Club IT, part one A newly remodeled nightclub is set to open up in town! Owners of Club IT, Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada, are proud of the remodeled interior of their nightclub. They are also looking to remodel their information management plan and have hired Learning Team A as interns to help them with their remodel. The subject of this paper is to give an overview of Club IT’s mission statement, an overview of Club IT’s information resources, as well as to identify a strategy for Club IT to gain competitive advantage over other nightclubs in the area.
Mission statement Club IT is a nightclub that offers different types of music to entertain all guests who want a friendly and luxurious place to mingle and meet new friends. Both owners come from an education in Business Administration and share a love for music. Ruben and Lisa devote themselves to providing an entertainment facility for all to enjoy. The nightclub will provide food and refreshments along with music and a dance floor for people who enjoy dancing. Ruben and Lisa’s mission is to entertain every guest that walks in the door. From hip-hop to rock and roll, Ruben and Lisa are sure to please everyone. Because the nightclub industry is competitive, Ruben and Lisa must think of ways to make their club stand out. Their first approach to making this happen is to remodel. Vaulted ceilings will allow more lighting which will enhance the look of the club. Since Ruben and Lisa are striving to please everybody, every night there will be a different live band playing except on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday there will be a DJ.

Information resources

The IT department’s main goal at Club IT is to help the new club run smoothly and successfully. To do so, the IT experts are in charge of putting together the most effective forms of electronic communication from the resources available for communication purposes such as, telephone calls, conference calls, network drives, e-mail services, and intranet usage. The IT department can help determine all the available resources and vendors best suited for the company and its needs. With the help of the IT department the club will be able to keep better track of what food supplies need to be ordered and when, for the appetizers served. The club will also be able to keep track of the types of all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages needed and quantity of each. Club IT also offers merchandise for purchase such as, t-shirts, baseball caps, mugs, and shot glasses, which also need to be inventoried. Because running a business can be a very stressful job, by having an IT department will take a load off of Ruben and Lisa by providing a system to keep track of things such as employee time-sheets, booking live bands and DJs, supply inventory: food, drinks, company merchandise, and other supplies, and keeping all employees informed via intranet services and other communication methods. Competitive advantage

The Rainer and Turban text outlines five different strategies firms can use to gain competitive advantage: cost leadership, differentiation, innovation, operational effectiveness, and customer-orientation. Club IT can benefit from using the customer-orientation strategy. The customer-orientation strategy concentrates on making and keeping customers happy (Rainer & Turban, 2008). Owners Ruben and Lisa desire their nightclub to be focused on bringing in clientele with a variety of music and dance tastes. By keeping Club IT’s wide client base satisfied and smiling, the nightclub will gain a competitive advantage over other nightclubs that only offer one or two types of music and dance. To gain competitive advantage via the customer-orientation strategy, Ruben and Lisa must interact with their clients and discover what they like. The owners can put on events where customers can choose the music a DJ plays by accepting requests, or they can poll their clients for which live bands they want to see. By keeping the customers semi-involved in the music choosing process, they will gain competitive advantage over other nightclubs that do not offer choice in music. Club IT can incorporate this customer-orientation strategy into the food and drink side of the business as well. By inquiring to its customers what menu items are liked and disliked, Club IT can make adjustments according to the preferences of the club-goers. Club IT owners know their customers love to dance, so they remodeled the dance floor to be 600 square feet. Because Club IT has one of the largest dance floors in town, customers do not feel crowded when dancing. This keeps club-goers coming back to Club IT and keeps the club’s competitive advantage.

Conclusion

Club IT has two very dedicated owners and a team of interns from Learning Team A that are devoted to restructuring the nightclub’s information management plan and making Club IT the best nightclub around. Much work still has to be done in remodeling the business and information end of the club, but all the hard work will pay off when Club IT is the most desired meeting place in town. This paper has explained Club IT’s mission, information resources, and a strategy for gaining competitive advantage over other nightclubs in the area.
