...Coco-Cola Vintage Ad Elizabeth Hamilton Professor Smith Devry University March 28, 2014 Coco-Cola Vintage Ad Throughout its history Coco-Cola has always managed to use advertising as a powerful tool to create that special atmosphere in the minds of consumers that differentiates Coco-Cola from just some generic cola. In the past it was also extremely effective in advertising its product gaining a lot of market share and getting to the top of the market in terms of sales. The essay analyzes a vintage advertisement according to the rhetorical appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos and notes that Coco-Cola effectively uses appeals to authority, logic and emotions to make Coke a lifestyle, not just a drink. The vintage ad analyzed in the essay is a print ad that features the title Coco-Cola and the following text “Is a delightful palatable healthful beverage. It relives fatigue and is indispensable for business and professional men, students, wheelmen, athletes. It relieves mental and physical exhaustion. Is the favorite drink for ladies when thirsty, weary, despondent… Sold in bottles and at soda fountains for 5 cents. Newest refreshing drink in the world”. Clearly, the ad has many claims that nowadays would be consider illegal, inappropriate and simply false, yet back in the days, it was an example of what marketing was about : selling it at all cost even if it meant lying to the consumers. Although, to be fair, many other things, like heroine, morphine, cocaine and LSD were...

...The Coca-Cola Company is a multinational company and is one of the biggest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of non-alcoholic beverages in the world. The company operates in more than 200 countries and offers more than 500 brands. Coca-Cola was established in 1886 when an Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John S. Pemberton started to produce Coca-Cola syrup for soft drink that could be sold at soda fountains. In 1891 the business was sold with its secret formula for coke syrup to Asa Candler, who improved the original formula by removing the cocaine and dominated the market of carbonated soft drinks. In 1889 the company only produced syrup concentrate which was then sold to various bottlers throughout the world. The Coca-Cola Company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia (coca-colacompany.com, 2014). Coca-Cola’s marketing and financial success was ran by bureaucrats who tried to create an image of their brand more than to give to customers what they wanted. M. Douglas Ivester, who was the CEO of the company in 1997, was focusing more on the numbers and revenues than on what was really going inside the company. He was described as arrogant and insecure. In an attempt to boost profits he increased the price for Coke syrup sales to bottlers. At the time the company was going through one of the largest product recall in their history. The company was also faced with a lawsuit accusing Coca-Cola of discrimination against black employees in promotions, evaluations, terminations, and pay...

...Strategy-Enviroment Fit The Coca-Cola Co. The biggest multinational beverage company Coca-Cola was born in 1892 by Asa Griggs Candler in Georgia. Today The Coca-Cola company is selling more than 400 brands in 200 countries and 94% of the world population knows or heard about the Coca-Cola company by their product Coca-Cola, Coke, Cola or Coca etc., possibly it is the most recognized carbonated beverage company in the world (Sivny 2007). According to Journal of American Business review, what makes the Coca-Cola Company successful in the global food industry is their strong global strategy that based on four powerful strategic foundations: labor and management strategy, collaborative, marketing and differentiation strategy (2013). When companies start to operate internationally they have to decide how to staff their facilities by choosing from three frameworks that covers international employment: ethnocentric, polycentric and geocentric staffing approaches. One of the key to success of the Coca-Cola Company is implementing the geocentric approach to their staffing strategy, which is choosing the best mixture of home, host-country and third party managers to manage the operation. According to Statista, statistic shows that the number of employees of the Coca-Cola company worldwide is 130.6 thousand in 2013 (2013). One of the Coca-Cola’s mission towards their employees is to create a better working place, and inspire their employees with the best working environment...

