Clubfoot also known as talipes equinovarus, is a congenital deformity of the foot. It occurs when the foot is twisted out of the normal position at a sharp angle similar to the head of a golf club. The heel appears inward increasing the arch and the top of the foot twists downward and inward. It can involve one or both feet, and abnormalities can range from mild to severe. The cause of clubfoot is unknown but studies have shown that smoking while pregnant, having a family history of clubfoot, environmental factors, genetics, and the position of the baby in the womb, all play roles with the cause of clubfoot.
