Many of the new trainees did not have transcripts on file. Carl Robins which was the new campus recruiter also discovered that none of the trainees had taken the mandatory drug screen. The new hire orientation was due to take place June 15, Carl not knowing the training room was already booked for the entire month of June had a problem. Carl was very confused and frustrated not knowing what to do next. ABC Inc hired Carl Robins in early April as the new campus recruiter. Carl had only been on the job for six months. Being a determined individual he decides to hire 15 new trainees to work for the operations supervisor. Carl figured everything within the company was run correctly and all paper work should have been in place for the process of hiring new individuals. The training schedule consisted of, drug tests, orientation, policy booklets, physicals and tons of other issues. To begin this process Carl needed to go over all the necessary paperwork needed for the orientation beginning on June 15. The first problem found was some of the new trainees did not have applications completed or their...

...Abortion-The Wrong Choice Renee Pina University of Phoenix COMM/215 December 3, 2011 Abortion-The Wrong Choice Plain and simple, abortion is murder. I strongly oppose abortion. God creates life and only God has the right to take life. Pro-Lifers want an amendment to the US Constitution that will give equal protection under the law to all living humans from time of their conception to the time of their natural death, and I fully agree that American needs that amendment. However, I question what kind of society do we live in that we have to ask for that kind of protection to begin with? I do not believe that the government should fund abortions. I do not believe that the government should fund Planned Parenthood, which is the largest abortion clinic in America. I believe that the violence inside and outside abortion clinics in America is wrong. Abortion is legal in the United States. In 1963, the Supreme Court decided in Roe vs. Wade that a woman can have an abortion in the first six weeks of pregnancy. Almost half of all pregnancies are unplanned and half of those half end up as abortions. The abortion debate has been ongoing for decades in America. Those that oppose abortion stand firm in their belief that they are right. Those that are pro-choice believe that a woman has a right to decide what is best for her. There is very little middle ground when it comes to...

There are multiple answers to this question; however there is certain criteria that makes some resources good, while others may lack. ...Persuasive Essay Name University of Phoenix Essentials of College Writing COMM/215 Michael Turner June 05, 2012 Persuasive Essay I can't believe that the government spends so much money on projects and overspend on something as simple as a desk. The Federal Government, for the last two years has not had a pay raise. The government has frozen all pay raises at the 2010 pay scale. This is a bunch of crap. We have people out there busting their ass everyday for what? I understand that the economy is down right now but the government is not going anywhere. This freeze has hit me in a bad way. It's like no matter if I work hard or don't work at all, I'm still going to getting the same pay. There is no incentive for me to go out and try to get better at what I do. But I'm not like that because I have pride in what I do. It's just knowing that my pay is going to be the same until the freeze is lifted. The House Appropriations Committee last week approved the bill, which was silent on whether to allocate funds for a federal civilian pay boost. President Obama recommended a 0.5 percent pay boost for federal workers in his fiscal 2013 budget request. The civilian pay raise provision is frequently included in the financial services appropriations bill, which requisitions funds for several federal agencies. (Palleschi, P. (2012). Really what is a .5% pay raise going to do? That won't even pay the taxes on the money I make extra. I just don't believe what...

...The War on Tobacco Jacquelyn Valdez COMM/215 September 1, 2014 Winifred Donnelly The War on Tobacco I am sure most people know that smoking harms your body, in some cases irreparably. Having access to this knowledge then begs the question, why would someone continue smoking? Maybe some people do it because they are in denial about all the effects that smoking has. Perhaps some have always smoked and since nothing negative has ever resulted, they do not believe the reports. Of the many reasons smoking is a bad habit, I have selected a few to elaborate on: 1) smoking has been known to cause cancer and other health problems 2) the toll that smoking takes on the family when a person fails to recognize the impact and 3) the increase in tobacco is making the purchase of cigarettes cost prohibitive. The Cancer-Related Fact Sheet (Source: www.cancer,org) reports staggering statistics as it relates to new cases and deaths related to cancer. In 2014, 224,210 new cases of lung cancer were reported. Similarly, 159,260 related to lung cancer were also reported – that’s about 436 people every day that die from smoking. While lung cancer is not the only cancer that is caused by smoking, it is the leading type. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer last year and her physicians attribute it to environmental reasons, put simply, smoking. She underwent all of the chemotherapy and radiation and the doctors removed the cancer, but she continues to smoke to this day. The oncologist...

