By examining all five stages you can see and follow Claudette's path of evolution from a wolf to a human. At the end of stage 5, Claudette may not have fully and completely changed, but she is much further along than most certainly Mirabella. Claudette has become a fully changed and functioning girl in human society. As expected all the girls are running around and doing all sorts of things at stage 1. With it being the very first stage the girls are trying to learn everything and take everything in. “The nuns watched us from the corner of the bedroom, their tiny faces pinched with displeasure.” (p.225). Claudette having shoes on feet and mouth shut are showing that Claudette is starting to do human-like things instead of having wolf behavior. Claudette and all the rest of the pack are having human instinct from “Physically, we were all easily capable of clearing the low stone walls. Sister Josephine left the wooden gates wide open.”(p.230). Claudette and the pack are capable of an escape from the low walls and the gate left open. They are getting caught up in the bustle of adapting and are forgetting things “The brothers! We’d almost forgotten about them.”(p.238). Claudette is becoming human with many things that are clouding her mind and forgetting about things before they moved into St. Lucy’s. The boys were separated from the girls at the beginning and both groups have been having a lot of things thrown at them forcing them to forget things they knew before there transformation.
