SHORT TALKS:-
A Short Talk is a short presentation given at a conference or similar forum. Unlike other presentations, short talks last only a few minutes and several will usually be delivered in a single period by different speakers.
• Example:- o Personalized short talk is talk in which participants usually discuss one topic. o A short talk in which response is collected to some questionnaire and then findings are reported. o A short talk given to report some statistics on some topic collected from participants.
PRESENTATIONS:-
Presentation is the practice of showing and explaining the content of a topic to an audience or learner. Presentations come in nearly as many forms as there are life situations. In the business world, there are sales presentations, informational and motivational presentations, first encounters, interviews, briefings, status reports, image-building, and of course, the inevitable training sessions.
• Example:- o A presentation given by a sales person about his/her product about to launch. o A presentation given in some meeting to explain the matter under discussion. o A presentation given by students in colleges/universities which is usually a part of their projects.
BRIEFING:-
A conference before a major event to announce/agree upon the major information and actions necessary to complete the mission.
• Example:- o Briefing given by coach or captain of a team before the starting of some game. o Briefing given by commander or head before some military operation. o Briefing given by a teacher to students before the start of some competition.
INSTRUCTIONS:-
Differentiated instruction (sometimes referred to as differentiated learning) involves providing students with different avenues to acquiring content; to processing, constructing, or making sense of ideas; and to developing teaching materials so that all students within a classroom can learn effectively, regardless of differences in ability.
• Example:- o Instructions given to students by examiner before the start of some exam. o Instructions given to students in lab before the start of some lab work. o Instructions given to students in class before the start of some major work.
DISCUSSIONS:-
Discussion can be defined as an extended communication (often interactive) dealing with some particular topic.
• Example:- o Discussion between two women on some household topic. o Discussion between two friends on latest fashion. o Discussion between two men on politics.
GROUP DISCUSSION:-
A discussion among participants who have an agreed (serious) topic.
• Examples:- o Discussion between teachers on how to improve teaching techniques. o Discussion between board of governors of some company on some major deal. o Discussion between participants of some game show on some random topic given to them as a task.
DEBATES:-
Debate or debating is a formal method of interactive and representational argument. Debate is a broader form of argument. In debating, one side often prevails over the other side by presenting a superior "context" and/or framework of the issue, which is far more subtle and strategic.
• Example:- o Competitive debate is an organized to argue with other teams, competing at the local, national, and international level. o Extemporaneous debate is a style that involves no planning in advance and two teams with a first and second speaker. While a majority of judges will allow debaters to cite current events and various statistics (of which opponents may question the credibility) the only research permitted are one or more articles given to the debaters along with the resolution shortly before the debate. o Impromptu debate is a relatively informal style of debate, when compared to other highly structured formats. The topic for the debate is given to the participants between fifteen and twenty minutes before the debate starts. The debate format is relatively simple; each team member of each side speaks for five minutes, alternating sides
MEETINGS:-
In a meeting, two or more people come together to discuss one or more topics, often in a formal setting. A meeting is a gathering of two or more people that has been convened for the purpose of achieving a common goal through verbal interaction, such as sharing information or reaching agreement
• Example:- o Staff meeting, typically a meeting between a manager and those that report to the manager. o Team meeting, a meeting among colleagues working on various aspects of a team project. o Board meeting, a meeting of the Board of directors of an organization.
SYMPOSIUM:-
A meeting or conference for the public discussion of some topic especially one in which the participants form an audience and make presentations.
• Examples:- o A symposium held to discuss some political event. o A symposium held between some participants. o A symposium held related to some educational topic.
SEMINAR:-
Seminar is, generally, a form of academic instruction, either at an academic institution or offered by a commercial or professional organization. It has the function of bringing together small groups for recurring meetings, focusing each time on some particular subject, in which everyone present is requested to actively participate. This is often accomplished through an ongoing Socratic dialogue with a seminar leader or instructor, or through a more formal presentation of research.
• Examples:- o Seminar given in college/university on some educational background. o Seminar given by some organization or group to facilitate students. o Seminar given by universities usually before the start of new academic session to new students to brief them about their educational policies.
