The coming of age story by William Falkner “Barn Burning” revolves around the influences in Colonel Sartosis Snopes life and the conflicting choice to either continue to live life the way he was exposed to or to go against his father’s values – his blood’s values- to live a morally just life. Through this story memories of burning barns down for revenge were justified in the eyes of his father Abner Snopes, but Colonel Sartosis cannot help but to feel that he must do the right thing by abandoning his father’s ways for the value of a virtuous lifestyle.
