...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Jennifer Jones GEN/200 July 18, 2011 Lisa Foster Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper “Everyone has some things that they do well and other things that they find difficult. To learn successfully, you need to maximize your strengths and compensate your weaknesses.” (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007, p. 38). According from keys to college studying. Analyze the statement. People highlight their strengths to others because it will present a person’s elevated value in a particular situation or environment. Individuals rarely expose their weaknesses to others because it could deem them as “weak” or incompetent. Learning new information can expose individuals to some issues if their learning styles differ from the method used to help them obtain the new information. There are three learning styles and three different personality types that will be discussed. As well as developing strategies for them. The first learning style is taking notes. This is a traditional method use in the classroom and also in the workplace. If the individual do not want to rely on memory alone and have pen and paper handy, this learning style would work. For the student who has trouble studying by rewriting notes, may simply want to try a new strategy by using highlighters on the material instead. The second learning style is study groups. Study groups are very common in and out of the classroom. By using this style, this will help...

...2007, p. 38). His belief is that every person in the world has at least eight intelligences, although some individuals develop those intelligences more than others. Three of those intelligences are verbal-linguistic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Verbal-linguistic is a person’s skill of communicating whether it is through reading, writing, talking, or listening. In a group setting, this type of individual would be able to teach or assist other team members if something is not understood. Their understanding of the language or word meaning comes easily. A person who is strongest in the interpersonal area would be able to collaborate and communicate either in written form or by speaking. This person would have good group communication skills. An individual with a strong strength in intrapersonal intelligence relies on his or her own thinking and has a better grasp of himself or herself in relation to other people. This type of person can think on a higher level. Communicating and collaborating can be difficult if an individual does not understand the dynamics of mixing multiple intelligences or personalities. One strategy to help overcome this is that everyone works on tasks in his or her strong areas. Typically, tasks are easier to complete because the understanding and willingness to put forth more effort is present....

...Research Strategy Paper Jennifer Smith University of Phoenix {text:soft-page-break} There are many problems that students are plagued with in today's ever growing quest for an education. Students lives range from taking care of their families to professional careers that hold positions, like Chief Executive Officer of large corporations. Time management will help a student to procrastinate less and ensure that his or her assignments get completed in a timely manner. Reaching goals, both long-term and short-term and reducing stress are just a couple of benefits gained through effectively managing time. Researching causes of poor time management will allow a student to find the tools needed to correct the problem, thus solving time constraints. Many places offer information in regard to learning positive time management. For students just starting out, the internet is a good place to start a search. Even though there may be times the amount of materials is overwhelming. While entering the subject of time management into the search bar, the internet will pull-up many websites pertaining only to the topic. There are sites that are general and only give basic descriptions of problems relating to time management, while suggesting vague remedies. Sources beyond the internet offer detailed information in regard to time management and allow a student to see in advance what he or she will be learning. Libraries are filled with books and magazines that contain articles about...

...Strategies for effective communication and collaboration GEN 200 April 5, 2011 Strategies for effective communication and collaboration Webster’s dictionary defines communications as “sending, giving, or exchanging information and ideas,” which is often expressed nonverbally and verbally. Nonverbal communication is the act of speaking without using words. Body language, facial expressions and general appearance, reveals the true inner feelings of people. Verbal communication involves using words and the tone and inflections of the voice can tell the mood a person is in. Collaboration is the process in which two or more people work together to realize a shared goal. The fundamentals of effective collaboration are good leadership, resources, teamwork, and understanding each person’s role relative to the final goal. To communicate and collaborate effectively team members must develop strategies that fully take advantage of the learning styles and compliment the personality types of the members. A learning style is the way the mind takes in and processes information. This process differs for everybody. Howard Gardner has broken learning styles into eight multiple intelligences based on individuals strengths and weaknesses. It is important to know and understand a person’s learning style before employing strategies to make use of it. A person with intrapersonal learning style is self-driven, assertive, and understands himself in relation to others. They reason...

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper As we know that everyone is unique and different, the same goes for the uniqueness and difference in their learning styles and the role of their personality type, when it comes to learning communicating and collaborating within a team. That is why different strategies for effective communications and collaborations need to be created for groups of individuals with different learning styles and different personality types. According to the book, Becoming a Lifelong Learner (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007) three of the many different learning styles are: interpersonal, intrapersonal and verbal-linguistic. Beginning with one of the different learning styles, in specific the verbal-linguistic style, a good strategy for effective communications and collaborations with this learner, is to make sure you recognize the different characteristics of this learning style. For example students with this learning style like to write, they enjoy telling stories, they like to read, they express themselves clearly, they are good in negotiating, and like to discuss topics that interest them. Based on this, a verbal-linguistic learner will require assignments that require writing papers, and book reading, just to mention a few. On another learning style like the intrapersonal learner, some of the characteristics of this student are that he needs quiet time to think, this student is interested in self improvement, he understands his thoughts...

