Cloud is actually expanding the role of information technology departments, Cisco-Intel survey finds.
Aug 20, 2013
McKendrick, Joe http://www.forbes.com We’ve been hearing about it for several years now: that IT departments will shrink or disperse as cloud computing takes hold in enterprises. A new survey, however, suggests that IT departments are actually expanding, and IT leaders are taking on elevated roles within businesses as a result of cloud.
The survey of 4,226 IT leaders across the globe, conducted by Cisco Consulting Services, in partnership with Intel, finds that while cloud adoption within enterprises is growing, now accounting for 23 percent of IT spending, and expected to rise to 27 percent over the next three years, there is no discernible reduction in on-premises IT taking place. In fact, a majority, 57%, see the size of IT increasing in terms of full-time IT headcount.
Rather than viewing IT as marginalized, 76 percent of respondents see IT as taking on a new role as a “broker,” or intermediary, of cloud services, orchestrating the planning and procurement process for lines-of-business (LOBs) across internal and external clouds while managing third-party complexity.
Much of the purchasing of IT services is shifting directly to business managers, but they still need and seek the guidance of their technology leaders to make sure their investments are going to the right places.
This is another company that is taking IT to a new level. Cloud, along with other major businesses, seems to be integrating IT into their companies more often in today’s business world. This will result in IT departments becoming smaller and eventually gone with all together in the near future. This seems to be a smart choice to cut costs, save money and increase

...Once upon a time, the people of North America all experienced the most peculiar July afternoon. It had started off a normal enough day: with wives drinking coffee and husbands reading newspapers; young children eating cereal and watching morning cartoons, while teenagers still sleeping in warm beds, with the stale smells of the previous night's party hanging in the air. All was normal and in order and as was to be expected. In the Midwest a farmer looked across his fields, with delight and anticipation. It hadn't rained in a day over a week and he thought to himself, they were due for a storm or at least a small cloud of liquid gold. In the Southwest, the city streets were all covered in a thin layer of dirty sand. The windows of buildings went unwashed throughout the dry summer months. The mayors of the towns long ago deciding not to waste the energy or time to clean off the dirt and sand which returned overnight, settling in the same cracks and surfaces as the previous day. Meteorologist couldn't explain the phenomena of a cross continental rain storm that was so quick moving and unexpected. Most people though, didn't want or need an explanation. For hours after the climax and thunder had ender, when all the streets and houses were clean and the deserts refreshed the rain remained as a thin mist all the way across the plains, fields, mountains, hills, deserts and coasts, catching each bit of light skewing the air into magnificent colors, no matter where the people...

Clouds

...Clouds We can see clouds in the sky; it is like the white cotton in the sky. It is a visible mass droplet or ice particle in the air and is caused by condensation. Precipitation occurs from clouds but not all precipitation is from all clouds, there is no precipitation without clouds. Clouds can absorb solar energy which means it helps to lessen the heat. Without clouds days would have been much warmer and nights much colder. Majority of clouds are found in troposphere. Clouds are composed of other substances such as methane, ammonia, and sulfuric acid. The different types of clouds are cumulus, stratus, cirrus, and nimbus. Cumulus clouds are a type of low-level cloud that can have noticeable vertical development and clearly defined edges. Cumulo means "heap" in Latin. They are often described as "puffy" or "cotton-like" in appearance, and are generally less than 6,500 feet (2,000 m) in altitude. Stratus is a cloud belonging to a class characterized by horizontal layering with a uniform base, as opposed to convective clouds that are as tall or taller than wide. Stratus is used to describe flat, hazy, featureless clouds of low altitude varying in color from dark gray to nearly white. Stratus clouds may produce a light drizzle or snow. A "cloudy day" usually features a sky filled with stratus clouds obscuring the disk of the sun. These clouds are essentially above-ground fog formed either through the lifting of morning fog or when cold air moves at low altitudes over a region...

...Clouds Jessica Pixley Weather and Climate Robert Morris University Clouds are an astonishing part of nature and help give us an idea of the current state of the weather. Clouds can vary dramatically in shape, size, color and position. Early in the nineteenth century French naturalist Jean-Baptitse Lamarck had started the first system to classify clouds which was polished by a naturalist named Luke Howard shortly after. Not until 1887 was Howards system finalized by Ralph Abercromby and Hugo Hildebrandson into the system we use today. This system entails four major cloud groups and ten basic types of clouds based on their appearance and position in the sky. The four groups are high clouds, middle clouds, low clouds, and clouds with vertical development. The first cloud in the high cloud group is the Cirrus cloud. Cirrus clouds are formed by the freezing of water droplets. They can be found normally above twenty thousand feet. These clouds generally appear white or light grey in color. Strong western winds blow these clouds into thin wispy strands known as “mares’ tails”. In my opinion, these clouds look like they are painted into the sky. When cirrus clouds are present expect a nice pleasant day ahead. The cirrocumulus is next in the high cloud group. These clouds generally are seen less than the cirrus cloud. These clouds are formed by ice crystals as well. They are also found above twenty thousand feet. If you hold you hand out and up at the sky these clouds will be...