...Case Study Analysis Paper Melissa Coy COMM/215 Feb 15th, 2015 Beverly Raznoff * The key problems for this case study are as follows: Carl’s paperwork and files for his new hires aren’t complete. Also, the training room has already been scheduled for the whole month of June by another employee. Carl as many issues that need to be remedied such as incomplete employee files, missing paperwork, and the orientation room being double booked. Background Carl has started a new recruitment of trainees for his Operations Supervisor, Monica. In May he was contacted about the paperwork and to see if everything would be scheduled in time for his orientation in June. He assured her that everything would be completed in time. To his dismay a few weeks before his orientation he discovered that that some of the new trainees didn’t have applications or transcripts in their files. The new hires hadn’t been sent to the clinic for their drug tests either. He also found out that another employee, Joe, had scheduled the training room for a computer training seminar for the whole month of June. If Carl wants to get his orientation on schedule and completed he needs to find a way to get his paperwork finished on time and find a place to conduct the training. Alternatives Possible alternatives for Carl’s situation could be: 1. Push the start date for the orientation back to a later date. (Possible constraints: Monica was...

...Adrianne N. Porter COMM/215 November 3, 2014 William Morgan Case Analysis Introduction Mr. Robins, the new recruiter for ABC, Inc. after being successful in the recruitment of 15 new employee trainees, failed to plan for basic training needs of a seminar he is responsible for presenting to the new trainees. His major problems are his lack of attention to detailed planning and taking for granted that this planning has been taken care of by others. Another problem is Monica Carroll’s, his supervisor, lack of hands on supervision of Carl as the new recruiter. She should have established better and more detailed communication with him. Communication is an ongoing process rather than a static event. Employees have a high tolerance for change if kept in the loop. When communication breaks down, it will directly impact productivity… (West, n.d.) Background Carl, having been on the job for six months could have had some phases of his new hire orientation planned prior to hiring the new trainees. Had he planned properly, he could have had the orientation manuals prepared in advance and been assured that he an ample number of copies available with all the pages intact. Preparation could have been made to reserve the needed facilities for the seminar by getting it on the schedule ahead of time. With this taken care of, he would be able to concentrate on the trainee applications and scheduling the mandatory drug screening of the trainees who were hired in April. His...

...Malone COMM/215 ESSENTIALS OF COLLEGE WRITING January 17, 2012 Building Blocks to a Healthy Heart Coronary artery disease is well known as a long-standing condition and is caused by multiple factors. Coronary artery disease occurs when fatty deposits called plaque multiply inside the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries encircle the heart and supply it with blood and oxygen. When the plaque increases, it narrows the arteries and reduces the amount of blood that flows to the heart. This plaque can result in a variety of complications, including a myocardial infarction. Coronary artery disease is the most common type of heart disease and is the number one cause of fatality of both men and women in the U.S. We will discuss how a heart healthy diet, regular exercise, smoking cessation and reduced stress level are essential building blocks in order to combat coronary artery disease. The majority of individuals with coronary artery disease do not develop symptoms prior to age 50. They may then begin to develop occasional symptoms, frequently following strenuous activity. In such cases, the heart typically performs vigorous exertions which require additional oxygen. Initial symptoms may include rapid heart rate, chest pain and shortness of breath. Some of the less common symptoms are high blood pressure, nausea, clamminess and increased sweating. Your four “building blocks” to a healthy heart are: 1) stop smoking, 2) eat a heart healthy diet, 3) get regular...

...Impacts of Health Reform on Women’s Reproductive Health Stephanie Bucher COMM/215 January 10, 2015 Linda Camp In March of 2010, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law by President Obama. This federal law intended to make health insurance more affordable and more readily accessible to citizens and legal residents of the United States. (Salganicoff, 2014). The Affordable Care Act benefits all of the citizens of the United States, and it has been especially beneficial to women's health issues. It has been said to be the "greatest advance for women's health in a generation" (Health Reform is Making a Difference is Women's Lives, 2012). The passing of the Affordable Care Act will allow approximately 6.8 million low-income woman to gain access to health insurance. (Levy, 2012). Women have faced discrimination in health care for generations and the Affordable Care Act has put provisions in place to address and fix this long-standing problem. ("Why The Affordable Care Act Matters For Women: Coverage of Women's Preventive Services, Including Contraception", 2012) Before the passing of the Affordable Care Act, women faced many obstacles when trying to seek care. One in Four women of reproductive age lacked health coverage, and what is especially shocking is that four out of ten poor women of childbearing age were uninsured. (Gold, 2009). These numbers are unacceptable, and most Americans believe that change needs to happen. Since the law passed, many substantial...

