Many people know someone who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. It is confusing how some people use these names interchangeably. While Alzheimer’s disease and dementia have similar characteristics, the treatment for the disease is based on symptoms as well as how the diseases are acquired. Alzheimer’s is a form of dementia so they are very closely related. (Fraller, 2013) Knowing the slight differences between the two diseases could, in some cases, mean a cure.
Both Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are caused by a dysfunction in the brain. In Alzheimer’s disease, there is a loss of brain cells brought on by age. Studies have shown that 10% of all people over the age of 65 and 50% of people over the age of 85 have Alzheimer’s. Out of all those people, only 1% of them inherited the disease. Someone who has experienced multiple head injuries or high insulin levels are also at a greater risk of acquiring Alzheimer’s. On the other hand, dementia is caused by changes to the brain. These changes may be caused by a stroke, brain tumors, or even head injuries. Diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, hyperthyroidism, B12 deficiency, and fluid build-up on the brain have also been known to cause dementia. (Healthwise Incorporated, 2011) Once the causes of the two diseases have been determined, it is important to discuss the symptoms. The similarities between the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are typically what dupe people into thinking they are the same disease. Both diseases will cause memory loss. This is the most obvious symptom because patients will forget things like personal hygiene, they may get lost easily, or they may forget names of family members. Major behavioral changes can occur in both diseases, such as, behaving like a child or becoming scared over

...Are you always thinking to yourself how you need to lose weight? Did healthy eating and exercise come to your mind or was trying a diet pill what you thought about? Everyone wants to lose weight, but no one ever wants to lose weight the healthy way. People just want to find a quick and easy way to lose weight fast. Regardless of any harmful side effects that can result later down the road to their body. Metabolism disruption, dehydration, and addiction are just a few of some serious health problems that can occur. When people choose diet pills over healthy eating, they never consider those harmful effects on their body that can result from their quick fix. One harmful effect is Metabolism Disruption. Metabolism disruption is one of the possible dangers of taking weight-loss pills. Metabolism is the body's process of converting food and water to energy. Diet pills are made to suppress a person’s appetite, meaning you will not want to eat a lot. In doing that you will be limiting your calorie intake; as an end result, slowing your metabolism down. With fewer calories consumed, your metabolism slows down and becomes sluggish. This causes you to lose lesser and lesser weight over a period of time. It can also cause your body to go into starvation mode. When your body is in starvation mode, meaning you do not consume enough food to provide your body with the essential nutrients it needs daily, your body will slow your metabolism down to conserve energy. Slower metabolisms need less...

There is one paragraph matching each of the following types: summary, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Once you have read each paragraph, complete the following chart to identify the type of paragraph for each. |Paragraph Number |Type of Paragraph | |1 |evaluation | |2 |analysis | |3 |synthesis | |4 |summary | 1. Alice Axia’s article discussed overlooked tax deductions. It talked about some of the most commonly missed deductions. Whereas her use of statistics seemed to bolster her arguments, it would have been nice to see her elaborate more about the specific deductions missed. She could have talked about what recourse, if any, a filer would have once he or she realized there was an overlooked deduction. She also should have focused more on why the deductions were overlooked, as that would have made the article more effective. 2. Alice Axia informs us of ways in which we can reduce our tax obligations in any given year. Based on studies she cited, there were cases in which some tax filers were unaware of various deductions they were eligible to claim. In some cases, those...

...Associate Program Material Appendix G Introductions and Conclusions As you begin to write the rough draft of your paper, think critically about how you might draw your readers’ attention in a compelling way. Consider how to create a rapport with the audience. For example, what areas of agreement may already exist between you and your readers? What does your audience need in order to make them interested in your topic? Types of Introductions One way to draw in the audience is to grab readers’ attention with the introduction. Consider opening your paper in one of the following ways: • Tell a story or an anecdote. If you have personal experience in this area, tell a story about yourself or someone you know. Example: Last year, approximately 3,400 adult nonsmokers died from lung cancer due to secondhand smoke. • Provide a short, famous quotation. Example: “It's easy to quit smoking. I've done it hundreds of times..” – Mark Twain (1835–1910) • Write as if your position will argue the other side of the topic. ...There are many reasons why people resort to compulsive eating, such as being stressed or as a result of worrying. Over time, the problems fade away but the excessive weight gain is a reminder of the behavior that the stress and worriation has caused. It is at this point that most people decide that it is time to lose weight. Although it may not seem like it, gaining weight happens over time, and therefore shedding the pounds takes time as well. Losing weight is a big commitment full of trial and error; however, it is not impossible. One can lose and maintain weight when taking the proper measures. Proper diet and exercise are very essential when trying to maintain one’s weight. There are many behaviors that can be helpful during the weight loss process but maintaining healthy eating habits and routine exercise are two very different but important factors. Eating properly is very important when trying to lose weight. Simply put, if one eats more calories than he/she burns, weight will be gained. Eating fewer calories than what is burned will cause weight loss. However, eating fewer calories does not necessarily mean that one has to eat less food; it just means that food should be chosen wisely. Certain foods can be eaten several times a day if they have a small amount of calories. Portion control is one of the most important ways to control over-eating. Successful portion control consists of monitoring serving sizes and caloric intake. Sometimes feelings and emotions allow...

