Each word can evoke realities that are doubtless more or less comparable from one period to another, from one cultural milieu to another, but that are profoundly different. Even if one does not study them closely, they are clearly different, in their extent as well as in their comprehension, to use the logicians’ terms. If the real goal of history is to rediscover the past, not as we see it, but as closely as possible to the way it was seen, lived, and understood by those who were present at the time, then it is a healthy exercise to question our own under- standing ofwhat we have excavated from the ancient soil. If I have chosen the “Code” of I:IB.lT1ITlUI‘3bi1 for such a review, it is be- cause that monument constitutes a striking example of this more or less im- plicit naive belief in the homogeneity of words, which is so dangerous in the study of history. When IjIammurabi's monument was discovered and de- ciphered, eighty years ago now, it was baptized in the field as a law “Code. ” This title was applied certainly not because the monument presented itself as such, but simply by the disposition and the appearance of the monu- 1. The last and the best translation of the “Code” in French, with a short but excellent introduction, is by A. Finet, Le Code de I_~lam11mTl11Ii. Advertising

...Complaint against Aldi for misleading ham advertisement By Áine Hennessy on 20 April 2016 1 • The complainant considered the advertising to be misleading. Aldi advertised the weight of a mini Serrano ham as 1.5kg, however the actual weight specified on the box was 0.950kg. The complaint was upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland. The Aldi Specialbuys advertisement featured a picture of the ham on a wooden block with a knife lying alongside. The offer read: “A slice of heaven – Mini Jámon Serrano €19.99 1.5kg.” The complainant said that while the weight of the ham had been advertised as 1.5kg, the actual weight specified on the box label was 0.950kg. The complainant therefore considered the advertising to be misleading. Aldi said that they conducted a thorough investigation of the matter, and while the weight of the Aldi ham product had been correctly displayed in store and on the packaging of the product itself, they had inadvertently included the incorrect weight on their website. The supermarket said that the error occurred as a result of including the weight of the wooden block in the overall weight of the product. As they did not sell their products online, they considered that there had never been any possibility that a customer could have purchased the product believing that the product weighed 1.5kg. Complaint upheld The Complaints Committee considered the details of the complaint and the advertisers’ response. They noted that a genuine...

. Giả sử ta có 1 ứng dụng quản lý...

Cormac Mccarthy The Road Analysis

...men. They are gone and I am left and they have taken with them the world.” (McCarthy, pg 32) Within a year of the apocalyptic event, blood-cults and marauders have taken control and society has devolved to a state of survival. Without the constraints of society, morality becomes increasingly simple and the lines between right and wrong more clear. The man's moral code for being a good guy can be summed up with the following rules: don't eat people, don't steal, keep your promises, help others, and never give up, which together define the man's maxims the he can will to become universal law in line with Kant's definition of the Categorical Imperative. While much of humanity has devolved into a state of cannibalism, eating others is never even considered by either the man or the boy and is in fact the only rule to which the man consistently holds. Early in The Road, the man and the boy come across a barn with three bodies hanging from the rafters and find a ham in the adjacent smokehouse. Though both choices of meat are dry and dusty, there is never any consideration of frying up strips of human flesh the way they do the ham. (pg 17) Even when they are starving, the boy desperately asks his father if they would ever eat somebody. The man's response is that they would never eat anybody, no matter what, because they are the good guys (pg 128). This conversation demonstrates the father's commitment to maintaining morality as he instills the ideal in the boy that resorting to cannibalism...

They might know about identity theft, viruses, Trojans and worms however what they fail to recognize is how these things are accomplished and if they have actually fallen victim to one of these horrible attacks. But what about attacks with even greater impacts…like someone hacking into the computer system of a car that controls the brakes? Perhaps penetrating the systems that control nuclear power plants? Although it seems unlikely that either of these extremely scary scenarios would ever happen, it is most definitely possible. One researcher for IBM’s Internet Security Systems told the owners of a nuclear power station that he could hack into their system through the Internet. The power station took this as a joke, responding to Scott Lunsford, the IBM researcher, with a laugh in his face saying that it was “impossible”. In response, Scott took up the power plant on their words and proved them wrong. In less than twenty-four hours, Scott’s team had infiltrated the system and in...

