Healthcare communication technologies are rapidly advancing. Patients are using the internet to communicate with their primary care physicians. New modes of communication in the health care arena gives the patients a way to voice concerns that may arise after their visit with the primary care physician. Utilizing all avenues of communication allows the patient and physician to develop a strong rapport and it makes it easier for the patient to adhere to the treatment options advised by their primary care physician. One of the most innovating modes of communication is electronic medical records. Electronic medical records (EMR) systems, the replacement for handwritten medical records, are beneficial for both the patient and the medical professional.
Benefits of Electronic Medical Records Electronic medical records have replaced patient files stored in medical offices and hospital records rooms. Conversion from paper medical record to electronic record provides benefits to the patient. The electronic medical record allows the patients information to be securely accessed by the physician at anytime including home, office, hospital, and other medical facilities anywhere in the world. Within the EMR, the patient’s medical data including demographic and insurance information as well as listings of diagnosis, medications, allergies, immunizations and other vital medical information are precisely and succinctly organized, using standardized terminology (Huckestein, 2012). Patients will also have the ability to update information without the usual filling out new forms that replace old ones. Now the information can be updated with the opening to file and editing the information to add or delete necessary information.

...Week 1 Effective Communication Paper CJA/304 The world as we know it would not exist or function properly without communication. Being able to communicate with someone isn’t as easy as most people would think because there’re many steps and rules that we all must follow in order to properly communicate with others in society. There are many forms of communication that can be found all over but the main two that most people often chose to go with are verbal and non-verbal. Both contain very important steps that we all must follow in some ways they are similar and other ways they can be very different. When you are talking to another person and trying to get them to understand the point of the information that you both are discussing it is known as verbal. When you are speaking it is very important to make sure that you use words that are clear in meaning and easy for the other person to break down and understand quickly. The way in which you chose to deliver your words is very important when trying to talk to another person. If you want someone to realize that what you have to say is important you will speak clearly and somberly. This lets the other person know that they need to pay close attention so they won’t miss anything that is being said. When you want someone to zero in on the positive aspect of what you are saying you will want to deliver your message in a lighter way. These are all ways you can control what is known as the tone of your voice...

...Communication is an art as well as a skill and affects all we do. Whatever the forum or platform used, communication is how we express information, thoughts and concerns. Healthcare communication is an entity all its own and requires careful study and understanding. In no other type of interaction can miscommunication or misunderstanding have grave consequences if information is not sent and processed correctly. According to “Impact of Communication in Healthcare” (2011), “Research evidence indicates that there are strong positive relationships between a healthcare team member’s communication skills and a patient’s capacity to follow through with medical recommendations, self-manage a chronic medical condition, and adopt preventive health behaviors (para. 1). Learning and applying the art of healthcare communication encompasses thorough understanding, establishes relevancy with both the professional and layperson, affects health outcomes, while having profound influence on therapeutic contact. Before asserting healthcare communication it is necessary to explore the definition of communication itself. Northouse & Northouse (1998) offer human communication is the exchange of ideas involving the use of language and symbols. In the animal kingdom, however; communication still takes places without the use of spoken language and symbols as the human species knows it but rather utilizes sounds and behaviors. Healthcare communication is much narrower in scale and expresses ideas or concerns...

...Communication Paper Shawanda Donelson SOC/110 March 6, 2010 Jacqui Scott Communication Paper People use verbal and non-verbal communication daily. Some people who are hearing impaired use special equipment and they also use sign language. People communicate many different ways, one way would be through telephone, and another way would be through face- to-face interaction. The differences between verbal and non-verbal communication is a way for people to communicate face-to-face. I am just going to name a few key components in verbal communication are sound, words, speaking, and language. Non-verbal communication is communication without speaking words. An example of non-verbal communication is facial expressions, eyes, and touching. The challenges in communicating between genders will be that men and women may use the same words to describe a situation but expresses it differently. For example, a woman says to a man that he never talks to her when he is feeling depressed or when something bothering him as a statement that she is frustrated not knowing if she has done something wrong. He interprets that as a statement of a fact. I think someone of the opposite gender understands similar information differently than I because I look at a situation at all different angles. I will try every way possible to solve a problem. For example, A man can do whatever he wants to do in a relationship whether it be good or bad such as if it be cheating or simply...

...Communication Paper Roderick Mims SOC/110 April 16, 2014 Erin Walerko Communication Paper Communication is vital in our ever day life. Some form of communication is used by each of us on a daily basis, whether verbal or nonverbal. Communication can be challenging and the sender does not always send the information correctly so the receiver will not receive it correctly. Also, not all communication is good or effective. Good communication ensures that a message is correctly and clearly stated and received and understood by one or more people. Usually, people will communicate verbally by using words, either by face to face or by phone. Sometimes we choose to communicate nonverbally by using hand gestures, body movement or facial expressions. An example of using verbal communication is by having a simple conversation using words. An example of using nonverbal communication is by shaking hands with an individual or waving hello to them. As you can see, the difference between the two is that verbal has sound and is most effective because you specifically convey your message with words. Nonverbal is effective as well but has no sound and may take a little more finesse when trying to provide the meaning accurately. Sometimes there are challenges when trying to communicate, specifically between genders. We have to consider that male and female brains are wired differently; therefore, we gather and process information differently. According to James and Cinelli (2003) “Communication...

...Effective Communication Paper Effective Communication In the past, I worked as a medical assistant in the cardiology department for a clinic. I am no longer employed there, so I cannot explain what is, at this time, being done at my former job. I can explain what forms of communication we used and what was done when I was employed in the clinic for effective communication. In this paper I will discuss what techniques were used for effective communication, what techniques I found to be ineffective, how they were applied in the health care work place, and how technology impacts effective communication. Effective techniques for sharing information and ideas While working in the health care industry an individual will be faced with constant change in the way they communicate with others, be it a patient, doctor, or an individual across the world. While working in the health care field, I found that the most used forms of communicating with people were emails and phone calls. In addition, I also faxed documents and records. Out of all these forms of communication, I found the most effective way was by phone. I found it more personable and much easier to explain what was going on with a patient. There was a less of a chance for miscommunication because all questions, answers, and concerns could be addressed at one time. An additional way that helps in effective communication is the adaptation of the Electronic Medical Record in the medical field. Using the record makes it...