...available, which forms high competition amongst existing players and drives down the potential profit due to price wars.1 Due to such environmental factors, Coke has distinctively chosen to streamline their spending to the areas of marketing and advertising, a primary business activity, in order to create value. By creating a recognized brand image and leveraging their secret recipe, Coke has become a product differentiator in which other companies cannot easily replicate. This is further evidenced through a DuPont analysis (see Exhibit 1), which indicates a growing profit margin (an indicator of product differentiation) despite a decreasing asset turnover. IT Strategy At Coke, there has been a recent shift in IT strategy that places information technology at the forefront of their business. The CIO has changed his attitude to become a “revenue-generating CIO” (“Driving the top line with technology,” n.d.), more driven towards making decisions based on how IT will transform the industry in order to increase performance of the company. Thus, Coke can be placed in the Strategic quadrant of Mcfarlen’s grid. In July 2010, the company began implementing a new Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) system to enhance its supply chain processes (“Things Go Better With Coke’s Supply Chain,” n.d.). It identified problems such as its new ventures and bottling partners having inconsistent reporting regulations, and ultimately inconsistent calculation of metrics1. Also, even when the...

...Running head: Common Process! 1 What to Wear! jimmy jam Comm. 340 Andrea Roberson August 29, 2011 Common Process! 2 What to Wear! In the world today, people take for granted the little things. We all are so caught up on paying bills, finding a new job, or finding a sport for the kids to play. We never sit back and look at the small common things that we do in our everyday life. These small things help us get ready and get through our day. One small thing is the daily routines that we do. In this paper, I will discuss the daily routine of finding what to wear. Finding what to wear is something that affects all of us. I will explain my logic when it comes to this particular matter. Finding what to wear for that is a big deal for me! I work two jobs on a daily basis, so I actually go through this process twice. On my first job, I'm a supervisor for a residential treatment facility. Here we counsel children who are sexual abuse victims and offenders. Although, there is no strict dress code, it’s kind of known to be in business casual attire. By that being said, I know I shouldn’t wear any jerseys, shorts, or sneakers. So at night when I’m preparing myself for the next day, I automatically go to my polo style shirts. I then think about the activities that we have planned...

...We can do no great things, only small things with great love Culminating Activity By: Katelyn Cronkwright Mrs. Tatlock January 17th 2011 I’ll be Seeing you is a very inspirational novel that makes you realize how much in life people worry about their appearances. Shows how if you are not perfect, most popular, prettiest, how we can possibly be judged about it or made fun of. It was a HUGE eye opener on reality about how teenage girls act and think. How selfish people act to please their self, think only about our personal feelings forgetting about others and how they feel. This book is a real ca eye catcher by the cover and just by reading the summary about it. An individual’s ability to bring change in another person is an amazing thing. Just too even say their name or smile at them might just make their day. Throughout this book shows how you can change someone well at least try. “The purpose of life is not to be happy- but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all - leo rosten” The quote shows and resembles Kyle from the book. Trying his hardest to try and change Carley’s mind about her looks. That it did not matter that she had an ugly scare on her face just what was on the inside. Most important her personality and how she acted towards Kyle. Throughout Kyle kept telling her that to him she was beautiful, that it did not matter that she had that on her face, just that in his mind she was the most beautiful...

...Life Styles Inventory (LSI) Self-Description Suggs MGMT-591-20612 (Leadership & Org. Behavior) January 15, 2015 The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) survey was something that helped me somewhat understand more about myself than I knew before. It also was helpful with confirming other characteristics about myself that I already knew and had knowledge of. After taking the Life Style Inventory survey, I noticed that I scored relatively high in the following areas: Perfectionist, Power, and Competitive. These three were my top out of the 12 categories or characteristics from the LSI survey. I would agree with two of the following, in which the competitive style kind of surprised me. Then again, thinking about the types of decisions and situation that I’ve come across, those three things actually play a big part in how I deal with different things. When it comes down to situations that involve work or even my social life, I have the tendency to show each one of those styles in some way, shape, or form. Within society, those three styles, in my opinion, are needed in order to survive this “cold” world that we live in. If you are strong willed, you will succeed, but if you are weak minded, you might crumble beneath the pressure of society and the beings that live in it. Perfectionist, Power, and Competitiveness are things that play a key role within the aspect of my life and everyday situations. I’ve always been the strong willed being, which always strive for success regardless...

