...Coconut Oil: Why it is Good For You In this article, fats and oils are used interchangeably but in a strict sense, oil usually means liquid at room temperature and fat usually means solid at room temperature. However, coconut oil is solid at temperatures under 76 degrees F. So if you live at temperatures of 76 degrees F or more, coconut oil is liquid; if less than 76 degrees F, coconut oil is a fat. Saturated fat – one that has a small degree of unsaturation or double bonds and tends to be more solid at room temperatures lower than 76 degrees F. Example: butter, coconut oil. Monounsaturated oil – Contains some saturated fat but is largely oleic acid, a mono-unsaturated oil, which contains only one double bond. Example: Olive oil. Polyunsaturated oils – poly means many, so this means that the fat has more than one double bond. Example: linoleic (omega-6) acid has two double bonds; alpha-linolenic (omega-3) acid has three double bonds; arachidonic acid has four double bonds. The following information comes from the research of Ray Peat, Ph.D. and Mary G. Enig, Ph.D. References are given where applicable. I recommend only three types of fats to my clients: extra virgin olive oil, organic or, preferably raw butter, and organic coconut oil. Most people understand the first two but cringe at the thought of eating coconut oil. Here’s why I recommend coconut oil to everyone. Coconut oil has been used as cooking oil for thousands of years. Popular cookbooks advertised...

...distilled water, isocrophyl alcohol, coconut oil and an unknown liquid sample. The percentage error ranged below 5.00% for all sample except for coconut oil. We are also able to identify the unknown liquid sample to be kerosene as we compared it with its actual density value. For solid samples, a wood block, pebbles and a marble was examined. The density results were found to be 0.69 g/cm3, 0.53 g/cm3, and 14.21 g/cm3 respectively. Everything that let the overall results to be accurate and precision were the accuracy of the measurements of the samples. INTRODUCTION Density is an intrinsic property which means it doesn’t depends on the amount of a substance. It is defined as the amount of matter (usually as mass) occupying a unit volume. Density is commonly expressed in g/ml for liquids, g/cm3 for solids, and g/L for gases. It can describe the characteristic property of a certain substance. The formula for density is defined as D = M/V wherein M is mass of the material and V is the volume the material occupies. The mass of a liquid or a solid may be taken directly from a balance. Likely the same, the volume of a liquid sample may be read from a graduated cylinder. Certain formulas can be used to calculate the volume of regular solids such as cube, rectangle and sphere. Using these two key measurements, we could calculate the density of a certain material. MATERIALS AND METHODS The density of water, isopropyl alcohol, coconut oil and an unknown liquid were...

...COCONUT SHELLS AS A SHOE POLISH ABSTRACT The study focused in making a specialized shoe polish from burned dried coconut husk. It aimed to prove the effectivity of the product in terms of some parametric measurements based on the preferences made by respondents. The parameters were adapted from written reviews for top commercial products. Also, this was made to test if there are really no significant difference between the output of the study and the existing product in the market. After gathering data through rating scales issued to the respondents of the study, it showed an average of 4.18. This mean rating was compared to a standard mean obtained by averaging the ratings of predominant commercial products. With the data obtained, the study implied that there is no significant difference between the effectivity of the shoe polish from burned dried coconut husk and the effectivity of the commercial shoe polish. INTRODUCTION Background of the study The coconut is the fruit of the most economically important member of the great palm family, Palmae. The genus cocos is Southeast Asian and contains only one species, C. Nucifera. Cultivated in tropical lowlands, almost always near the sea, the coconut has long been distributed throughout Southeast Asia and along the Tropical African and American coasts. For centuries, the coconut pal has supplied the people of the Pacific Islands with food, drink, shelter, and most of their needs. The roots furnish...

The abstract is typically a short summary of the contents of the document.] | Business is the back bone of any economy. It forms an economies foundation and without business your economy would be almost no existent and nothing more than a barter system really. Life would look much like a feudal system of our ancestors. In the US we have a capitalistic economy and business is the main component of it. Business is in every corner of every sector of what we do when we go to work. Most everything you can possible think of that relates to the economy is business. Retail, services, agriculture, manufacturing, health care, even the current campaign for president all involves business. Even when civilizations were based on an agricultural type of economy, business transactions occurred. For example, in an agricultural society based solely on farming, there would be different types of farming taking place. If one farmer grew coconuts, and his neighbor had cattle, they would probably trade coconuts and milk with each other. This is just a practical business transaction to make. If they did not barter in this way, one would be forced to go without milk and the other would be forced to go without coconuts. This is just an illustration to point out that business takes place even on the smallest scale throughout...

...THE USE OF BIOMASS WASTES TO FABRICATE CHARCOAL SUBSTITUTES IN KENYA Feasibility Study forming part of the Shell Foundation-supported project on charcoal briquetting in Kenya March 2004 Chardust Ltd. P.O. Box 24371 Nairobi and Spectrum Technical Services P.O. Box 69993 Nairobi Executive Summary This study was designed by Chardust Ltd. and implemented jointly by Chardust and Spectrum Technical Services, a Nairobi-consulting firm. The aim was to determine the viability of producing briquetted charcoal fuel from biomass wastes in Kenya. The study was funded by the Shell Foundation and conducted over a two month period in late 2003. The viability of producing fuel commercially from biomass wastes was assessed from four perspectives: (a) Availability: Existence and accessibility of biomass in bulk, preferably with no competing uses. The study began with a list of 28 potential wastes, which was narrowed down to 20 and then to just ten, according to a ranking system based upon basic availability and accessibility. (b) Conversion Potential: Physical suitability for drying, carbonisation and briquetting. Samples of the ten short-listed wastes were sourced and delivered to Chardust in Nairobi, where production trials were carried out. Based on these trials, a ranking system was devised for comparing the wastes in terms of their suitability for fuel production. (c) Fuel Quality: Energy value and general performance of fabricated fuel. The third part of the study comprised...

