Comcast Unexpected Layoffs in 2011

Comcast Unexpected Lay-offs in 2011 Comcast unexpected layoffs in 2011 were a bad impact on several of my co-works. Imagine coming to work on a Monday morning not knowing that your life would be changed without any prior notice from that day forward. We were not aware of this layoffs and it caught us all by surprise. The layoff left over 30 of my co-workers without a job in 2011. Comcast unexpected lay-offs in 2011 impacted all of their employees lives.

We learn about the unexpected layoff two weeks before the company transition from billing and repair to retention. At the beginning of the unexpected layoff, we were all scheduled a meeting with management. Each employee was e-mailed a certain date, time frame, and location to meet with management. When we all sat down to discuss the guidelines, procedures, and the process of the new department, we were all advised that we all had to submit a resume and an application to apply for the new position. The company decided to change our department from Billing and Repair to Retention. The management advised us to prepare an updated resume and to go online internally to apply for the new position. If there were any employees who were currently on a corrective action, that employee would not be eligible to apply for the position, unless the corrective action was about to expire. We were all devastated and did not know if we would have a job to support our families and expense’s. Recently, I went online several months ago to see if there have been any layoffs with in our company. The first article I read was located on (www.ibj.com/comcast-annouces-layoffs-hirings-fishers). This article was submitted in 2012, and it stated that in the state of Indiana, Comcast Corp. has notified that it plans to lay off 57 customer-retention employees in its Fishers office by the end of the year. It also stated in that same article that they also planned to add 37 customers-service workers during the same time period. (www.ibj.com/comcast-annouces-layoffs-hirings-fishers) This article is similar to what happened to billing and repair agents in 2011. Management tired their best to explain to us the reason for Corporate making the changes to retention. The explanation that management provided us with did not make any sense. Management stated that “We are trying to enhance our company as a whole” and that was the reason for transiting to retention. I also came across another article on line at (www.cizwin.com/more-comcast-layoff-in-2013). In this article it stated that there were several layoffs in 2013. Some of these layoffs were because of pricing adjustments in the New Comcast Contract csg systems. The system slashed the international pricing, and this resulted in layoffs in 2013. Another layoff in 2013 occurred when Blockbuster filed bankruptcy and Dish network bought out Blockbusters. Comcast had a contract with Blockbuster and lost the contract when Dish Network bought out Blockbusters. (www.cizwin.com/more-comcast-layoff-in-2013)

After we submitted our application and resume for retention, we were all notified by via e-mail the time and date for our interview. Some of my fellow co-workers did not get a second interview; therefore they were not hired for the retention position. There were over 30 agents who were not hired for the retention position. The agents that were selected for rehired were all provided with a new hired and training date. There were four training classes with a proximally 30 agents per class. Those 30 agents were broken down into two separately classes. After the agents completed the class, they were all placed with a supervisor and a location in the call center to work under their new supervisor. The agents who were not hired had to sit in an area away from the other agents. Management kept those agents working in billing and repair until it officially were close on May 28, 2011. The agents who were not rehired were provided with servant pay and unemployment. We found out that after those agents were not hired, over 50 new agents externally were hired for the same retention position that they were not rehired for too. That made those co-workers ferrous and disappointed with Comcast Corporation. The Comcast Unexpected Layoff in 2011 affected all of my co-workers.

In conclusion, “Comcast Unexpected Layoff in 2011,” affected over 100 of their co-workers lives. I was one of those employees who affected by the layoff, but I was one of the fortunate people to still have my job today. It took some of those employees over a year to find another job. Reading the articles made me realized that the department I worked for was not the only department who were affected by layoffs. Comcast unexpected layoff in 2011 will never be forgotten by the several employees are still working from the billing and repair department.

...Learning with Cases INTRODUCTION The case study method of teaching used in management education is quite different from most of the methods of teaching used at the school and undergraduate course levels. Unlike traditional lecture-based teaching where student participation in the classroom is minimal, the case method is an active learning method, which requires participation and involvement from the student in the classroom. First, I believe that theory and the models that flow from it should provide the tools to understand, analyze, and solve problems.
