Exercise 1.4: List the 3 careers which you labeled 1,2,3, and 20. For each one, explain why you labeled the occupation with that level of status. For example: 1) Auto technician: I ranked auto. technicians number 1 because nearly everyone relies on automobiles for transportation. Without transportation, most people would not be able to support themselves or a family. Auto. technicians serve a crucial role in maintaining our standards of living.

I feel like my top jobs were kind of half based on salary and half based on how I can give back to the community. Overall I feel like the jobs I picked first were subconsciously the jobs that I have the most interest in what I personally could get out of them, my natural talents, and give back to the world. The jobs for the most part seemed individualistic rather than security based.

Eleven Promising Jobs for 2011
I chose this article for a few reasons. The title caught my attention for one, and I think it’s a good idea for the next generation kids to know which paths to take in the future. To my surprise the jobs that they had ranked to be the top jobs of this New Year, were not at all the jobs I expected to see. I was expecting to see jobs like a doctor or a dentist, however instead I found jobs such as financial analyst and staff accountant. The jobs that are listed in this article are salary ranked, and are predicting security in their positions. In an economy such as the one we are living in today, it is always great to know what jobs will be there for us even when the rest of the world can’t. After reading this article I was a little discouraged because I didn’t see either of the two jobs I was considering listed. However, it is only the top 11 jobs and there are way too many jobs out there to get upset over not making the top 11 list. This article was a nice insight to the business world out there, and has opened my eyes to other options if my current routes fail. Besides, money isn’t everything, the careers I’m considering, Psychologist or a Neo Natal nurse, were chosen for the desire to help others, not the money!