Clouds and the Apology

...traditions, although in a way that argues against it which is irritating to some. He claims that without him the state is likely to enter into a “deep sleep” meaning that it would be forgotten. In Aristophanes’ Clouds, he treats Socrates crudely because its purpose is for Just Arguments whereas Socrates used Unjust Arguments. In The Apology, Socrates gives a speech defend himself and his conduct. He says that since he has no experience with the law courts he is going to talk in the manner he is most used to: honestly and directness. He explains that his conduct was because of the Delphic oracle who said that he was the wisest of all men. Knowing that he doesn’t know much of world affairs, he concluded that he is only wiser than other people only in that he knows nothing. To spread his wisdom he goes around to question “wise” men to expose their ignorance. Although he earned the admiration of young Athenians, hatred ensued from the people he embarrassed which would be the reason he was on trial. He says that he is merely a gadfly stinging a lazy horse which is the Athenian state. Claiming that without him Greek traditions would be forgotten and that through his interactions, even if it is irritating to some, it can be used to become a productive and virtuous action. In The Clouds, Aristophanes writes about a how a father, Strepsiades, worries over the financial issues due to his son’s, Pheidippides, financial spending. In order to outdo the creditors through an “Unjust” argument he...

Aristophanes Clouds

...Aristophanes’ Clouds presents its’ audience with more than just a brilliantly comedic performance, but a lesson about education as well. Although Socrates is one of the plays main characters, and one of the most prominent philosophers of all time, Aristophanes chooses to use the Chorus of Clouds as his primary tool in getting his messages about education across to the audience. The Clouds attempt to teach Strepsiades by pushing him to make mistakes that he will ultimately learn from. Strepsiades tells the Clouds that he wants to learn the inferior argument, to “twist justice around and escape the clutches of [his] creditors,” and although the Clouds know that this will bring unwanted consequences, nevertheless, they encourage Strepsiades to enroll in Socrates school. The Clouds want Strepsiades to learn through experience, not by simply being told what is right and what is wrong. If everything went according to the Clouds’ plan, Strepsiades would suffer the consequences of his wrongdoing and, in turn, never choose the wrong path again. Similar to the Clouds emotionally harsh method of teaching is the Superior Arguments physically harsh method of teaching. When the Clouds give both the Superior and Inferior Arguments the chance to communicate what they stand for, the Superior Argument speaks of a “damned good thrashing” for those boys who are not acting respectably. The Superior Argument is also more traditional in his ways, encouraging people to think of others before...

...Cloud Clients for Security and Compliance Proper data and endpoint security is a necessity in the financial services data environment. Cloud client solutions at end-points formerly occupied by PCs can increase data security, governance, and compliance through a centrally stored data base and managed infrastructure. Cloud clients can be configured to support the latest identity management and access control policies and best practices though the use of two-factor authentication. Cloud clients can also be centrally configured to restrict user access to specific resources, and access rights can be changed without having to service or modify the desktop in any way. By using cloud clients, end points and individual access can be completely locked down as needed by the IT administrator through centralized control of the virtual machines hosted by the servers. All of the data in a cloud client/virtual server computing environment resides on the servers themselves...not at the cloud client end-points. Data is prevented from leaving the premises on USB memory sticks, CDs, or other portable media, for example, since no data resides on the cloud client desktop device. Storing all data in centralized data centers greatly improves security and can also help ensure compliance with data privacy regulations as required under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and other federal and state regulations. Since all data resides in the data center, automatic information back-up can be deployed...

