Color Palettes

I will give you some tips and tricks on finding the perfect color palette for your graphic.
Maraming color palettes na makikita sa Google, Tumblr, at sa isa sa mga pinaka-malaking color palette sharing communities, ang ColourLovers. (click external link; it will redirect you to ColourLover’s homepage.) [1]
In searching color palettes, importante na alam niyo yung theme ng graphic ninyo. Kunware eh, ang theme ng graphic na gusto ninyong gawin e summer o kaya beach, pwede niyo yun i-search sa ColourLovers. Just find the search bar then type your desired keyword. [2]
After pressing enter, the search engine will give you a lot of choices for the perfect color palette. [3] Let’s say you’ve found your chosen palette. Open the Snipping Tool, drag the cursor over the color palette, then the program will direct you to an interface similar sa interface ng MS Paint. I-save niyo na siya, then pwede niyo na siyang itago at magagamit niyo pa siya sa mga susunod ninyong graphic.
In using your desired palette on your graphic, I have a friend named the Eyedropper Tool. Let us do a sample typography-based graphic using a color palette I’ve found online. After gawin yung process sa taas, open your selected palette in Photoshop (as an image muna). [A] Then, create another document. In this tutorial I will be using 800x500 pixels. [B]
Go to your palette, then select a color in it. It will automatically go to the foreground color box. Go to the Menu bar then select Window>Swatches. Afterwards, select the icon similar to the new layer icon. [C] (the icon mentioned is encircled.) You’re selected color from the palette will be added to your swatches. Repeat this process until all colors are added.
If you wish to use a color from your swatch, just select it from the the choices then it will automatically go on the foreground color box.
With some magic (joke) and mastery, you will be able to produce graphics purely based on your chosen color palette. [D; sample graphic using chosen palette]

...ArtH 111 Midterm Study Guide 1. Menkaure & Khamerernebty • Context-religious This is a Ka sculpture. In Egyptian culture, there is the notion that an energy/spirit/soul, the Ka, survived after the actual body expired. Even though there was no longer a body, the Ka would continue to need shelter and sustenance; the Ka would inhabit the mummy to receive offering from family, worshippers, etc. Because mummies were frequently stolen or destroyed, Ka sculptures were made in case the Ka spirit needed a new shelter. The family could ten continue to bring offerings to the Ka. • Style-period This piece is of the Egyptian Old Kingdom style. It is a freestanding piece, but connected by back to the Greywacke block; this is very characteristic of the period style. As for the form, it is also characteristic in the manner that bilateral symmetry prevails, there are harmonious proportions, and how the lines work to keep the human figure compact. It is also characteristic of the Egyptian Old Kingdom style in the manner of how the portrait establishes a standard representation of Kingship and Queenship. They carry themselves as royalty, are wearing distinctive high status clothing (Headdresses, false beard), and the female’s “womanhood” is very apparent (swollen belly, full breasts, pubic triangle). 2. The Apoxyomenos (“The Scraper”) • Materials The Greek original of this piece was a bronze. Unfortunately, like many other pieces of the time, it was melted down. What...

...ancient cultures that they are truly unique and utterly irreplaceable. The gold mask of Tutankhamun was allowed to leave Egypt for display overseas; the Narmer Palette, on the other hand, is so valuable that it has never been permitted to leave the country. Discovered among a group of sacred implements ritually buried in a deposit within an early temple of the falcon god Horus at the site of Hierakonpolis (the capital of Egypt during the pre-dynastic period), this large ceremonial object is one of the most important artifacts from the dawn of Egyptian civilization. The beautifully carved palette, 63.5 cm (more than 2 feet) in height and made of smooth greyish-green siltstone, is decorated on both faces with detailed low relief. These scenes show a king, identified by name as Narmer, and a series of ambiguous scenes that have been difficult to interpret and have resulted in a number of theories regarding their meaning. The high quality of the workmanship, its original function as a ritual object dedicated to a god, and the complexity of the imagery clearly indicate that this was a significant object, but a satisfactory interpretation of the scenes has been elusive. What was the palette used for? The object itself is a monumental version of a type of daily use item commonly found in the predynastic period—palettes were generally flat, minimally decorated stone objects used for grinding and mixing minerals for cosmetics. Dark eyeliner was an essential aspect of life in...

Color Symbolism In The Great Gatsby

...Before artists start on any sort of masterpiece, they must take into account which colors to use; typically the colors have meaning to it. An artist's palette during the 1920s was most likely filled with glitter and glam and lots of color. Like an artist, F. Scott Fitzgerald intertwines these colors into his novel The Great Gatsby not only to establish flow, but to emphasize the importance of the character’s desires, wealth, and avarice. Because Fitzgerald weaves colors into the setting, characters, and plot, the reader is able to comprehend why certain characters act the way they do and why some put up masks. Confidence and hope is found within the color green, a color in which correlates with the green light that is seen towards the end of chapter one. Fitzgerald’s paintbrush serves...

