Public health is a not only a national issue but a world-wide issue, that affects all individuals regardless of age, color, nationality, beliefs, orientation or any other factor which makes us all different. Even though all of us come from different walks of life, understanding public health is essential to our overall wellbeing. Public health is much bigger than taking care of ourselves and doing what we need to do to have proper hygiene and good health. To understand what public health truly is, we must look at the definition, how it has developed over the years and what types of jobs contribute to public health.
What is Public Health? Over the years the definition of Public Health has changed many times; however the most recent definition of Public Health is “the science of protecting and improving the health of families and communities through prevention and detection and control of infectious diseases. (CDC Foundation, 2016). No matter how many definitions there have been or will be, each person and community have their focus on one or many areas of public health. For some, it may be vaccinations and for others, it may be proper sanitation. No matter you live or what your lifestyle is, public health affects everyone. Public health professionals work to prevent or stop recurring issues from happening by “implementing educational programs, recommending policies, administering services and conducting research (CDC Foundation, 2016). The overall purpose of public health is to promote, prevent and improve the health of all individuals, young to old, through healthy lifestyles, disease research, injury prevention and detection, as well as control of infectious diseases (Riegelman, (2015).

...Kayla Pryce Professor Clark March 25, 2016 Newsletters I decided to analyze the Business of Fashion newsletter. I really enjoyed the components contained within the newsletter. I was able to see the magazine elements and blog similarities. A newsletter is a bulletin issued periodically to the members of a society, business, or organization. It is generally about one main topic that is of interest to its subscribers. General features of newsletters include news and upcoming events of the related organization, as well as contact information for general studies. Newsletters are the most mis-used marketing tool around. The Business of Fashion use of newsletters are very effective. The Business of Fashion newsletter use it to reveal worldwide clothing, spread the news of particular designers, and wardrobes. It is an essential daily resource for fashion creatives, executives and entrepreneurs in many countries. Newsletters such as “The Business of Fashion” are seen as an addiction. Some people wake up and the first thing they do is read. Some newsletters are a required read. The audience is anyone who would benefit from the information the newsletter contains. The Business of Fashion newsletter began as a project of passion, aiming to target the informed, questioning and opinionated point of view on the fashion business. Nonprofits vs Profits

...Hudson Valley NY HFMA Chapter Newsletter, Bruce McPherson, June 30, 2013 My experience is that many nonprofit (or "not-for-profit," if you prefer that term) health care organizations--whether they be hospitals, nursing homes, home care providers, health insurers, and so forth--do a poor job of informing the key stakeholders in their communities, as well as the general public, about: • Their nonprofit ownership status; • The unique role that nonprofits play in health care; and • How their organizations are fulfilling that role. Yet, they probably all think they are communicating well. Nor do most people understand the sheer size of the nonprofit health care sector. Should we be surprised, then, when people conclude that there is no difference between nonprofit and for-profit health care organizations and that the former should no longer receive any special tax-exemption benefits? As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy, and he is us!" So allow me to present here some basic information about the size and unique value of nonprofit health care, and then present a few critical questions that leaders in the sector must ask themselves, especially those in nonprofit hospitals/health systems, which are currently undergoing the most public scrutiny. Size of the U.S. Nonprofit Health Care Sector The nonprofit health care sector accounts for virtually all of the community health centers in the U.S., 58% of community hospitals (and 69% of community hospital beds), 45% of private...

Community Assessment of Village Meadows Elementary School

...Running head: VILLIAGE MEADOWS COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT Community Assessment of Village Meadows Elementary School Grand Canyon University Community Health October 18, 2010 Community Boundaries This community is comprised of school-aged children ranging from kindergarten and lasting up until sixth grade. The phenomological community is represented in the fact that the community members are all considered to be in elementary school. The community is made up of children with and without special needs and learning disabilities. These children live in the geopolitical area of Bell Road to the 101 Freeway, and between 19th Avenue and 25th Avenue. With Reference to Research, Critically Discuss How Knowledge of 'Fandom' and 'Fan' Activities Has Contributed to Our Understanding of Media Audiences.

...transmission of information. The decoding of information and signs delivered through media relies on individual audience’s perceptions and perspectives. Fan and fandom is a crucial proportion in the media audience. As stated in the Fandom: Identities and Communities in a Mediated World (2007, p1), “most people are fans of something”. The status of fandom and the culture of fan are becoming more and more pervasive in the contemporary society because of the development of transmission technology and the popularity of mass media. Definition of Fan and Fandom The word “fan” is coming from its etymological Latin root “fanaticus” which means enthusiastic and frantic and it is recognized as individuals who are fanatically obsessed with certain subjects. In general, the group of fans can be further defined as fandom. Fandom is more than merely an individual activity of being a fan, but rather, it is a collective behaviour and communal strategy forming an interpretive community of certain sub-cultural cohesion “evaded the preferred and intended meanings of the power bloc” (Gray, Harrington and Sandvoss, 2007). Fandom takes the form of group through which participants will socially share imagined concept and ideology of the community. It consists of observable network of identifiable individual as fans. Anti Fans and Non fans The characteristics of subculture decide that the fandom is only possible to be accepted and supported by a certain group of audience rather than the whole...

The Role of a Community Counselor

...The Role of a Community Counselor Donte Love Abstract The purpose of this paper is to address the role and function of the community counselor. Additionally, the framework of the community counseling model is taken into account, including some of the strategies used in community counseling. The Role of a Community Counselor Community counseling can be defined as “…a comprehensive helping framework that is grounded in multicultural competence and oriented toward social justice (Lewis, Lewis, Daniels, & D'Andrea, 2011). While this definition may serve as a starting point, any meaningful understanding of the role and function of a Community counselor requires more than a brief description or a cursory glance at a definition. The community counseling model is based on four fundamental assumptions and several concepts. The first assumption is: “1. Human development and behavior take place in environmental contexts that have the potential to be nurturing or limiting” (Lewis et al., 2011). This assumption refers to the connection between people and their environment and its potential to act as a source of support or as a limiting factor on their development. The community counseling model effectively deals with the environmental factors that have an influence on the development of problems that people encounter. “2. Even in the face of devastating stress, people who are treated respectfully can demonstrate surprising levels of strength and access resources that a pessimistic...

Community Rights and Geographical Indications

...Community Rights and Geographical Indications Introduction The Concept of Community. The first step in considering the meaning of community is to understand that, fundamentally, it is a fluid concept. What one person calls a community may not match another person’s definition. A person may be a member of a community by choice, as with voluntary associations, or by virtue of their innate personal characteristics, such as age, gender, race, or ethnicity. As a result, individuals may belong to multiple communities at any one time. When initiating community engagement efforts, one must be aware of these complex associations in deciding which individuals to work within the targeted community. A community is a group of two or more people who have been able to accept and transcend their differences regardless of the diversity of their backgrounds (social, spiritual, educational, ethnic, economic, political, etc.) This enables them to communicate effectively and openly and to work together toward goals identified as being for their common good. The word community can refer to a specific group of people or it can describe a quality of relationship based on certain values and principles. A community is a group of all leaders who share equal responsibility for and commitment to maintaining its spirit. Community is reflective, contemplative and introspective. Communities may be viewed as systems composed of individual members and sectors that have a variety of distinct characteristics...