Dela Victoria Christian Dane A. Esteva Nicolo Martin M. Eugenio Neil Aaron M. Gayetta De La Salle University-Dasmariñas Dasmariñas, Cavite Philippines ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to identify the density, the degree of compression which resides in a substance through the relationship between the mass the substance and its volume, of solid and liquid samples. The materials used for the liquid samples include: water, isopropyl alcohol, coconut oil and an unknown liquid. In order to determine the mass, volume and density the group measured the different samples as accurate as possible. The experimental density values were measured at 1.01 g/ml, 0.800 g/ml, 0.940 g/ml, and 0.800 g/ml respectively at room temperature. As the group calculated for the percent error, using the given formula, the result was below 3.00% for all the samples. The unknown liquid, kerosene, was identified by comparing the measured density with its theoretical value. As for the solid samples a wooden cube, rectangular plywood, a marble, and a pebble was used in the said activity. The experimental density values of the solid samples were measured at 0.500 g/cm3, 1.99 g/cm3, and 2.61 g/cm3 respectively. Finally...

...Chapter 03 - Markets, Organizations, And The Role Of Knowledge CHAPTER 3 MARKETS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND THE ROLE OF KNOWLEDGE CHAPTER SUMMARY This chapter answers three primary questions: How do market systems work? What are the relative advantages of market systems compared to central planning in large economies? Why do we observe so much economic activity conducted within firms in market economies? In addition to covering the basic principles of exchange and supply-and-demand analysis, the chapter introduces two concepts that are critical to the subsequent development in the book: specific knowledge and contracting costs. The chapter also makes the important point that individuals have incentives to choose value-maximizing organizational arrangements. An appendix presents the basics of present value analysis and the valuation of common stock. It also discusses the concept of stock market efficiency. This appendix provides useful background material (for example, when instructors want to discuss the stock market reactions to events). ...July 8, 2013 Bishop Soc Villegas heads CBCP Villegas to pursue fight against RH law The protégé of the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates “Soc” Villegas, was elected president of the influential Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Sunday amid a continuing conflict between the Church and the Aquino administration on the controversial reproductive health (RH) law. At 52, Villegas will lead the 96 active and 40 honorary members of the bishops’ collegial body when Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma ends his term on Dec. 1. To succeed Villegas as vice president is Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles. While Villegas is known to have had strong ties with the late President Corazon Aquino, the mother of the incumbent Chief Executive, he is perceived as one who will not give in to the whims of the current administration. “One thing is certain, the archbishop will talk as needed. He will not keep quiet,” Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz told the Inquirer over the phone on Sunday. “This man is intelligent and courageous. He will exercise his [pastoral duties] and will put into action his qualifications.” Cruz said. Cruz cited a pronouncement that Villegas made amid the debate on the RH bill last year, which he noted “had angered the Palace.” “My dear youth, contraception is corruption. The use of government money, taxpayers’ money to give out contraceptive pills is corruption. Contraceptive pills teach us it is all right to have sex with someone...

Recommendations ………………………………………………………………………… Summary and Conclusion References Appendices Abstract Extensive importation of foreign products continues to cripple the Jamaican economy. The country imports just about everything as such this limits the amount of foreign exchange that could contribute effectively to the country’s development. The importation of paper is an area of concern which we believe must receive careful attention and must be seriously addressed. Paper is a resource that is utilized daily in many operations if not all and this precious resource has to be imported from other countries while the resources available in the country which could be adequately utilized in producing this heavily used commodity are being wasted. The parish of St. Thomas is indeed a parish that possess a vast amount of coconut husks and hibiscus leaves which could be used to create paper which will without a doubt help to increase export while decreasing paper importation and impacting positively on Gross Domestic Product. The Coconut husks and hibiscus leaves are resources which we...

...carbohydrate present. 3. The presence of other substances (soluble fiber for example) that slow metabolism of carbohydrates. Glucose has a glycemic index (GI) of 100 and fructose is 25. Sucrose (Ordinary sugar) which is made up of a combination of these two has a GI of 65. The search for a low GI natural sugar based sweetener is somewhat futile as they all contain combinations of the above, or similar sugars. Although fructose has a fairly low GI , it has other harmful effects and must be considered unsafe to take in large quantities. Agave Syrup has a low GI because it is mainly fructose. Agave has been delisted and banned by theGlycemic Research Institute of Washington DC because serious side effects were observed in clinical trials. Coconut Palm Sugar contains mainly sucrose and one would expect a GI of about 65. However it scores well in the glycemic index for sweeteners list. Tests have indicated a GI of only about 35. This may be partly because of other substances in it such as soluble fiber. However, the testing was very limited. More testing may well produce a higher GI. Yacon Syrup, scores best in the Glycemic Index for Sweeteners that are sugar based. It derives it's sweetness from Fructo-oligosaccharides, a type of sugar with a very low GI. It is probably the only truly raw, organic, natural, low calorie, and low glycemic sweetener available. Sugar alcohols tend to have very low GIs. In particular Erythritol has a GI of only 1, and it is a safe low calorie sweetener...
