Wagga Wagga
Wagga Wagga is a city in south-west New South Wales, situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. It is the largest inland town in New South Wales with a population of about 47,000 people and is the regional centre for the Riverina area, and is an important stopping point as it is almost exactly half way between Sydney and Melbourne. The original inhabitants of Wagga were the Wiradjuri people, but the towns’ founder was Charles Sturt, of whom the main road of the city is named after. Wagga Wagga is home to the Royal Australian Air Force base and the Royal Military Hospital.
The original village had a lot of settling problems, even though it was based on the banks of one of Australia’s largest rivers, it is located in a n alluvial valley, giving its early inhabitants constant trouble with salinity. To make matters worse, it is also located on a flood plain, so the settlers had to deal with this as well as the troubles they had with growing crops and orchards. Wagga Waggas has a temperate climate with hot summers, reaching up to 47 degrees Celsius, and freezing winters with temperatures sometimes hitting as low as -5 degrees Celsius.
The village of Wagga Wagga (Crows Eye) was founded in 1829 by Charles Sturt, and the town quickly grew, reaching a population of 627 by 1949. The population continued to rise steadily, with both a public library and a reservoir built by 1885. Gas lighting was also added around this time, and Wagga was the first inland town in New South Wales to have its streets gas lit. The town suffered serious problems with sanitation, and an abominable stench was rumoured to hang over the town, so a sewage system was installed in 1908.
In 1940, the Royal Air Force base was established near Wagga Wagga, and the town became an important recruitment area for the Australian Army. After a series of major floods in the 1950’s , the government installed protective measures to help the town. In 1971, the College of Advanced Education and the Charles Sturt University merged and formed a campus in Wagga, and since then it has become a major learning centre for rural New South Wales, and in 1993 the city was proclaimed to be the worlds first Rotary Peace City, which is

Community

...really is, however the dictionary defines “community” as “a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage”. A virtual community consists only of people that use their computers as the means of communication; however, they never meet personally. People discuss various ideas, share common interests, and find friends and partners with the help of virtual communities. Virtual communities exist, and there are a lot of them nowadays. People like communicating on-line, thus, virtual communities also have some advantages in comparison with real communities. Both real communities and virtual ones serve the same purpose – communication, which creates lasting relationship between people. There are many obvious distinctions between “real” communities and “virtual” communities. The most noticeable is the difference in communication, including the lack of physical presence within the “virtual” communities. In a “real” community, messages include much unspoken communication, such as body language, which can dramatically change the meaning of the message. “Virtual” communities have nothing more than their words and “emoticons” to portray emotion within their messages. This can be either a benefit or a detriment. Emotion may get in the way of the necessary communication, but it also might be a critical part of the message. The basic idea of a community is a group of people, which is characterized...

This definition was found in Websters Dictonary, however; what about the less talked about communities that appear online? These communities have a lot of the same common interests and make it easier to stay connected with technology whether it is for work or personal interests. Our business is involved in a small tight-knit community online called the International League of Signature Gatherers. Discussions in this group may include upcoming political events, nearby campaigns, and contains references on who to work for amung many other political interests. This site helps our business hire and fire workers as well as a place where we can voice our opinions without being judged. I believe that’s why we consider this social community home. International League of Signature Gatherers was established in 2008 by a fellow petitioner turned manager named Arenza Thigpen, he runs the page listens to comments and concerns and helps if needed to fix problems. I. L.S.G. main purpose is to give information about upcoming political, campaigns and also give contacts for different projects. Community Recreation

...Community and Recreation: Community Recreation Community The Merriam- Webster (2012) defines community as a unified body of individuals with common interests living in a particular area. A community is also a local grouping within which people carry out a full round of life activities. Although families or other groups can sometimes be relatively self-sufficient, most of them do not live in isolation. For many reasons, ranging from economic interdependence to shared cultural values, families and other groups normally join together to form communities. The community, rather than the family, becomes the social setting for most everyday economic, political, religious, educational, recreational and similar activities. As communities become larger and more complex, other types of organizations are often established within the community to perform these various functions. Thus, a community is a type of social organization that is territorially located and provides the setting for dealing with most of the needs and problems of daily living. Communities vary widely in size and complexity. Recreation McLean and Hurd., (2011) defines recreation as a network of public agencies that provide such facilities as parks, playgrounds, aquatic centers, sports fields, and community centers in thousand of cities, towns, and countries. Belonging to Community

...The inherent desire to belong is an integral part of the human condition that affects the way in which we view ourselves and others. Experiences of communities often shape personal identity and decisions to belong and not belong. Max Lucado’s picture book ‘You Are Special’, and Harper Lee’s novel ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ delve into the intricacies of belonging within community. Both texts explore how personal differences can alienate individuals from their community and cause a loss of self-worth. However people often overcome this disconnection to community through experiences of belonging in their own unique identity. Lucado’s ‘You Are Special’ follows the story of a Wemmick (puppet) named Punchinello who lives in a small village, where the same creator carved all the inhabitants. The Wemmicks that excel in fields deemed worthy such as looks, physical and mental ability, are given golden stars, whilst puppets that do not have these characteristics are given blue dots. Punchinello is a puppet that is given many blue dots, due to his lack of skills or looks, alienating him from his small community of puppets. This alienation from his community causes Punchinello’s loss of self-worth, ‘I cant walk fast. I can’t jump. My paint is peeling.’ Lucado uses dialogue to highlight Punchinello’s insecurities due to the predetermined societal rulings of what it means to be beautiful. This idea connects to that of superficial morale and is reiterated through the accumulation of imperfections...

Community Issues

...Many communities have issues that bother or even cause trouble in the community. In my community the thing I most worry about is children safety while playing in the streets. Home appearance is also a big thing not only to the neighbors but to potential buyers. Also lawn care when your lawn is green and others look like deserts. The safety, lawn care, and appearance are an issue in every community that can cause either a place for great living or tension among neighbors. In my community there is a lot of families that like every other community has children that play not only in the yards, sidewalks, and streets. This is a very serious safety issue in my eyes due to the children being un-supervised. Other people in the community speed over the limit posted and children play there and may be hit or injured. Even though the children play in the street it cause a safety risk to drivers that don’t speed or drive wreck less do to the children running in and out of the streets without looking for cars. The children are our future and they need to be protected. When a person is looking to buy a future home they want to see a nice neighborhood that looks respectable and not as if it’s a bad neighborhood. The appearance of a home in my belief can say a lot about the people who live there. Someone who takes care of their home for example pressure washing, not trash in yard, paint nicely applied. Also there are some resident that don’t have the money but the residents should do as...
