The story begins with Brother and Sister Bear sitting at home, bored and claiming there is nothing to do. Sister Bear has come up with many great ideas to pass the time, but Brother doesn’t like any of her ideas. Bothered by this she starts teasing him about being in love with the soccer ball. Infuriated, he dares her to stop him from dribbling the ball past her. As with anytime anyone plays soccer in the house something bad is bound to happen! This time their Mama’s favorite lamp gets broken. When Mama gets home, the cubs blame the broken lamp on a bird. In describing the bird the children come up with an elaborate description. After Papa bear came home the cubs then told him the story, but this time some of the details had changed. Neither parent was fooled about the children’s story. Mama Bear explains to the cubs that the lamp can be put back together, but was very sad and disappointed that her children were lying to her and that trust cannot be repaired as easily. At this point both cubs feel bad and start taking the blame for their parts in the lamp being broken. This is the last time the cubs tell a “whopper” story. They still slip up and break the rules, but they have learned their lesson and never lie again. The cubs come to learn that they should always tell the truth, because, as the book says, “trust is one thing you can’t put back together once it’s broken.” (Jan Berenstain, 1983) There are so many ways to implement this story into our classrooms. I cannot help but think of creativity in regards to this story. With that being said I like the idea of creating a collage expressing and/ or representing what honesty means, feels, sounds and looks like to them. To help scaffold this lesson I would allow the use any medium or a combination of materials including: pencils, pens, pastels, crayon, cutout pictures and paste, to illustrate the theme of honesty. I feel that kids are not allowed to use creativity as often as they should within our schools today and this would just be one more way for them to use their creativity to define their understanding of this virtue. Afterwards I would love to display the student’s posters in the hallways, showcasing them for the rest of the school!

...“Friday Night lights Movie Review” Everyone has to go out and see “Friday Night Lights”, this movie is based on the book “Friday Night Lights: A town, a team, and a dream.” The book was published by H.G. Besieger. The movie takes place in a small town in Texas called Odessa. Throughout the movie they follow the high school football team known as the Permian Panthers coached by Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton), who already has high expectations from the people of Odessa.
