I always got good grades in school but it's not just because I was aiming to get into the best high schools or the best colleges it's simply because I love learning. Ever since kindergarten I have gone the extra mile in all of my classes, doing more than what is required to get good grades by going to my teachers and doing extra work. In fourth grade I wrote a short story and gave it to my teacher who submitted it to a small writing contest. I didn't win the contest but I had learned from the experience. My teacher gave me important grammar tips that we didn't learn in class that I still remember to use

Framework Of Success In College Analysis

...When I enter college in a couple of years, I will likely have the resemblance of an adolescent's morality. In contrast, to the pre-collegiate world, graduation from a successful college experience will mark my moral reform by exhibiting the moral consciousness of an adult. The moral principles of human beings exist in continual development with the person; therefore, my maturity level signifies how my moral values critically influence my standpoint on personal success. According to the Writing Program Administrators Council's “Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing,” responsibility and engagement are two of eight habits of mind that are essential to be “critical for college success” (2011). I definitely agree with the Writing Program Administrators Council, especially with improvement in the responsibility aspect of a human being. The final partition of college success, to me, consists of nurturing main moral principles, like responsibility, in order to be compared to the outside world where scholars constantly prepare to arrive at one day. “Top 10 Secrets of College Success,” by Lynn F. Jacobs and Jeremy S. Hyman, tip seven clearly supports my point on responsibility and involvement by claiming that the reader should “take each test three times” (2010). Although it may not seem viable or reasonable...

Title Ix: Equity or Elimination?

...States, a nation founded on the ideals of freedom and equality, continue to battle for equal rights. A key moment in this fight for equality occurred in 1972 with the passage of the Title IX Amendment to the Equal Opportunity in the Education Act. Title IX states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" (Sadker par. 2). This piece of legislation has had a profound impact upon college athletics. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has interpreted Title IX as requiring an equal opportunity for male and female athletes at our nation's universities. More specifically, the NCAA has ruled that in order to uphold Title IX, the money spent on male and female sports must be equal, as does the proportion of male to female athletes at an institution. Though on the surface Title IX would seem to guarantee equality between the genders in collegiate athletics, the practical applications of the law have led to the elimination of...

College Athlete, Looking for a Paycheck

...Ronald C Edwards, Jr. Mrs. Thomas English 1010 December 22, 2010 College Athlete, Looking For A Paycheck? NCAA Said, “NO”. For almost, a decade now the controversial question is, “Should College Athletic, be paid pay for their performances that generated profit for the colleges”. Each year college teams across the board have large annual profits. Many feel the player should receive a portion of the profits for living expenses or placed into a trust fund for their life after college. Teetering with the thoughts it seems as if they should get something for their efforts but, most of the athletic are in under scholarships that cover tuitions, board, and books. The National Collegiate Athletic Association also known as, “NCAA” provides allowance for expenses pertaining to travel and equipment. Therefore, further compensation seems irrelevant or let’s say redundant,” Is it”? Or maybe a five hundred to one thousand dollar a month cut to each player is the answer; they are generating large amounts of income for someone. This sounds like a job to me. For decades the following conference: Southeastern Conference, Pac 10, Big Ten, Atlantic coast, Big East, and Big 12, have been big TV deals for ESPN, CBS, NBC, and Fox sports networks. These networks provide millions of dollar in revenue to the schools each year, to broadcast there game. On top of the TV networks, many of the conferences have their own TV networks. The conference provides the cable company with exclusive gaming...

I cannot even imagine how cool it would be to live in a different country for six weeks and start learning about how people from England live their everyday lives. Why are you applying to this program? In what specific ways will this program contribute to your overall academic and professional objectives? I have a number of reasons why I am applying to the London School of Economics program. As I mentioned earlier, it will give me the once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about a whole different country and their societal norms. Personally, I also find studying on the other side of the world to be more intriguing than just taking two foreign language classes here at Indiana University. The classes I plan on taking at the London School of Economics will even benefit me greater, as they pertain to my intended major of accounting more closely than say a Spanish class at IU. Finally, having studied abroad could potentially give me the upper hand on a fellow classmate I am competing with for a job opportunity. Having completed this program will continue to build my knowledge and gain a well-rounded understanding of the business occurring throughout the...
