Cancer, the word that everyone in the world is terrified of hearing but everyone has experience with. These days everyone has had a mom, dad, brother, sister, friend, or relative who has been diagnosed with some form of cancer. Some of us have been lucky enough to get to support our survivors while others are left with memories of those loved ones with whom they have lost. Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer that has led to the heartbreak of millions in the United States because they got the news that they or someone they knew had been diagnosed. Being the second most common form of cancer among men in the United States and the second leading cause of death, prostate cancer is a big topic of discussion (Sieve and Vonne, 2015). …show more content…
The gland is walnut sized and is located below the bladder in front of the rectum in males. The prostate also surrounds the urethra, the tube that encloses urine. The function of the prostate gland is to produce semen, thus carrying the male’s sperm (Sieve and Vonne, 2015). While prostate cancer typically begins in the prostate, it can spread anywhere in the body. Metastasis occurs when prostate tumor cells break away and travel through the bloodstream and lymphatic system to the other areas of the body. Prostate cancer is commonly metastasized in the lymph nodes, bones, lungs, liver, and the brain.