...Procrastination in the Workplace Joshua A. Robbins COMM/215 Essentials of College Writing August 29, 2011 Kimberly Shinabery Procrastination in the Workplace Efficiency in the work environment is the key to a businesses’ success. That efficiency comes down to the work ethic of the employees every one of whom is hired, to perform a specific task. Sometimes this is not the case. Putting assigned tasks off and not being thorough enough in regular duties will lead to work being incomplete when it comes to a given deadline. This is sloppy and unprofessional work. Even though life happens, such as family issues, bill problems, car trouble, or any other act of God, there is no excuse for not performing the duties for which employees are hired, because when work is not completed in a timely manner, it ultimately costs the company and shows a weakness in leadership within the company for tolerating it. This is unacceptable. As stated in this case study, Carl Robins had only Worked for ABC Inc. for six months and performed well in his first recruitment effort to hire 15 new trainees for Monica Carrolls, the Operations Supervisor, and his boss. This took place in April and his new hires were to start orientation on June 15th. This should have been enough time for Carl to take care of the new hires’ paperwork and arrange for training so that they could begin working in July. Ms. Carrolls did not talk to Carl about everything that needed to be accomplished until May 15th...

...Training and Pre-Planning Is Key Jason Rogers COMM/215 28 May 2012 Cecelia Weber Training and Pre-Planning Is Key Introduction In my case study, Carl Robbins, a campus recruiter for ABC, Inc., has been made aware of multiple issues a couple weeks before the new hire orientation that he scheduled. Given that the ABC campus recruiter, Carl Robbins, had six months of experience and was developing difficulties with the pre-planning for his new hire orientation, I conclude that the company ABC needs to provide better training to personnel, improve conference room reservation procedures, and provide a checklist to recruiters for new hire packets. Background In early April, Carl Robins successfully recruited 15 new hires to work for Monica Carrols. He has only been working for ABC, Inc. for six months, and this was his first recruitment mission. He scheduled a new hire orientation that would take place on June 15 because he wanted the new hires to start working by July. On May 15, Monica contacted him in reference to the training schedule, orientation manuals, and other issues that involved the recruits he hired in April. Carl reassured Monica that everything would be done on time in accordance with the planned schedule. After Memorial Day, Carl decided to look over the new trainee files to make sure all the paperwork was completed before orientation. He then realized that a couple of the recruits did not have their applications completed and their transcripts were not on...

...Randi Brooks Comm 215 MINIMUM WAGE, MINIMAL EXPENSES In North Carolina, minimum wage is set to the federal minimum of $7.25 per hour, which is obtained by using a "Cost of Living Formula". (N.A.) Establishments such as fast food restaurants, casual eateries, coffee shops, and those with sales associate positions are among those that start their employees at minimum wage. So far, we see that sales associates who are required to do minimal tasks, provide customer service, wait tables, or serve coffee are among those who earn a minimum wage paycheck. For years there has been much ado among people of the minimum wage class, and those slightly above it, sparking controversy over the feeling that the minimum wage is not set high enough. However, as someone who was very recently counted in that class, I must strongly disagree. From 2011 to 2014 I had various jobs in the food service and customer service industries, all at minimum wage except for one or two of those, and often holding more than one job at a time. My experience and skills that I had gathered eventually afforded me a higher paycheck, but not by much. During my time at these various establishments, I met a variety of different people; from teenagers, young and old mothers, and single people just trying to support themselves, even people who had previously been in jail. I learned from these people (and their attitudes while working) that they did not value their jobs. The famous line among minimum wage employees...

Carl has hired 15 new trainees to work for Monica Carroll, the Operations Supervisor. The new employees were hired in April and have been promised to be ready by July. With two weeks left until the assigned training date, Carl began to review his hires’ documents. He noticed a host of problems: missing transcripts, incomplete applications, and drug screenings have not taken place. Carl then reviewed his own materials and found even more problems. He had only three copies of the training manuals he needed, and each manual was missing multiple pages. Frustrated and unsure of what his next move was, Carl decided to go for a quick walk. He decided he would check out the training room he had scheduled for orientation and found Joe, from technology services, setting up computer terminals. Carl reviewed the scheduling log and found that Joe had scheduled the training room...