Art Appreciation

...elements and terms describe the palette, shape and Space. Be sure to identify the perspective system employed in this painting The palette, or range of colors used in this painting, have a more neutral tone. The combination of forest greens, golden yellows, faint blues, and grays, combined with the lack of any bright colors, gives the painting a more neutral look. The painting employs several triangle shapes, which can be seen at the apex of the trees and the two mountains in the posterior of the landscape. The spacing of the painting is both three-dimensional and deep. As one looks into the painting, it feels as if one could walk into the painting and move into the landscape. The painting has depth, as it feels like one can “see for miles” into the painting. This painting certainly employs an aerial perspective system, as the clouds, haze of the atmosphere, and vantage point all add depth to the space. Question 2. Explain how the artist uses color create space. (In answering this question, be sure to identify if the compositional space is two dimensional or three dimensional) Also articulate how the artist uses color to convey light and rhythm. The artist uses the varying colors on the red background to create the perception of three-dimensional space. The contrast of the dark dots and the golden dots on the red background makes the painting appear as if the red is a type of screen with holes in it. The artist also uses the contrasting colors to create this illusion of...

The Book Thief

...Joshua Steel Death is a Synesthete In The Book Thief Death is personified and described as a Synesthete. Synesthetes experience the world differently. A sound is not just heard; it might be perceived as a color. In the prologues first section “Death and Chocolate” when Death mentions that when you die the only thing he’ll hear “will be my own breathing and the sound of the smell of my footsteps”. In this section Death also tells us about how he personally likes a dark chocolate colored sky (hence “Death and Chocolate”) though he tries to enjoy the billion or so flavors of sky to slowly suck on. During the next three sections of the prologue Death immerses himself in the colors; White, Black, and Red. At first glance these three hues may seem unrelated and almost randomly elected but we later find out some pretty serious sybolism behind this tiny palette of chroma. White, of the most blinding kind. Death assures us that white is indeed a color before he describes the whole globe as “being dressed in snow” while the trees “wear blankets of ice”. White is often seen as representing puritiy and innocence; two attributes that are also often linked to childhood which is fitting, since Liesels brother had just died. While Death is collecting the young boy’s soul he wavers and notices a young Liesel in the very midst of her innocence and purity. Black, the darkness before dawn. This time around, Death elucidates the scene of a freshly crashed...

Pigments

...paintings ever found were cave paintings. Ancient peoples decorated walls of protected caves with paint made from dirt or charcoal mixed with spit or animal fat. In cave paintings, the pigments were able to stick to the walls because the pigments became trapped in the porous wall and also, because the spit of fat dried and adhered the pigment to the wall. It is hypothesized that the way that the paint was applied was through brushing, smearing (using their fingertips), dabbing and using spraying techniques. Brushes were made from horsehair, and paint spraying (similar to air brushing) was accomplished by blowing paint through hollowed animal bones. Historians found the shoulders of animals, as well as other animal bones in caves stained with color presumed to have been used as mortars for pigment grinding. The pigment was made into a paste with various binders such as water, juice from vegetables, urine, blood, animal fat and etc. Common binders that were used historically by Native Americans include human spit, hide glue, bone marrow fat, and other animal fats such as bear grease, prickly pear cactus juice (may leave a green residue or tint), and soapy juice from yucca roots or leaves. California Indians also used a...

Water-Young-Il Ahn

...inches and this painting measures at exactly 72 x 60 inches. It is oil on a canvas and is part of Ahn’s A Memoir of Water Works. This painting is a startling piece of work. In this painting, Ahn uses bold colors and texture to mimic the immensity of the ocean and the constant movement of the waves. He uses mostly different shades of blue, red, green, and yellow. The bright colors he uses are more of a representation of his own creative style. Ahn captures a more private moment using bold colors creating an emotional impact. He used bright colors and elaborately used more of a royal blue than red, yellow, and green. . He also used graceful and sensuous lines that seem to appear as small brushstrokes. The surfaces on this painting are textured beautifully and do happen to show a bit of small harsh lines, almost like dabs giving the artwork a dramatic feel. This work of art is represented as non-representational art because it takes nothing from reality. It is created purely for aesthetic reasons. The intent was to use the elements and principles of art in a way that results in a visually stimulating work. Ahn clearly used a limited palette to paint this artwork because he used limited colors. There might be different shades of the colors but still sticks to four main colors. Ahn makes this artwork asymmetrical because it is not identical on both sides of a central line and simply lacks symmetry. Asymmetrical balance often has more variety, visual interest, and liveliness. There...
