It explores seven themes: the meaning and context of plagiarism, the nature of plagiarism by students, how do students perceive plagiarism, how big a problem is student plagiarism, why do students cheat, what challenges are posed by digital plagiarism and is there a need to promote academic integrity? It is concluded that plagiarism is doubtless common and getting more so (particularly with increased access to digital sources, including the Internet), that there are multiple reasons why students plagiarise and that students often rationalise their cheating behaviour and downplay the importance of plagiarism by themselves and their peers. It is also concluded that there is a growing need for UK institutions to develop cohesive frameworks for dealing with student plagiarism that are based on prevention supported by robust detection and penalty systems that are transparent and applied consistently. This paper examines how India’s top 500 companies view, and conduct their CSR, identifies key CSR practices and maps these against Global Reporting Initiative standards. Design/methodology/approach -It is a cross sectional study which is exploratory in nature. It involved secondary data collection and use of content analysis technique to assess CSR practices of companies operating in India. Findings -The main findings of the study are that CSR is now presented as a comprehensive business strategy, arising mainly from performance considerations and stakeholder pressure. Companies consider their interaction with stakeholders and impact of its business on society as significant issues. CSR policies vary with turnover and profit. Statistical databases have some special characteristics and requirements that are not supported by existing commercial database management systems. For example, while basic aggregation operations like SUM and AVG are part of SQL, there is no support for other commonly used operations like variance and co-variance. Such computations, as well as more advanced ones like regression and principal component analysis, are usually performed using statistical packages and libraries, such as SAS [1] and SPSS [2]. From the end user’s perspective, whether the statistical calculations are being performed in the database or in a statistical package can be quite transparent, especially from a functionality viewpoint. Company executives and the Ford family realized the importance of Henry Ford and his company in the development and progress of the twentieth century. Researchers and policy makers, looking for an objective definition of SMBs, have used a variety of criteria including total assets, total employees and net worth (Cochran, 1981). There have been various definitions given to small and medium businesses in Ghana but the most commonly used criterion is the number of employees of the enterprise. In defining small and medium businesses in Ghana (Osei et al 1993) classified SMBs into three categories. There are micro-employing less than 6 people, medium-employing 6-9 people and small businesses-between 10 and 29 employees. In terms of activities they are mostly engaged in retailing, trading or manufacturing and education.