...Selena Alvarez EAES-107-07 Dr. D U. Ophori November 21, 2015 Current Event: “Do They Really Care?” In the article, “How Billionaires Gates, Bezos and Zuckerberg Could Boost Clean Energy” from the National Geographic News, these famous billionaires decide to step up to the plate and make a difference in the world. As I scrolled through different environmental issues happening, I decided to pick something positive. Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg known for the famous Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook join together to save the environment’s energy. These investors plan to get clean-energy ideas out of the lab such as delivery drones, advanced nuclear reactors, and solar paint. Gates has given $2 billion for the next five years for this project. The drones where recently revealed by Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos. It is nice to see those with great wealth to try to help out those in need and the environment. Now that technology is advancing our environment might be getting worse and worse. It is quite ironic how the people that brought us these famous technology websites are the ones helping out. When you think of the whole picture, these investors are willing to bring more technology into the world that might help the environment or maybe it is what can destroy us. If you think this generation is obsessed with technology imagine how obsessed they will be when it completely takes over what we have left in nature. After taking this class, my eyes opened to how ungrateful...

...Header: THE ROLE OF LEISURE IN AGING 1 The Role of Leisure in Aging Cassandra Pugh Canadore College THE ROLE OF LEISURE IN AGING 2 Age is both an observable and a universal demographic; a country like Canada is facing this issue. Canada’s population has aged steadily throughout the 20th century, and it is only expected to rise. Consequently, how to take care of the aging people is a critical issue, especially in leisure. Leisure is important for people of all ages, but is especially so for the elderly since they are likely to retire and have more time to engage in leisure activities. The following is an explanation of participation patterns between three seniors, identifying their roles in leisure now, and in adulthood, in these four categories: education, travel, volunteering, fitness and sport. The first interviewee is an 86 year old male from a nursing home. He and his wife have resided in the home for five years. In adulthood, Lloyd was very active. Although he was raised during the depression, having little money, there were always things to do. Whether that be working on the farm, having a game of ball hockey out on the road, or hunting. Lloyd was always doing something. He enjoyed leisure activities whenever he wasn’t working, which was sometimes hard working seven days a week. Especially the walk, 6 miles one way. But Lloyd always seemed to find time for his lady to take her square dancing, and bowling. Lloyd also enjoyed snowmobiling in...

...#1. Stop spending time with the wrong people. – Life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you. If someone wants you in their life, they’ll make room for you. You shouldn’t have to fight for a spot. Never, ever insist yourself to someone who continuously overlooks your worth. And remember, it’s not the people that stand by your side when you’re at your best, but the ones who stand beside you when you’re at your worst that are your true friends. pongboy #2. Stop running from your problems. – Face them head on. No, it won’t be easy. There is no person in the world capable of flawlessly handling every punch thrown at them. We aren’t supposed to be able to instantly solve problems. That’s not how we’re made. In fact, we’re made to get upset, sad, hurt, stumble and fall. Because that’s the whole purpose of living – to face problems, learn, adapt, and solve them over the course of time. This is what ultimately molds us into the person we become. #3. Stop lying to yourself. – You can lie to anyone else in the world, but you can’t lie to yourself. Our lives improve only when we take chances, and the first and most difficult chance we can take is to be honest with ourselves. aberrantbeauty.tumblr.com #4. ...“Most human beings have an absolute and infinite capacity for taking things for granted.” (Aldous Huxley) Young adults take things for granted: basic things, simple things, everything. Wasting food, not realizing what freedom means, not valuing education, and using up any readily available resources, has become a part of the daily routine without anyone realizing it. A rising problem amongst our age bracket today is young adults take what they have for granted, not realizing the long term consequences of their actions. How often does one finish everything that is on his/her plate? Many consumers often order more than they can eat. One’s eyes are bigger than his/her stomach. People will order multiple appetizing items from menus assuming they can finish it. On the contrary, they will eat about half of what is served, leaving the rest behind. Frequently, restaurants serve larger portions than the average person can eat. The American attitude is wanting beyond what is needed, the “Super-Size effect.” If one were to take into consideration the amount of food that is wasted in this country versus the amount that is needed throughout the rest of the world, anyone with a right mind set can see that Americans waste food. In contrast, there are starving masses in other parts of the world such as in numerous third world countries. There are people dying from starvation and lack of nutrients because of the absence of a sufficient food source, while contemporary Americans are...