People with linguistic intelligence love and are talented with words. They enjoy reading, writing and learning languages. They have an ability to teach and explain things to others. They learn best by reading, taking notes and going to lectures. I can say that when I took the pathways to learning assessment my score for verbal linguistic was a 15. I do like to read, write, and tell stores I just don’t do it a lot. Visual Spatial intelligence is the ability to understand spatial relationships and to perceive and create images like visual art, graphic design, charts, and maps. People with visual intelligence are very artistic. They are very aware of their surroundings and are good at remembering images. They have a great sense of direction. ...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Nizar Ashlak GEN 200 February 28, 2011 Facilitator: Coleen Riaza Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Individuals are unique in nature; no two are alike, same as a finger print or DNA. The need to learn, explore, and better ourselves we need to communicate with each other to satisfy this need. Since people are different, each one has his/her own personality. That personality and situation will dictate the method of communications, or the methods needed to present a idea or project to another person or group. The understanding of how different personalities interact with one another will allow to us to figure out which the best way to communicate and relay information. There are a lot of different personalities in which some categorized as Organizer, Adventurer, and Giver (Carol Carter, 2007). Learning styles are unique too same as the personalities some of these styles are Logical Mathematical, Interpersonal, and Verbal linguistic (Carol Carter, 2007). Before we get into more details about different personalities and learning styles, we have to ask a question Are we open minded to try to understand different people with different background, learning styles, traditions, religion, etc… Can we give a person the benefit of the doubt before we jump to conclusion? All these come to play on how we communicate. To talk more details about the different styles of learning and different personalities as listed above...

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Gen/200: Foundations for General Education and Professional Success November 6, 2010 The assignments for week two were both enlightening and somewhat frustrating as I took the learning and personality assessments. Initially frustrating because I tried to answer the questions honestly, but as I tallied my scores, the results didn’t quite seem right. I took the assessment two more times over the course of the week and obtained different results each time. I then realized, there is no “perfect score.” As stated in course materials “First, remember that any assessment is simply a snapshot, a look at who you are at a given moment. Your answers can, and will, change as you and the circumstances around you change”. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007, pp. 38). Once I got my mind around that, I was able to gather useful insight into my personal learning style and personality, and later, those of my team. Through the assessments, I discovered that I am an Intrapersonal type learner, and my dominate personality strength is Thinker (although it was very close with two other traits). I believe both these traits are accurate in a learning or team environment, as I tend to be introverted, independent, and analytical. I did realize that I also have many traits of other types, some better developed than others. So it was armed with this knowledge that I attended our first team meeting. The assessments the other members of my team brought...

...Developing Strategies There are a few strategies that can be helpful for creating effective communication and collaboration among certain individuals. These individuals come from a diverse background, and they have learning styles and personality traits that vary. It is a hard task to meet each learning style during one project, but individuals need to learn to adapt. For example, a visual learner must learn to adapt to writing notes during a lecture. In this paper I will develop strategies to help me, as a logical learner/thinker, communicate and collaborate well with other learning/personality styles. The Visual Learner The learning style assessment states that I am a logical learner; this means that I like to brainstorm ideas and create an outline. Being in an online class, I would be able to create an outline of ideas that the team members have come up with and post them on the computer for everyone to see. Individuals are able to post questions and responses on the computer; this is a strategy that will help visual learners keep up with what is going on. The Kinesthetic Learner A kinesthetic learner must be able to work everything through hands-on experience. I believe allowing this learner to be the one to type up the final version for an assignment would be beneficial. This will allow the individual to read the final paper while typing it up; therefore gaining knowledge from hands-on experience. The Interpersonal Learner This learner will definitely benefit...

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Sonya Harriest University of Phoenix GEN 200 Pamela Allen August 5, 2009 Communication and Collaboration Communication is being able to effectively translate information from one person to another. Learning styles is the way a person learn things in a form that they may understand. “ When we communicate, we assume that the person to whom we are speaking perceives, judges, thinks, and reasons the way we do. This is not always the case” (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, S., 2007, p. 298). A personality type is the way a person may think, act or do certain things. The way of resolving conflicts is how a person may handle a certain situation when things get out of control. Collaboration is when two or more people are getting together to discuss a certain problem or issue that may have taken place or going to take place, or to talk about a certain project or function. My communication style is to talk with someone in person, or face-to-face is my first preference of communicating. The next alternative I prefer is, would be over the telephone. The reason I prefer face-to-face is because I am able to express myself and see the other person expressions. The other person and I are able to see each other. I feel as though us seeing each other, we are able to see one another’s facial expression and body language. Talking on the phone, allows each of us to hear one another’s voice and allow you to project the mood you are...