The cloud is in huge transformation in the business industry that increases the compute capacity and networking capacities. The computer industry is growing in an up-to-date fashion and therefore, cloud computation is the latest fashion that is changing rapidly and it is very difficult to understand cloud and its different offers or services in the corporation world. As Andrew McAfee has focused three important services, which cloud provides. These services are divided into three categories such as: 1. Infrastructure as a service: The IAAS is the most basic service and its users are technology companies and use it as a server in the cloud. These tech companies are expert in computing in this IAAS system. They are very expert in using this service, but not well prepared to install or maintain it. 2. Platform as a service: This is another basic service used in the cloud platform, which the companies use to develop the software for its existing customers with customization of its customers. In this service, various programming languages are used to develop a software such as; Java, .NET, Python etc. that help in writing the codes in a small time period and allow the customers to cover transaction. 3. Software as a service: It is most the important service, which is used solely by the cloud itself without using any hardware or software in the data center. ...CLOUD BACKUP PROBLEMS Surya Kiran SEC 6060 Wilmington University Cloud Computing is one of the real region for information backup, and there are few concerns like the information security and protection issues which are the introductory issues with the cloud. But, a major concern in the area of cloud is its storage and backup ability. The cloud offers enormous flexibility to backup data instantly over an internet connection to a local/remote server, enabling a person to store GBs and TBs of data. The advantage is the when there is any natural calamity or incidence where physical drives may be damaged, data saved in could be accessed without any/few limitations. Some problems that could be considered while backing up the cloud data can be fertilizing the hard disks and moving the application data to the cloud. Growing reputation for the cloud and its cheap service availability is making it vital, for example Dropbox, which can be accessed both from desktop and mobile. Cloud backup is more advantageous for companies located in different geographical locations. The main problem in cloud storage is faced by the cloud hosting company, its hardware and cost per service. There are three types of clouds, namely public, private and hybrid (Vance, (2014)). Each of these has restrictions and advantages. A public cloud provides users with less privileges to access the hardware and features of cloud, except the storage, whereas in a private cloud the customer is allowed to select...

...What is The Cloud? Heather INF103 May 10, 2012 What is the Cloud? ………………………………………………………………………… Examples of these applications are Gmail, Google Docs, and Facebook. You are using the cloud anytime you store information, pictures, or music anywhere on the web. Cloud computing is taking a lot of computers and putting them together into a pool of resources. It is a key way companies are streamlining their operations. Cloud computing is still early in its development Collaborating to Compete (2010). The cloud is a less expensive, less time consuming, and more user-friendly way to store data, store software and collaborate. Cloud technology is stream-lining the way we use computers and the internet. Techs biggest names are offering cloud services and new companies are starting every day. To fully understand all that the cloud offers, let’s take a look back and see how information was stored, software was consumed, and teams collaborated. Data storage has moved from file cabinets, to mainframes, to PCs, now to servers, and increasingly these servers are in the cloud. -Paul Otellini CEO of Intel Collaborating to Complete (2010). Paper files we kept in a filing cabinet. Then computers came along and data entry clerks began storing records on a mainframe. Then desktops had more memory so we used it. To make the memory on the desktops last longer we stored information on floppy disks then compact disks. Administrative assistants would be charged with organizing these records...

...type of cloud computing. There is an infrastructure as a service, a platform as a service and lastly is the software as a Service. (Miller Ron, 2011) These three kinds of clouds support different demands that business and organizations have. The infrastructure as a service is more for storage and expanding. For the biggest business that consumes infrastructure as a service is Verizon. Verizon uses this for holding data of phones and contracts, they are always growing and always on the move. The platform as a service is lined to a particular vendor. I have found out that the biggest company on platform as a service would be force.com. Force.com is affiliated with salesforce.com. Force.com helps build and send out applications for devices such as iphone, android, etc. Lastly, the Software as a service is used by Gmail.com and services of this nature. The reason why Gmail.com utilizes this type of cloud computing is because people always need to look at emails, and emails are only viewed online. The purpose is this, the software that is used for writing and viewing emails is compatible for all devices. It is made this way because everyone will have computer on them at all time, so you can use your cell phone or ipod touch to access the internet through wifi and look at your emails. In my opinion, cloud computing will give employers extra business value over a long period of time. Cloud computing can be very fast and simple to get up and running. An example of fast cloud computing...

Cloud Seeding

...Running head: Cloud Seeding Negligibility of Cloud Seeding Don Jackson Angelo State University November 13, 2012 Cloud Seeding How is there a water shortage, if there is no water leaving earth? Foremost, accessible freshwater accounts for a very small amount of the earth's water. Ninety-seven percent of all water is salt water and most of the remaining three percent is locked in polar ice caps, glaciers, and deep underground aquifers (McCaffrey, 2000). The problems arising from a shortage of freshwater are beyond human and crop needs. Significant percentages of power in numerous countries are provided by hydroelectric turbines, efficiency of a cloud seeding operation will continue to be negligible because scientists cannot know exactly what rainfall would or would not have occurred but for their efforts. Clouds and precipitation are paramount meteorological processes in the general public's concept of “weather” (Lin, Wang, Schlesinger). Since the mid-1940s, countries have used cloud seeding to attempt to control the rain. As would be expected, these programs have met with mixed responses. The world is on the brink of a water crisis, due to expanding populations, evident climate change, and pollution causing much of the existing freshwater unusable, the demand for freshwater has never been more immense. Presently, cloud seeding operations have been successfully conducted by about 40 countries during different periods during the last 50 years. Even though cloud seeding is...
