Individuals must remember that effective communication is very important when working in a health care organization especially when it concerns the patient’s care. A good example of this organization would be Magnolia Place Health Care. Patient care are faced with many problems because of the lack of communication, difference in culture, the different genders and the lack to communicate properly with the patients that are being serviced. When this problem occurs, it might even affect the way in which many employees are doing their job in their organization. Magnolia Place Health Care deals with many challenges when it comes to communication; and I will be discussing some of them by explaining how their families, caregivers, managers and co-workers influence the different genders and the different cultures.
The Different Genders in females: The Magnolia Place healthcare organization hires both female and males, because their main concern is taking care of their patients and while doing so they will face many problems with communication. Some female employees have a better relationship with their patients, families, managers, and other co-workers because of their communication skills in the Magnolia Place healthcare organization. The majority of females sometimes seem to be more nonverbally expressive, they seem to talk more, they also seem to engage in partnership-building behaviors, and they tell their patients and families more of their personal business than men do (Axia2007). A female seems to take care of their patients and families more than men do because they can sometimes help them through an emotional situation. Females tends to make time for their patients more than males do, even if they do not have the time, because sometimes we be going through the same situation and the patient and their families. Sometimes spending time with the patient and their families makes them feel a whole lot better, because it let them know that somebody cares. I believe that a female feels more comfortable asking a patient and their families’ questions about certain situations than some males do.
The Different Genders in Males: Some males do not communicate as well as females because they do not like to talk about their personal lives, and they certainly do not like to so their emotions to their patients, family members and their co-workers. The majority of the males like to hold their feelings inside, even though sometimes they are miserable. Some males have a real problem taking care of the opposite sex, because sometimes it makes them feel uncomfortable, some of them find it hard to communicate to the opposite sex, because they really do not know how or when to start conservation and sometimes it is just their male ego. When this type of situation happens, it can cause a communication barrier between the employees, their patient, their patient family and co-workers. Some male’s employees feel more comfortable when they are socializing with the same sex, because they can discuss certain situations with other males that they do not feel comfortable discussing with females. Cultures differences can be a problem for people that are involved in a Hospice organization when it comes to communication.
The Culture Differences: The culture differences for individuals can provide effective health communications. It can help raise awareness of healthcare risks and provide solution to help motivate skills that are needed to reduce these risks. “The awareness of multicultural issues and language services is important when working in a health care setting.” Here are some examples, that clients might face from different cultures, which includes, birth rituals, birth controls, blood transfusions, concept of healing, and appropriate behavior for a sick person. Also, be aware that your client may not speak English well enough to communicate with you or understand information that you have given them. This can include peoples that do not speak English, and those who are deaf or hearing impaired It can also help them find support from other people in similar situations, and affect their attitudes. It is very important that we understand the culture differences in the work environment at Magnolia Place Healthcare, because there will always be problems with the employees, families, communication problems with the managers and co-workers. Cultures, values, attitudes and behaviors are characteristics in a society that ultimately and unfortunately reflects our actions towards others despite how we feel.
Improvements:
The way that Magnolia Place healthcare can improve is by making sure that they have effective communication with their employees, patients, the patient’s families, nurses, and other workers at the organization. The healthcare organization need to make sure that they are doing everything that they can by making sure that their employees are matched up with the same sex if possible. They need make sure that all of their employees have the proper training by making sure that they are having training sessions and meeting every two weeks if possible. On every job, there are going to be communication problems, but when this happens, the managers need to make sure that they are doing everything possible to correct the problem.
Conclusion:
People must remember that when they work for a healthcare organization they must think about the needs of the patients. It does not just include taking care of the patient, but also knowing how to make the patient feel comfortable, by taking the time to make sure that they have effective communication with the patient, their families and their co-workers. Although in today’s society we are going to be faced with communication barriers such as different languages, different genders, different cultural beliefs, but we must be prepared and ready to deal with whatever problems or situations that we are faced with.
