...week One COM/156 July 24, 2011 Lisa Acerbo Assignment One, week One When writing a research paper, there can be some challenges to overcome. My first thought is what challenge do I have and need to overcome in order to write a great paper. The first challenge is keeping the readers interest and attention. It is very important to keep your readers interested in your writings and it can be hard trying to read something that you are unable to keep your attention on. Keeping the information of my writings to the research and subject will help this challenge. Another challenge can be determining an appropriate style and tone for my paper. Being consistent with my ideas in my style and tone, will keep the paper flowing with information and the reader will be able to understand the point I am trying to make. The third challenge is being persuasive enough in my writings and research papers. Also, being able to put my thinking and research into words and get my point across, but also integrate enough material from my sources to keep the paper persuasive and catch the reader’s attention will provide the needed steps to a great research paper. When writing my research papers, the strategies I want to utilize for my challenges are: finding an interesting subject to do my research on, and utilize as much information I can to write an interesting paper. By using as many resources I can, will insure that I have plenty of information to include in my paper. The next strategy...

...Revision Practice COM 156 Wk. 5 Assignment There are several changes that can be made to this paper. The first change that can be made is in the first paragraph where it reads “and was thought to be a contender to earn an academy award nomination. Ultimately that honor was not bestowed on the film, “it could have read “with possibilities of an academy award nomination, but ultimately it did not receive this honor”. Another possible change could be where it reads “but it’s popularity and ability to elevate the comic book film, which is rarely associated with quality storytelling, remain” could read “It is a rare quality of storytelling that has the ability to elevate the comic book film’s popularity the way this film did.” Moving onto the second paragraph, the main change needed is to eliminate the run-on sentence that takes up over half of the paragraph. This sentence should read “Specifically the films writer and director, Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Heath Ledger earned an academy award for his role as the Joker in this movie; sadly it wasn’t till after he had passed away. The Joker was one of Heath’s last roles and an excellent performance it was.” In the third paragraph instead of again listing the actors, the writer could have written; “While in most comic book movies the actors are not given any moments to showcase their acting abilities, this particular list of actors, while impressive, where able to showcase while excelling in their roles as well.” The...

...1 Revision Practice Angelia Renee Cady Com/156 May 15, 2011 Jennifer Iott Revision Practice After reading the draft of The Dark Knight, if there are any revisions to be made to improve this paper, keeping in mind the concept behind essay revision. Revising is looking for ways to make the ideas that this essay is built from clearer, stronger, and more convincing. When revising, always keep in mind that he/she may have to add, cut, move, or change whole sentences or paragraphs. When writing something like, “The Dark Knight was the most popular film of 2008,” there needs to be some kind of fact that backs this statement up. The awards that the film was nominated for or won can be mentioned to help give this comment some weight behind it would be appropriate. If it were me writing this essay on the Black Knight, I would want the world to know how good the story line is. Rearranging the order of the paragraphs would be appropriate, it is my opinion that the writer jumped ahead of himself/herself. I find that the information is a little scattered. Paragraph #2 and #3 needs to change places. The information in paragraph three is a continuation of the first paragraph. It gives the audience a look into why they will always view The Dark Knight as an outstanding movie. All the information concerning Batman Begins should follow after the second paragraph. This means, the original second paragraph is the third paragraph...

...Final Essay Prostate Cancer Terry L. Miller COM/156 Sunday June 1, 2014 Amanda Kosmus Prostate Cancer Treatments, Breakthroughs, and Survival Rates By: Terry L. Miller It is almost a given that everybody knows somebody who has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, or will be diagnosed with it sometime in the future. Being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer is no longer considered a death sentence and does not have to keep one from living a long life. What if one were told that a new treatment was available to totally wipe out the early stages of Prostate Cancer? Would anyone believe it? Well they need to, because it is true and under clinical trials here in the United States. “High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound” (HIFU) will do just that. The (HIFU) treatment destroys cancer cells by heating them with highly focused ultrasonic beams. “Sipuleucel-T” (Provenge), is a treatment vaccine that has also been proven effective, and recently received FDA approval. These two treatments alone have advanced Prostate Cancer treatments considerably. In 1975, the yearly Prostate Cancer diagnosis rate for new cases was 94 out of every 1000,000 men. The rate in which they died in the same year, was 31 men dying out of every 1000,000. Let us move forward to the year of 2007. In 2007, the yearly Prostate Cancer rate for new cases was 166 out of every 100,000. Also in 2007, the...
