...Community service should be required in order to graduate high school. Community service helps an application look professional when an employer sees the work experience that a student has. To begin, Donna St. George, journalist for The Washington Post states “Many people were more likely to work in professional and business management due to volunteering as an adolescent.” This is important because it shows the impact that community service has on the type of work an individual continues with, which helps with getting and keeping a job. Also, the article “Even When It’s Mandatory, Volunteering Is Good For Kids” states, volunteering is good for many students because it gives them work experience, and it is good for their future careers, and community service helps inspire them to find an interest he or she likes. To end, Alina Tugend a journalist for The New York Times states, “Students who volunteered were more likely to contribute the community and to vote when they came of age”. This is important because it is showing the relationship between those who volunteered and those who didn’t. Those who volunteered were much more likely to engage with the community and continue to help. Therefore, community service is good for students because it helps with finding a place of work and feeling good about it. Secondly, community service allows students to use skills they learn in the classroom beyond the classroom, such as responsibility, organization, or problem-solving. Kelly Vaughn...

...Kyle Zickefoose Antonette Navarro Community Service 305 Dec. 4, 2014 Final Integration Paper Over the course of this semester I have learned so much in this Community Service 305 class. In this paper I will discuss my new understanding of active citizenship, community engagement, and social responsibility. I will also share some of my personal accounts during my time doing community service, how this has been much more than a one-way relationship, and some of the social issues facing the mental health population. The last thing I will be discussing is how this experience has transformed who I am as a person and how I will integrate what I have learned into my personal life. Before I started this class, I was not looking really looking forward to it. I always assumed that community service was done by retired people or celebrities looking for good publicity, but I was definitely wrong. This class has changed the way I look at community service and I now see it as a crucial part of any thriving community. Multiple videos were shown to us in class about single individuals starting large movements by cutting there own path and not being afraid of deviating from the rest of the crowd. The one video that I remember vividly was one of young boy trying to move a huge log that had fallen in the middle of the road and was blocking traffic. The boy had no chance of moving the log by himself, but he never gave up and eventually people began to start pushing the log with him...

...Rebekah Andreasen Community Service I did my community service at East Texas Dream Center and the YMCA. Community service was a blast, as usual! Every time I do community service it makes me smile because I know I’m giving back to the community and I’m helping others. East Texas Dream Center is a woman’s center for the homeless or those who need rehabilitation. It’s honestly an amazing place to volunteer and do community service hours. While at East Texas Dream Center I helped watch the children while bible study and classes were going on. These children hugely impacted my life! They made me think back to the struggles I went through as a child. Seeing these children smile and laugh no matter what happened made me realize that I should never let anything bring me down because there’s always many reasons to smile. I chose this place because these ladies and there children need help, and being apart of those changing the lives of others is one of the greatest feelings in the world. The other place I took care of some hours was the YMCA with my JROTC group. There we painted the barn and made it look awesome! A new painted barn is always a great thing. I volunteered to do community service here because I know how many kids like to go and take ridding lessons or go to look at the horses and giving those kids something new is a blessing. Giving back to the community and center that has given me so much as a child. While volunteering here I learned that hard work...

...901-496-2467 Mmoore17@comast.net “Community Service” Community service is when someone performs a duty that benefits his or her community. Community service is sometimes associated with punishment. However, community service is a vital part of many small communities. Numerous organizations around the world support community services activities. These services is performed by volunteers who are not paid for their time. From past experiences, community service may be done for a variety of reasons; to meet the requirements of a class, high community work and a religious reason for serving. First, I serve to meet requirements of a class. While in middle school at Kirby Middle School. I volunteered with a group called Kirby Kings. This group was made up of a group of young men that were taught the traits of becoming intelligent men. At least one Saturday out of the month, we had to volunteer by helping others to clean the streets of Memphis, TN. Doing this time, we picked up trash and clean up parks. The experience was alarming. This really made me want to change my ways by not throwing trash on the ground but into a trash bin. I did not enjoy the movement of cleaning after others. But I am more pleased to say I pick up behind myself and others. This experience has taught me to be responsible for my actions and to take encourage others to do the same. Next, another reason for community service is high school community work. As a current student at East High...

