The most important concepts I’ve learned in this semester was to not give up and keep going. I love all my classmates and instructors because they have taught me not to stress about college and work. My instructors help me each and every day to keep trying on my homework and when I ask for help, they are right there supporting me. I know that my grades and attendance is not all that great but my instructors give me chances to catch up on all my homework and give me second chances. I think by just handing in all your homework that attendance shouldn’t even matter because there all kinds of students that work and go to college at the same time and I am one of them. I am learning how to balance a full-time job and also being a full-time student, it gets very overwhelming but my instructors encourage me not to give up because they all have been there before and know what it feels like. This semester has been overwhelming for me but I am teaching myself to keep striving for more and not give up. I am so thankful for having such incredible instructors and classmates to keep pushing me to become that much better at what I am doing in college. Little Priest is probably the best college for me right now because it is the most easy college there is for me right now especially juggling a job on the side. The most important concepts I have learned through Little Priest is not to give up and keep striving for more.

...Personal responsibility and college success are one in the same. According to Merriam and Webster, responsibility is the quality or state of being morally, legally or mentally accountable. Self-advocacy is also speaking up for yourself and learning how to assert yourself effectively. It’s making decisions that pertain to you and your life. It’s also finding out who will support you on your journey to success in college and future endeavors. ...Now, as a college student, I have learned so much more from what I knew in my younger years. One thing that I learned and what I wish to pass on is my belief of what success is. Going through college, I have failed many times. My path on the pre-pharmacy program has not been a smooth one, to the point that I had to extend beyond a 3 year undergrad to a 3 and a half year undergrad. Starting college I did not have the best study habits nor focus to do well in my classes. This led me to have a mediocre GPA, but I was barely going to make the cut. Unfortunately, I overslept for a biology practical in the summer session, causing me to fail the lab which results in failing the class. This was devastating to my GPA as well as to my morale....

Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Responsibility and College Success Andrew More Gen/200 August 20, 2012 Prof. Cassandra Smith Personal Responsibility and College Success Personal responsibility for me is an important concept composed of three parts. It is a continuous process, starting with the recognizing of social standards, which leads into the formulation of a plan as an effort to comply with these standards, and ends with the acceptance that failures are a direct result of my own shortcomings. These components are every bit as important as the whole, all intrinsically tied in with long term college success. Personal responsibility commences with the recognizing of social standards. People do this automatically without even knowing it. It is the constant desire to fit in, the interpretation of what is socially acceptable or not. This is where I choose what social group I wish to belong to. Each social group has its own different set of standards, yet they are always polarized into success or failure. My understanding of these standards is the basis for my perception of what failure is, and what success is. According to Haskins (2009) “When applied to education, personal responsibility means that students accept the responsibility to study hard and to learn as much as they can in courses that press against the limits of their capacity.” It can be said that students in general wish to be perceived as successful. The first thing I as a student do is evaluate what success means in my course;...

Cycle Of Success In College

...Achieving success is primarily an individual’s ability to value their experiences in life. Whether it is success in education or competing in a particular sport or event, success is primarily the conscience recognition of an accumulation of many small or significant moments of progress and therefore can be considered a success. The exposure of countless meaningful occurrences of success can lead to a cycle of positive recollection and meaningful experiences. Similarly, a cycle of success occurs when...

Impact of Personal Irresponsibility and College Success

Success in higher education relies entirely on the direct effect of personal responsibility, as it is the job of a student to have the discipline to fulfill the educational requirements. Having a plan from the start to succeed in college is crucial and without personal discipline a student’s purpose might be defeated. The concept of personal responsibility is difficult to define, as the meaning differs from person to person. Nonetheless, being personally responsible is taking control of our individual lives. It is being accountable to yourself what happens when you make a decision. On a daily basis there are decisions I need to make and having a clear view of what needs to be done makes it possible for me to achieve success at the end of the day. College Admissions Essay: The Success Of Failure

...The Success of Failure Since the day I could walk, I have been obsessed with greatness. Or afraid of failure, whichever way you want to look at it. Whether it was school, sports, or just being a friend to someone, I had a burning desire to always make the people in my life proud. Although this was true for everything I was involved in, it was especially true for cheerleading. I was a cheerleader from grade school all the way up until my senior year of high school. I loved it and it always came natural. When I made it to high school however, things started changing. After an unimaginably nerve racking tryout, I made the JV competition team as a freshman, which was my goal entering in. The year went by and I could see myself improving little by little everyday. I was sure by the next year’s tryouts I would make the Varsity competition team easily. My family kept telling me how excited they were to see me on Varsity and they just knew I would make it. The next year’s tryouts came around quicker than I realized, and even quicker came the disappointment of seeing my name on the JV competition roster, AGAIN! The disappointment I felt was unlike any other I had experienced. Nevertheless, cheerleading was the one thing I loved most and quitting was not an option. I began to develop a more positive attitude about the upcoming season and...

...Brandy Tyree Sharla Yates English 098 June 7th, 2012 Succeeding in College College can be a very difficult time in a persons life. Especially, for those like myself that have been out of school for many years or even for those who had hard times in high school. It is my first quarter in college and I have found that college does not have to be challenging. If one such as myself, just takes the initiative to learn the ways to make it not such a trying time we can become very successful. There are many different study skills that can help us succeed in college. Note taking is one of the skills that I have found very helpfully in my first quarter in college. Taking notes can be used for many different reasons and help in many different ways. Notes can be used for teachings in class that have no related textbook. Writing down things like questions the teacher asks as well as the answers to those questions, these can reveal the teachers goals and objectives of the subject (“Study Tip #09”) . Even if there is a textbook to the teachings, notes can save time in having to go back through a chapter of the book to find the information needed. Writing down everything from titles to organize the notes to new words or concepts, even diagrams and forms can all be very useful. These notes are very helpful to look back at to study for upcoming exams. If one does not take notes all they have is memory to rely on, the odds aren't very good. “Most people can keep information in their...
