A. General Comments
I conducted my observation at the CSUN Child and Family Studies Center on April 13, 2018 from 2:40 until 4:50 PM. When I arrived for the observation, the children were playing outside in several different areas. There were approximately 50 students between the ages of about 3 or 4 with about 8-10 teachers. There were a lot of children because it was their outdoor play time for two other classes. I spent time sitting by the sandbox, climbing structure, and swings. They were outside for about an hour before the classes split up for their own activities. I then observed a classroom setting for an hour with 4 teachers and about 10-12 children. There is a room with a one way window in which I can see the children and teachers …show more content…
I noticed a lot of children that appeared to developing typically. For example, I observed children playing in the sand box, practicing their fine motor skills. They shoveled sand into buckets, shaped sand into shapes and homes, and played with the sand in their fingers. With the same group of children playing with sand, there was a child who watched but showed no interest in the idea of playing with sand. While continuing to observe the child, I did notice that they shied away from find motor activities like playing with balls and playing with sand but did show interest in playing tag, running, and riding a tricycle. The teacher leading the circle went around and asked each student how they were feeling. The students usually said, “I am happy” and acted out the face they make when happy. This leads me to think that the students are self-aware and able to recognize the emotions they feel. Temperaments appear quite stable from birth and are characteristics that are neither good nor bad but how the child receives them determines whether the child perceives them as such. The approval of this drug marked a new era in evolution of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder treatments. After decades of criticism on the rampant abuse and alleged overprescribing of amphetamine ADHD medications New River Pharmaceuticals responded by developing lisdexamfetamine, a compound that is inactive until converted to dextroamphetamine by the gastrointestinal tract. This means that Vyvanse is only effective when taken orally, reducing the potential for abuse. Moreover, that Vyvanse lasts much longer than typical amphetamine ADHD medications. One administration of the drug lasts throughout an entire day. Although this drug removes a few issues pertaining to amphetamine treatment of ADHD, there has been questioning as to its efficacy in treating the full range of symptoms caused by ADHD because it is broken down into dextroamphetamine alone instead of a combination of amphetamines such as Adderall.
