1. The breakdown in the communication happened when the therapist asked Julie whether her parent was an alcoholic. The therapist did not do well in the receiving and understanding stage. She did not seem to focus on Julie and she just presumed that Julie's parent was an alcoholic without thinking about Julie's perspective. Instead, she just interpreted the message from her point of view rather than Julie's point of view. She kept on insisting that Julie's parent was an alcoholic throughout the session.
2. The therapist could have tried to see it from Julie's perspective and support her. She also could have not interjected with her own problems, like when she interrupted Julie and started talking about an alcoholic parent that she encountered.