Rules Suck

...1. The “no head gear” policy has become outdated since people do not wear hats as part of their normal everyday attire. As stated by the ‘code of conduct’ from the school website, “to reflect that school is a place where we do things differently and to be respectful of the learning environment, hats and other headgear (other than religious apparel) are not to be worn in school.” Respect for their learning environment is shown in many different ways and not just by clothes and accessories. A student’s attitude, willingness to learn and behaviour towards peers and elders are the ways to show respect. Instead of banning hats completely, we should improve this rule by limiting them, to outside of the class rooms. As in today’s modern times hats have become a fashion statement for teens and banning it would be a method for oppressing them. 2. The cost of the food at cafeteria is very expensive and is not at par with what is available in the market for example, a freshly made, hot medium cheese or pepperoni pizza costs 5$ and a junior chicken burger from Mc Donald’s costs 1.50$. Whereas a slice of cold pizza costs 3.75$ and a ham burger costs 2.45$. The school should allow commercial vendors to sell their food at the school cafeteria while strictly adhering to food guidelines as it is done in post-secondary. 3. The course,” Mathematics for Work and Everyday Life” should be taught as a mandatory course and not as an alternative to academic or applied math. It teaches you math skills...

Bill Nye Accomplishments

...Honor is a feeling of high esteem or respect. In my view, honor means to cherish something, and to recognize its importance. It also means pride and worth, as well as dignity. In this paper, we will be learning about Bill Nye, and how he is an honorable scientist. William Sanford Nye was born on November 27, 1955 in Washington, D.C. to Jacqueline Nye, a code breaker during World War II, and Edwin Darby Nye, who was also in World War II. His mother being a code breaker is what sparked his interest to become a scientist in the first place. Bill Nye attended school at Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Junior High. He graduated in 1973 after attending Sidwell Friends School. After high school, he went to Cornell University on a partial scholarship, where he studied mechanical engineering. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science of Mechanical Engineering in 1977. After obtaining this degree, Nye moved to Seattle, where he worked for The Boeing Company as a mechanical engineer. He stayed in Seattle for quite a few...

Creation vs Evolution

...RESEARCH PAPER on “How the Bible and evolution clashes, why is the knowledge of the Doctrine of Creation is important to understand?” THEO 525 LUO (fall 2013) Systematic Theology I Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary October 11, 2013 Creation and Evolution clashes, when there are changes being made to the age of the earth and the creation of man. The structure is described in the Bible as God created it; however, it describes the earth before the six days of creation. When thinking about the integration of evolutionary principles, as far as the scientific laws are concerned, there is no difference between the origin of the earth and all of its life. Could the Big Bang theory have happened? The Gap Theory, everything made out of nothing. Is the Gap Theory real? Luther sided with the Bible and creation, is his blessing relevant today? Was the earth created out of nothing, no previous atoms did God use? God created the heavens and the earth in six days so we had the seventh day for Shabbat. The Progressive Creation explains the Genesis flood and the six days of creation. So the question is could God really have created everything in six literal days? If so, where did the origins of life come from; and what about the Law of Nature, their survival of the fittest? How big is the rift between the evolutionist and the creationist? Can we trust the Bible to tell us the truth? These are the questions that I will be looking for an answer to. In evolution...

A permit holder who parks on a street authorized for permit parking must park in a legal parking space subject to existing traffic regulations. In addition, the vehicle registration must remain valid and the validation sticker must be affixed to your licence plate, while you are a permit holder. Permits issued on an area basis will have the corresponding area shown on the face of the permit. A permit holder with such a permit may park on any street authorized and signed, which bears the same area code. Permits issued on a street-name basis will have a five digit code number typed on the face of the permit. A permit holder with such a permit may park only on the authorized and signed sections of the street for which the permit is issued. As a permit holder, you must comply with all NO PARKING signs (for example, NO PARKING 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., etc.). However, you may ignore those signs on your street or in your designated area which limit parking to one, two or unsigned three hour parking restrictions. A permit holder shall be given a grace period to move their vehicle from 9:00 p.m. the previous night to 9:00 a.m. the next morning on changeover days for areas where there is a change in parking from one side of the street to the other side.