...Debra Bohlender Salmonella Home School and Public School Differ Greatly Some parents find the choice between home school and public school to be a difficult choice. While both sources educates the child the choice comes down to what fits the child and what the parents prefer. Looking at home school parents are enticed by the fact that he or she controls how his or her child is taught. In most cases, parents are also in control of the curriculum. When compared to public school seems very rigid with no freedom. Parents must make careful considerations when making the choice between home school and public school for his or her child. While all children in America must attend school, home schooling and public schooling differ in their curriculum, peer influences, and schedule flexibility. Some students need the public school environment to thrive while other students need the home school environment to thrive. One reason public school is so popular is because it is subsidized by the government and therefore, the parents’ burden of the cost to educate their children is cut down. The majority of families in America are at, or below poverty level. More parents enroll their children in public school because they know they can afford the expenses. Public school does have its drawbacks. The curriculum that is taught is decided by the government and each teacher must follow the same teaching method. Public schools must test their students constantly throughout each school...

...Traditional and Online School: The Choice of Success Have you ever thought of the endless career opportunities derived from a college education? Are you happy with your current financial situation? In a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, involving young adults age 25-34, as of 2009 the median annual earnings of an individual with a high school diploma or equivalent was $32,900, while a person with a bachelor’s degree averaged $51,000 per year. With the potential of a 45 percent increase in annual wages, the obvious question is when to start college and where to go. Professional growth is dependent upon education; regardless of current life status, both online and traditional educations provide a variety of possibilities to suit all individual needs. It is important to understand that traditional schools require their students to maintain a set classroom schedule; this can consist of multiple days a week with set class schedules ranging from one hour to 3 hours. The amount of students per class varies, depending on the class structure, each course starts on a specific date set forth by the college campus. Attending class in a traditional school requires the student to go to class on campus, while this provides a stable set schedule for students; daily life provides obstacles for some people that will not make this possible. Online schools generally begin courses more often than traditional schools making...

...Individuals without health insurance coverage have a harder time keeping up with their health, as opposed to individuals with insurance coverage. Americans’ without healthcare coverage have a harder time living happier productive lives than those who do have healthcare. Most American’s main reason for not having healthcare insurance is because they cannot afford the skyrocketing premiums. Approximately 47 million American’s are living without health insurance because they do not have extra expendable income at the end of each month. Congress created the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in order to increase the number of American citizens covered by health insurance companies and decrease the cost of the rising healthcare system. According to the New York Times health insurance has gone up over the last decade by 15 percent since 2001. Some health insurance companies jack up the cost of healthcare because they dominate the healthcare market within their respective state. This simply provides for an unfair market because it leaves consumers only having to deal with the one Healthcare Insurance Company or not having healthcare insurance. Some insurance companies will only cover part of the doctor’s visit or emergency room visit and still require you to pay a co-pay making it harder to keep your insurance while paying for your regularly monthly expenses. According to the International Federation of Health Plans, the average routine office...

Imagine living in a world surrounded by many people yet feeling alone, flawed, damaged, and unable to function in society. A patient suffering from mental illness can have these feelings every day. Education is the key to understanding mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Even though Schizophrenia and BPD share similar symptoms, they are often confused and misunderstood. There are a large number of similarities between BPD and Schizophrenia. Studies have shown that there is a genetic link with both mental illnesses. Childhood trauma, such as physical, sexual, and mental abuse, is a common history for patients with these diagnoses. Neglect of a child has negative effects that last a lifetime. The neglect causes symptoms such as inappropriate mood control, fear of abandonment, and attachment issues. No matter the history, whether it is genetics or abuse, facts show mental illness is prevalent. People who suffer from mental illness have a hard time functioning daily. Individuals with mental illnesses suffer from poor self-esteem and isolate themselves when they are in crises. Patients with these illnesses have contemplated, attempted or were successful with committing suicide. One in ten...
