Coal workers’ pneumoconiosis disease is a type of pneumoconiosis. According to CDC, "pneumoconioses are a group of interstitial lung diseases caused by the inhalation of certain dusts and the lung tissue’s reaction to the dust" (Unknown, 2012). Coal worker's pneumoconiosis(CWP) is one of the common pneumoconioses diseases. CWP is not ethical, sexual, racial, or nutritional related. Instead it is environmental related. This type of pneumoconiosis can happen to anyone, it all depends on how long and how severe the exposure to coal dust is. How is CWP diagnosed?

Different signs and symptoms of CWP include, cough, chest pain, breathlessness, impaired lung function, difficulty breathing, and progressive lung stiffening. There is only one true way to tell if someone has CWP and that is a chest X-ray and pulmonary function testing to see the lungs. These diagnostic studies found that once CWP was diagnosed it was too late to treat. This was due to no early signs. Instead of treating it there were ways that came to prevent it. Due to it being left untreated causes complications like lung cancer, respiratory and heart failure, …show more content…
It starts out with inhaling the severe amounts of coal dust. After the coal dust is inhaled it then reaches the terminal bronchioles. At this point the interstitial macrophages and the alveolar engulf the carbon. After that macrophages transport the coal dust, so that it can be let out in either the mucus or through the lymphatic system. Farhan J Khan, found that, "When this system becomes overwhelmed, the dust-laden macrophages accumulate in the alveoli and may trigger an immune response,"(2015). The main stamp of histology for CWP is coal macules. These are the main areas of focal deposition of coal dust and pigment-laden macrophages. Coal macules then join together and form areas of emphysema. These areas then continue to grow causing CWP, and the impairments that come with

Pneumoconiosis

...Cantu RSPT 2310 Mr. Ramos 3/4/14 Pneumoconiosis Pneumoconiosis can be interpreted as the accumulation of dust in the lungs and the tissue’s reaction to its habitation. It is considered to be an occupational lung disease caused by the long-term exposure to dust. There are several interstitial lung diseases caused by the inhalation of certain dusts. The primary cause of the pneumoconioses is work-place exposure; environmental exposures rarely give rise to these diseases. Pneumoconiosis refers to a range of diseases that are caused by the inhalation of a range of organic and non-organic dusts which are then retained in the lungs. The main types of pneumoconiosis are: Asbestosis, Berylliosis , Byssinosis, Coal Worker’s Pneumoconiosis (also known as “black lung”), Kaolin Pneumoconiosis, Siderosis, and Silicosis. The most common type of pneumoconiosis is Coal Worker’s Pneumoconiosis (CWP). The Black lung is actually a set of conditions and it wasn’t till the 1950s that its dangers were not well understood. There are currently about 130,000 underground coal miners that are currently working in the United States. Mining and the production of coal is a large part of the economy in several developed countries therefore, leaving thousands of American miners dead from CWP. Even though this disease is preventable by using the appropriate safety equipment, there are still many miners that end up developing advanced and severe cases of the disease. The coal dust itself is not as fibrogenic...

He coughed all the time and sometimes he could not breathe at all. After a few years, Lao Huang died from the disease for not getting any single fresh air.