Students and their guardians are considering their concerns about the consequences and also anticipating what will be advantages of making it compulsory. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of making unpaid community service compulsory to high school’s student? First of all, the benefit of doing community services is that students will experience many different new things and also get knowledge from the varieties of experiences. In addition, they will become mature and their mentality will change to the outlook on world. Take, for example, if they go poor places, they will feel sympathetic to them, so, they will understand about life, learn lessons and realize that they should not be greedy with their wants. Students will get an opportunity to help people and do good deeds. Moreover, doing community services will help a lot when they apply jobs or university in different areas since this will be a first impression to people. ...RESTORING PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND CITY DEMOCRACY Institution Affiliation Course Date The active participation of the community is the most important part of conserving, reestablishing and constructing both the physical infrastructure and the democracy of cities. From my point of view, Will Rogers principles about physically fit cities and on how we should shape our cities, the vision of growing a city honors equality and diversity. Recycling brownfields abandoned and underutilized property to create parks for the communities is one principle of community-based land conservation. Furthermore, great cities have great parks. These parks are the gathering places for cultural events, farmers’ markets, recreation and also brings communities together. Providing wonderful park system is just as much an ethical issue as providing quality education and mobility for all citizens. I came to agreement on this issue of recycling land to get a fairer balance. In principle two, individual health is directly tied to how we shape our cities and communities. I can as a result of this say, to avoid ‘chronic diseases’ we should construct better patterns for our new developments in the urban, which will create sidewalks and bike paths. It is true to say that our growth patterns are affecting the water quality, the water that we consume to our bodies, becoming a major threat to our health. The squeezed patterns lead to traffics which of course, pollutes our air from the car emissions. It is the...

...For my community service I went to a church who donated to a charitable organization and I worked in the youth’s section. This was a great experience for me because I got to work with youth’s who were interested to learn. At the church we did different activities with each other, this was very interesting. We did different activities together which built a relationship as we bond and play. Helping in a youth group was exciting because I got to work and talk with people my age. I was able to help the younger children with their homework and I typed out documents. The attitude of the community was very positive. They followed the right pathway of God and represented the church well. I must say very proudly, that I didn’t occur in any problems during the different activities. The only problem I struggled with was dealing with the different attitudes presented before me. In a way this helped me a lot because it showed me how different people were in different ways. I did understand the different personalities and attitudes because everyone came from different family backgrounds. There interest with the people was well done; they made them feel welcomed and helped with any need they had. From this experience I did grow in many different ways, it allowed me to developed more conversations and help a lot of people out during their hard times. It also showed me that you can learn a lot of things from other people. This experience made a huge impact on my life, which can carry me throughout...

...The Importance of Community Service Summary: Without community service in our society many people would not know the meaning, usefulness, or importance of charity. Serving in your community addresses many grass roots problems that fall through the cracks of government and social agencies. Community service is a very important factor when it comes to bettering your society. Through my own experiences and observations I have come to support and believe my opinion on this issue. My experience that supports this theory involved my job this past summer of 2004. I paced around the house for a while until I finally decided to sit down and read the newspaper. There was a section on the community which contained a list of volunteer activities ranging from helping in soup kitchens to helping as an electrician. I found that it might be interesting to be of assistance to and make a difference to someone this summer rather than get a job to benefit only me. I called a number and decided that I wanted to spend my time taking care of the grocery shopping for an elderly handicapped woman who has since become a good friend. Finally I was spending my time having fun while making a difference in one woman's life. It may not have paid in dollars, but the experience and pleasure I gained was infinitely more valuable to me than any amount of money I could have earned. Also, through volunteering I started to gain more confidence. Instead of being nervous or scared, I saw this as an experience...

