Coming of Age In this paper I will give you an overview of 2 interviews that conducted with two adults on their experiences of 'coming of age'. The interviews that I conducted with them was based on their experiences during their adolescent years of becoming the adult they are today. I will compare the two interviewee’s experiences and relate them to one another. I will also relate their experience to Erikson’s Theory. The first person I interviewed was Brad Young. He is a 33 year old Caucasian male. I asked Brad “how old were you when you feel you became an adult”. Brad told me “I was 25, I found out my girlfriend was pregnant, so it then that I realized I need to buy a house and move out of my parent’s home.” I then clarified with Brad that it was not a gradual process for him then? He told me “kind of, but becoming a father made me grow up real fast.” I asked Brad how he identifies his believes and values today? He told me “I get most of them form my parents, but someone them I get from my wife’s family as well. We have blended our two families into one.” I then asked Brad if he is comfortable with the adult that he has become. Brad told me “Yes, I have job that pays the bills. I also have a wife and a kid that loves me, I can’t complain.

The next person I interviewed was Joanna Dailey. Joanna is a 31 year old Caucasian woman. I asked Joanna how she was when she became an adult. She told me “I would have to say 22 years old. I had just complete college, got married and bought a house.” I asked Joanna if she felt it was a gradual process or sudden process. She told me “I feel it was a gradual process because I was preparing for it my entire life.” I asked Joanna how she identifies her believes and values today? She told me “I get my values and believes from my family. I have a very large and close family. They have guided me and help me though so much of my life.” I then asked Joanna if she is comfortable with the person she has become today. She told me “yes, I feel that I’m a strong role model for my daughters just as my mother was for me.”

Some similarities that I observed between the two interviewees are that they both were about the same age when they felt they became adults. Yes one was 22 and the other was 25 but would still say that there were similar in age. Another similarity that I found was that they both embraced becoming an adult and the both are satisfied with their lives.

One difference I found between the two interviews was the Joanna felt it was a gradual process to becoming an adult and even stated that “I was preparing for it my entire life”. I find that to be a very bold statement. In comparison Brad felt that it was very sudden for him when he became an adult. I have to wonder if this just may be the difference between male and females.

Erikson's theory is a powerful theory. He feels that we develop in eight different stages and in order to move from one state to the next you have to be able complete the previous stage. Erikson's theory, he feels that we are individual and we become who we are form what we learn, what we see or what is taught to us and not from genetics. Erikson believed that Life is a series of lessons and challenges which help us to grow. I see from my interview with Joanna it is very much true to her as she talked about how much her family has shown her and made her the woman she is today.

Immigration and Education

...In this paper, I want to focus on Immigrant Students in Secondary Schools. As a previous high school immigrant when I first arrived in United States, I have experience numerous difficulties in school that I would never forget. In addition, I believe immigrant students of secondary school can face major difficulties in learning English and succeeding in school. Since these students do not have a lot of time than elementary students to learn English, and they have to pass several test that require English skill such as the ACT and SAT. Above all, most secondary school texts and materials require a sufficient English reading ability to understand, which will even make learning experience becoming even tougher for high school immigrant. Before going into detail, lets take a look at the statistics of the United States’ immigration in the past few decades. According to U.S Bureau of the Census 1997a statistic, over a million immigrants, legal and illegal, entering the United States each year. And since the passage of the Immigration Act of 1965, which eliminated national origin quotas. Europe is no longer the main sources of newcomers to the United States but instead of Asia and Latin America. The largest groups come from Mexico, China, Cuba, and Vietnam. In the fall of 1997, 9 million (about one in five) elementary and secondary school students had a foreign born parents. With over 90% of recent immigrants coming from non English speaking countries, schools are increasingly...

Cupid and Psyche

...The most pleasant and delectable tale of the marriage of Cupid and Psyches. There was sometimes a certaine King, inhabiting in the West parts, who had to wife a noble Dame, by whom he had three daughters exceeding fair; of whom the two elder were of such comly shape and beauty, as they did excell and pass all other women living, whereby they were thought worthily to deserve the praise and commendation of every person, and deservedly to be preferred above the residue of the common sort. Yet the singular passing beauty and maidenly majesty of the youngest daughter did so farre surmount and excell then two, as no earthly creature could by any meanes sufficiently expresse or set out the same. By reason wherof, after the fame of this excellent maiden was spread about in every part of the City, the Citisens and strangers there beeing inwardly pricked by the zealous affection to behold her famous person, came daily by thousands, hundreths, and scores, to her fathers palace, who was astonied with admiration of her incomparable beauty, did no less worship and reverence her with crosses, signes, and tokens, and other divine adorations, according to the custome of the old used rites and ceremonies, than if she were the Lady Venus indeed, and shortly after the fame was spread into the next cities and bordering regions, that the goddess whom the deep seas had born and brought forth, and the froth of the waves had nourished, to the intent to show her high magnificencie and divine power...

...think so. Last week Brian Tempest, the former CEO and current “chief mentor” at Ranbaxy Laboratories, told an industry gathering that the growth of India’s below-25 population “is going to act as a secret weapon in the future,” according to this report in the Hindu. Tempest went on to take a jab at China, saying that slower Chinese population growth would put the Middle Kingdom at a disadvantage. Says Tempest, “the one-child policy in China will play a spoilsport.” The logic is simple. Fast population growth equals more young people, and more young people equals a more dynamic work force. According to the Indian Express, citing India’s Ministry of Labour and Employment, India already has an advantage over more advanced economies. The median age in India in 2000 was 24, compared to 30 in China, 38 in Europe and 41 in creaky old Japan. However, most of those Indians live in the countryside, and it’s no secret that India’s rural population is not sharing in the boom enjoyed by people in other parts of the country. In the past, Asiatech blog readers have written in to debate the merits of India’s development model versus China’s, and the topic of population growth has come up a lot. I’m no fan of China’s one-child policy, and I definitely am not advocating that India adopt anything like it. (Aside from the obvious human-rights problems associated with the policy, some experts argue that the slowdown of China’s population growth came before it even went into effect. For instance, see...

Venturillo IV-Rutherford September 2013 BIOPESTICIDAL EFFECT OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF CHILI PEPPER ON GOLDEN KUHOL (POMACEA CANALICULATA) INTRODUCTION A who’s who of biopesticide is therefore of concern to us all. If we are going to live intimately with these chemicals formulating them within the plants and then eventually eating them, taking them into the very marrow of our bones, isn’t it like digging our own grave? On today’s status quo one of the major problems in the Philippines is about health, and one of the main cause of this is about what we eat, which as we can see chemical products are abundant in the Philippines. Rice is an everyday consumption of Filipino’s diet which is believed healthy for our body and abundant throughout the Philippines, but what if shortage of this production is experience because of pests invading towards Philippine rice fields. Believe it or not, this healthy is now considered insalubrious facing the fact that chemicals that are practiced towards the plants which serves as pesticide against kuhol will also harm our body, because farmers have no choice but to use chemical pesticide to eliminate these pests, is there? Before the introduction of chemical pesticides our native kuhol was a good source of...

If the creative, protective and destructive forces are embedded in the all-Powerful Time recognised as the great KALAPURUSHA in the astrological literature, then will it not be reasonable to study the influences of the various energies issued from the solar globe and from the other globes dependent upon the Sun for their supply of all vital energies and reflected by...
