Collaborative Learning Community: Phoenix Metropolitan Area

The Phoenix metropolitan area is the fifth largest city in the United States. A major barrier that separates Phoenix from other cities is the county line (Cole, 2013). It sits in a valley that is surrounded by mountains ("Phoenix Mountains," 2013). The only river is the Salt River ("Celebrating Arizona’s," 2012). Phoenix is a multicultural city ("Profile of General," 2012). A phenomenological feature is their affiliation with religious groups. The number one religion is Catholicism ("Phoenix," 2012). Some of the major social interactions include professional sports, golfing, hiking, and colleges ("Phoenix," 2012). Some of the major challenges and barriers are the poor air quality, extreme temperatures in the summer, and dust storms.
The values and beliefs of the people are from the viewpoint of multicultural diversity. Almost every ethnic group is represented. There are many synagogues and mega churches that meet the religious needs of all the various religious groups. Health promotion is evident by the importance of education. A relevant nursing diagnosis spiritual distress related to separation from religious and cultural ties. There are twenty colleges and Universities ("Phoenix," 2012). Phoenix respects and values diversity, this is evidenced by the number of different cultures that are represented ("Phoenix Vision," 2013). Tourism is a large industry, so community members spend money to support it.
The health perception is good. A predominate heath issue is respiratory complications due to poor air quality. A common nursing diagnosis for this patient population would be risk for