...Community Service Should Be Encouraged In A University Community service is a voluntary work which is intended to help people. This kind of service is important because the needy people will be help by the volunteers so their life will be improved and become easier. Other than that, the relationship between the volunteers and the helped people become stronger and also firms the bond among the volunteers themselves. So, should community service be encouraged in a university? I strongly agree that community service should be encouraged in a university because joining it gives benefits to the students. As a student there is much free time during every single semester. Why do the students have to spend the precious time by doing something which lead to waste that precious thing such as going to malls, playing computer games and other unnecessary activities to be done. By participating in community service, students can spend their leisure time by helping people in need such as visiting old folks or orphans home, picking up trash and donating money and goods. They can complete these unpaid jobs by joining organizations organized in the university. By doing these kind of activities, their leisure time will be spend greatly. Furthermore, the other benefit of this service is people which are in need will be help by the community service volunteers. Indeed, helping people such as the victims of natural disasters like tsunami, flood, fire , and traffic...

...THE IMPORTANT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE IN TODAY’S WORLD Community service is the long held tradition of working without pay in order to serve the common good. In essence, we're talking about helping others either directly or indirectly in order to make the world a little bit of a better place. Often times, community service is different from other volunteer organizations because it is focused on one local issue rather than trying to save the world or focusing on larger problems. The whole premise of community service is based on the idea that it is a good thing to give of yourself without expecting anything in return, and that if everyone gives a little in their local community, the world can become a better place a little bit at a time. The real beauty of serving your community is that you get to help others, and in the end, it helps you too to have a stronger community with happier people. There are many reasons people do community service and there are many different ways in which to participate, but all of them share the common theme of making the world around you a better place without being compensated financially. Community service has been a forever, long service done through giving people of communities in the effort to bring up their neighbourhood. These selfless acts of kindness have been passed through the generations with the same undertones. As volunteering services have grown through the times, there are now more available means of community services for people to involve...

...Lyndsey Naworski Service hours Mrs.huddleston Service Hours Requirement Service hours should be a requirement to graduate for multiple reasons. There are many forms of service that can be accepted; community, parish, and school and those are just three of many. Most people believe that service hours lead to being a greater, more intelligent person, along with the fact that it will automatically make our community a more enjoyable place. Because of these service hours the world will be a better place as well. Studies show that people who partake in community service hours are more likely to become voters, will have a higher level of self-efficiency, and that it builds that persons problem- solving skills. Students also find a sense of responsibility and pride behind the service hours. So not only are you helping the community, you are helping yourself. While working service hours, people are able to work out any conflicts they come across and it builds a tolerance of multiple things. Also some places that students go to to fulfill their hours, are counting on...

...As time progresses more and more high schools across America are beginning to incorporate community service as a graduation requirement as a way to build character and improve the community. As I begin to see this more frequently I find myself wondering what I would choose if I had to serve community service in order to graduate. I've never really thought about community service because I've never really had much of a reason, the closest I came to community service was when I walked dogs at the humane society to help out a friend who worked there. I could pick up garbage, repair houses, or tutor young students; but none of that really sounds appealing so I wouldn't be able to put my all into it because I wouldn't be fully invested in it....

...second grade, I have been involved in community service that has supported numerous organizations. This passion for service has lasted far beyond my Eagle Scout project for the Durham Ronald McDonald House. While in college, I have taken on several large service learning projects and donated my time at a variety of organizations, such as: the Crisis Assistance Ministry, the Jamil Niner Student Pantry, the Historic Washington Heights Neighborhood, Second Harvest Food Bank, Charlotte Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity Restore, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Sow Much Good, Project Linus, and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern of North Carolina. Each semester, I look for new ways to get involved and give back to the community that has provided me so many amazing opportunities. One such service learning project that I completed was with the Crisis Assistance Ministry of Charlotte. This organization seeks to restore dignity and provide emergency help to those facing basic needs insecurities. Every month, clients are able to come to the Free...