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Shameika Johnson GEN 200 June 7, 2010 Kristine Faultner Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Communicating and collaborating in a group of strangers can be challenging at times because of different learning styles and personality types. No two people will have the same opinion on every subject because everyone comes from different backgrounds, environments, and beliefs. Our backgrounds have a big influence on how our personalities are and how we all learn different information. There are several different learning styles but three that stand out to me the most are visual/spatial, verbal/linguistic, and intrapersonal. People who are visual/spatial learners are great at recognizing relationships between different objects. They draw maps, charts, graphs, and develop graphic organizers for new material. People who are verbal/linguistic learners generally remember definitions easily, are great teachers and can convince most people into doing anything for them. A lot of the time they will rewrite notes, use highlighters and read different materials and rephrase them into their own way understanding it. You also have some people who are intrapersonal learners. These people are better at expressing their feelings, visualizing information, keeping journals and often tend to study in quiet places. My strategy for this group of learning styles put together would be to use a lot of visual aids like charts...

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper General Studies 200 Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper To function effectively in a group of individuals you must develop strategies for communicating and collaborating within a group that have different learning styles and personality types. To do so you will need to know your own learning styles and personality types. My top three learning styles in order were: Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Verbal-Linguist. Interpersonal skills are often referred to as possessing people skills. Some skills related to the Interpersonal style are, seeing things from others’ perspectives, cooperating within a group, and communicating verbally and nonverbally. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007, Key 2.2 How to put your Multiple Intelligences to work for you.). The one style that sticks out is seeing things from others’ perspectives. I can put myself in others’ shoes. To communicate effectively I know many factors go into making a person who they are; ethnic background, where they live, and how they were raised. When communicating and collaborating within a group I can understand different personalities and I am able to work supportively within in the group. My second learning style was Intrapersonal. The skills related to this style are: evaluating own thinking, being aware of and expressing feelings, understanding self in relation to others, and thinking and reasoning on higher levels. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007, Key...

...To learn about communication and being able to work with other people, you should learn each person’s learning style and personality style. There are three different learning styles: visual learners, auditory learners, and tactile/kinesthetic learners. To better understand each style we will look more closely at each individual sytle. First, lets look at visual learners. Visual learners learn best through seeing. Visual learners learn best by seeing facial expressions and by seeing body language. They also tend to sit in the front of classrooms or meetings to avoid distractions (example: people’s bodies blocking their views). Visual learners do better when they have displays they can see (example: videos, illustrated textbooks, and handouts). Visual learners usually take very detailed notes during lectures or discussions. This way they are able to take in and remember more information. The second type of learning style is auditory learners. Auditory learners learn best through listening. Auditory learners tend to talk things through, listen to lectures, listening to what other people say, and verbal discussions. Because they learn through listening, written information does not help them until it is voiced out loud. They also tend to use a tape recorder during lectures so that they can re-play the tape later and better absorb the information. The third type of learning style is tactile/kinesthetic learners. Tactile/kinesthetic learners learn best through touching, moving...

...Preparing the Personality Spectrum helped me understand my strengths and weakness in the learning area. According to this assessment my learning pathway are verbal-linguistic and interpersonal, I enjoy telling stories, writing, and reading I like to negotiate and I like to discuss topics that interest me, I also like to work with others, people come to me for help to settle conflicts, I like to spend time with my friends, I make people feel comfortable and understand them, and most of all I enjoy helping others. In my personality spectrum I concluded that I am more of a Thinker and a Giver, but I am not an adventurers or an organizer. I am analytical and logical, explicit; objective I do not like taking a new adventure I like to think about what my action should be before I decide to act. This could be a good and bad thing because I do not give myself opportunity to explore new areas or places in my life. I am a caring, emotional, giving, spiritual, romantic, peacemaker, trusting, adaptable, passionate, harmonious this personality help us in different areas of our lives. The emotional stability of the group will help the group to have bearer grades and succeed in every challenge they get there minds together. A group of people with all this different virtuous, maybe you lack of some this virtuous but when we come together we can advance in different projects, even the most complete projects can be achieve by the group.