...Dear Sandra, This year seems so long as I look at it on this first week of school. However, I know that it will pass very quickly as it fills with so many activities. There are many things that I hope to accomplish by May, and I believe that with hard work and effort I can make sure that this year is a success. Even though I have taught school for nineteen years, I want to keep an excitement and newness to what I do in the classroom. Instead of settling by doing the same things that are easy to prepare for, I hope to add some new instructional practices and lessons that will freshen up my social studies units. It will be important that I take time to look at the past lessons that I have used and keep the good and revise the weak parts. I need to be brave enough to step out of my comfort zone and try some things that go beyond what I have normally done in the past. It will also be beneficial for me to talk to other teachers and spend time researching creative lesson ideas. Being a mother and wife take up a large part of my waking hours. Even though I try extremely hard to be the best mom and wife, I want to work on two specific areas. So many times I lose my patience with Brennan and Addie, and I know as soon as it happens that I should have handled it differently. I often forget that they are still learning and growing and instead expect them to do things like adults would, especially me. It is my dream that they will grow up to be successful, productive and happy...

...Live Life to the Fullest Albert Einstein says, "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow." Albert Einstein was one of the greatest scientists, who ever lived; later on in his life he also became a philosopher, who gave inspirational quotes to the world. This quotation has personal meaning in it to me. The things I have been through in my life have brought me to where I am today and make me have hope for a better future. My thoughts are if more people lived by this quotation that there would be less chaos in the world. I agree with Albert Einstein and I will share my own perspective and personal experiences for the reasons that I agree with this quote so much. First “Learn from yesterday,” second “Live for today,” and finally “Hope for tomorrow.” “Learn from yesterday” can be perceived in so many different ways, whether a person learns from their own experiences or that of others. People are always trying to make things bigger and better than they were before, and that can all be done by learning from the past. The major experience I have learned from is going to prison and not ever wanting to repeat that journey. Some of the things I really missed like taking a hot bubble bath, watching whatever I felt like on television, eating when and what I wanted, sleeping all day, and the hugs and kisses from my daughter. Although it has made me wiser in the choices I make in my future, it is a time that I surely do not want to repeat. Not everything learned from yesterday...

...After unfortunate events, Mersault, the main character of Albert Camus’ novel The Stranger ends up shooting an Arab man. This leads to him being arrested and spending most of his next summer in a prison cell. Throughout the book Mersault has always been a rather individual character, who doesn’t care a lot about the people surrounding him and doesn’t have a deeply platonic relationship with anyone. He has friends and people around him, but doesn’t really care a lot about his appearance to them or his responsibilities or consequences. In the beginning of the book Mersault’s mother dies of old age, and he is judged for not talking care of her and rather putting her in a nursing home, and furthermore, not knowing her exact age. This however, only comes out later, when he is being prosecuted for murdering the Arab man, when it turns out, that instead of being the observer, Mersault is now the one being observed. He changed after his time in prison by losing his sense of empowerment and being unable to live in the moment and not thing about his future, this lets him realize that he is no longer the observer but rather the one being observed and judged by society. Throughout the whole book Mersault has always been portrayed as the observer of society. The man, who silently sits on his balcony, having a smoke, and watches the pedestrians walk through their life. But after being imprisoned, Mersault doesn’t feel his sense of empowerment anymore due to being in prison and forgetting how...
