Changes During Adulthood

...Adulthood adulthood, the period in the human lifespan in which full physical and intellectual maturity have been attained. Adulthood is commonly thought of as beginning at age 20 or 21 years. Middle age, commencing at about 40 years, is followed by old age at about 60 years. Physically, early and middle adulthood are marked by slow, gradual declines in body functioning, which accelerate as old age is reached. The muscle mass continues to increase through the mid-20s, thereafter gradually decreasing. The skeletal mass increases until age 30 or so, and then begins to decrease, first in the central skeleton (pelvis and spine) and last in the peripheral skeleton (fingers and toes). Throughout adulthood there is a progressive deposition of cholesterol in the arteries, and the heart muscle eventually grows weaker even in the absence of detectable disease. The production of both male and female hormones also diminishes with age, though this cannot be directly related to the gradual diminution in sexual activity that occurs in both males and females between 20 and 60. There is clear evidence that with increasing age adults display a slow, very gradual tendency toward decreasing speed of response in the execution of intellectual (and physical) tasks. Slowing rates of electrical activity in the older adult brain have been linked to the slowing of behaviour itself. This decline in the rate of central nervous system processing does not necessarily imply similar changes in learning, memory...

...Dear nutrition student, Thank you for inquiring about my RD/DTR study guide. And yes, there is no catch, the study guide is COMPLETELY FREE! All I ask for is some feedback. So feel free to shoot me any questions/comments! A little background: This study guide is the culmination of years of my own research. And after careful thought, I put into the study guide what I feel are the most important concepts you need to know for the RD/DTR exam. If you notice, I spent much time teaching you in detail the concepts you need to know, not just “spitting” you questions with little or no explanation. I believe this is important. I know you might be thinking “oh, how am I going to absorb and learn all this material?” I say, just read and answer the questions at your own pace. Simply test yourself and of course take some breaks along the way. Just take it one concept at a time. After you have mastered one concept, then move on to the next. I know if you study whole-heartedly what I have outlined in this study guide, you are sure to pass! GOOD LUCK! Sci 220 / Human Nutrition

...Team C Final Paper - Weight Watchers Bethany Deecken, Debbie Duncan, Lisa Ivey, Tina Rakes, Leandra Steele, Thomas Van Horn   SCI 220 / Human Nutrition   University of Phoenix   Weight Watchers Weight Watchers is one of the oldest diet programs in America. In the early 1960’s, their founder Jean Nidetch began inviting friends into her Queens home once a week to discuss how best to lose weight. Today, that group of friends has grown to millions of men and women around the world who use the services and products offered by Weight Watchers to lose their unwanted pounds. The program helps inform people about how to live a healthy and prosperous life by teaching them not only about physical fitness, but about mental and emotional fitness as well. Weight Watchers Philosophy According to Weight Watchers, their philosophy has always been that dieting is just one part of long term weight management. A healthy body results from a healthy lifestyle. This means being not only physically fit, but also mentally and emotionally fit as well. Weight Watchers provides information, tools and knowledge to help you make healthy decisions about eating. This program works by the philosophy that the person who wants to lose weight should eat whatever he/she likes without sacrificing any of their favorite foods, or missing any of their meals. According to Weight Watchers, if we do not eat for a long period of time, any of the unused food is stored for “emergency” use, where the body stores...

Stok Trak Anaylsis

...When first embarking on the Stocktrak site I must admit I had very little experience with investing of any real kind. I was an amateur and I thought it would be a fun way to learn a little bit about the market and myself in how I might approach looking at investing and the kind of approach I would take. From the start I took a rather conservative approach to the entire thing. I roughly made about one trade a week and even didn’t make a trade in a week at all. Granted in a market that’s down a bit to maximize my earnings that might not have been the best approaches as the market didn’t not vary a whole lot, at least for what I had invested in, but I will get to that later. As far as what I hoped to get as a rough expected return was about 5-10%. I was hoping to make some money within the game but also not expecting huge profits based on the current financial climate and the amount of trading and effort put in for my more conservative portfolio. That return I was hoping to realize in the 10-week holding period but looking at it now with a change in the climate in future months it might be more realizable in an annualized holding period. Some constraints that I took into consideration while doing this project are not very severe and don’t entail a whole lot. When I took this project on I didn’t particularly see the 10 weeks as the final see all. I did not go and put all 500,000 directly into the market even though I used most of it. It was more long term probably closer to a...

Nutrition

...Nutritional Needs Theresa Cooper SCI/220 (BSDF1ICOY4) 10/6/2015 University of Phoenix Nutritional Needs Nutrition is the major intrauterine environmental factor that alters expression of the fetal genome and may have lifelong consequences. This phenomenon, termed “fetal programming,” has led to the recent theory of “fetal origins of adult disease.” Namely, alterations in fetal nutrition and endocrine status may result in developmental adaptations that permanently change the structure, physiology, and metabolism of the offspring, thereby predisposing individuals to metabolic, endocrine, and cardiovascular diseases in adult life. Animal studies show that both maternal undernutrition and over nutrition reduce placental-fetal blood flows and stunt fetal growth. Impaired placental syntheses of nitric oxide (a major vasodilator and angiogenesis factor) and polyamines (key regulators of DNA and protein synthesis) may provide a unified explanation for intrauterine growth retardation in response to the 2 extremes of nutritional problems with the same pregnancy outcome. There is growing evidence that maternal nutritional status can alter the epigenetic state (stable alterations of gene expression through DNA methylation and histone modifications) of the fetal genome. This may provide a molecular mechanism for the impact of maternal nutrition on both fetal programming and genomic imprinting. Promoting optimal nutrition will not only ensure optimal fetal development, but will also...
