Three New Year’s Resolutions At the beginning of every year people always have resolutions. These resolutions are set to accomplish something to better that person. Most people think they will come easy and usually they don’t achieve them, but if they would dedicate themselves it would surprise them how much easier it would be. A resolution to me is a challenge to better myself in the year. I have three New Year’s resolutions in order to make 2013 a successful year.
My first resolution is to maintain my 4.0 grade point average. I worked hard throughout the 2012 fall semester to have a perfect GPA and accomplished it. Now that 2013 is here I plan to keep my grades up. Accomplishing this resolution will be difficult due to nearly sixty baseball games and practices throughout this spring semester, but I will continue to push myself and come out on top. This is my top resolution because it will help me achieve going on to a four year college and aid being successful in life. The second resolution I have is being a starter on the Hinds baseball team. Dedication is the key to accomplishing this task. I have to work hard and be the best I can be every day. Being surrounded by talented players on my team will make this hard to achieve, but I have to prove that I’m the one of the guys that needs to be in the lineup in order to win. This will be difficult, but by pushing myself I know I can succeed in this resolution.
My last resolution is to take more responsibility in my life. I’m not saying I’m not responsible, but by being even more responsible can better myself in the long run. Handling my business and controlling what I can control is the solution. Responsibility is a big part in life in order to be successful. By achieving this resolution it will prepare me to face the challenges I will run into once school is over and reality takes place. Achieving a resolution can be a positive memory to look back on in the following year to motivate a person them for the next. It will make a year worthwhile and can help people to keep achieving them. None of the resolutions I stated will be easy, but by working hard and pushing myself I can achieve them. Succeeding those resolutions will help me in all aspects of life. If I can accomplish those three New Year’s resolutions 2013 will be a successful year.

Operation Strategy Quality Measures

...document contains an executive summary of that debate and the documents from the meeting: an analytical note by the OECD staff and written submissions: Australia, Canada, Chile, the European Union, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, United Kingdom, Ukraine, United States and BIAC. A note by Theodore Voorhees Jr. as well as a detailed summary of the discussion are also included. Competition policy is just as concerned with quality as it is with prices. While the importance of quality is undisputed and issues about quality are mentioned pervasively in competition agency guidelines and court decisions, there is no widely-agreed framework for analysing it which often renders its treatment superficial. There are a number of reasons why in practice, courts and competition authorities rarely analyse quality effects as rigorously as they analyse price effects. First, quality is a subjective concept and therefore much harder to define and measure than prices. In addition, microeconomic theory offers little help in predicting how changes in the level of competition in a market will affect quality and it is usually up to empirical analysis to determine how quality will change in response to varying degrees of competition in the context of particular markets. Given difficulties in terms of the evaluation of quality factors, particularly in quantitative assessment, competition agencies end up using qualitative tools such as customer surveys and interviews, to assess quality where necessary...

...NAME English Comp 201 Professor Harvey February 5, 2014 Should Individuals Without a Government Issued License be Able to Practice Law? Majoring in the legal field has always been a dream of mine. As a little girl, I dreamed of serving the public, sitting in a courtroom and putting “bad guys” behind bars all in a day’s work. I then imagined myself leaving the courtroom and treating myself to a shopping spree, manicure and massage all on a lawyer’s salary. I thought I had everything figured out and life would be perfect as I rode off into the sunset with Prince Charming wearing my suit, and carrying a briefcase. Since then, I have learned law is much more complex than I ever imagined and the idea of a perfect career began to blur right before my eyes. I then decided a career as a paralegal was a better fit for me. I started the path to my career as a paralegal at Minnesota State University Moorhead, and even took an introductory course last fall. One day, my professor asked the class if we thought practicing law without a government issue licensed was considered the unauthorized practice of law. The class began a debate that took nearly the entire class period. It was that moment I became aware of the changes that lie ahead in the legal field before I get my degree. In the last year, a hot, new topic has starting being discussed in the legal field and has created controversy and difference in opinion amongst all fifty states. The controversy began when Washington legalized...

Tort

...Grade: A University of London LLB, 2nd year Tort Law Question Amber Valley Primary School was closed 6 months ago by Amber Borough Council (ABC), the local education authority, which owns all the land and buildings. The school has been standing empty while ABC attempts to find a buyer for the site. Although ABC placed fencing around the site, local residents reported that youths had broken into the site on a number of occasions. Last week a group of youths from a nearby young offenders institution, operated by Chigley Services Ltd (CS) under contract to the Home Office, broke into the disused school and set fire to it. The youths had been clearing rubbish from a neighbouring stream and were supposed to have been under the supervision of Justin and Jason, both of whom are CS employees. However, Justin and Jason had gone for a cigarette break and left the youths unsupervised at the time the break-in occurred. The fire caused damage to neighbouring property including a baker's shop owned by Mark. It is likely to be many weeks before the business can reopen and Mark stands to lose many thousands of pounds in lost profits. It later transpired that the fire would not have had time to spread to neighbouring property had the Fire Brigade acted more swiftly. The Amber Valley Fire engine was unavailable at the time and another engine had to be dispatched from Leicester. The crew got lost on the way because they put the wrong address in the sat-nav (satellite navigation)...

A Critical Perspective on Prison Privatization

...A Critical Perspective on Prison Privatization April 6, 2015     A Critical Perspective on Prison Privatization Topic Statement: “Is the privatization of prisons for profit an ethical practice?” The topic of a country privatizing areas of industry is far from a novel idea, especially since the rise of capitalism. With the United States being widely considered the father of capitalism, it is almost expected to see the privatization of a key component of its judicial system, prison, becoming more and more common. Although the underlying function of a prison as a means of social reform has remained constant since its inception in 1750 BCE with the Babylonian Empire, externalities are beginning to influence a change in the governing bodies of penitentiaries (Roberts, 2006). With governments and taxpayers seeing the opportunities for cost savings, countries throughout the world are beginning to employ private operating models for their penitentiaries, with the U.S. being the primary driver of this change (Trivedi, 2014). Framework of the Issue A change in the operating sovereign of a prison, from federal to private, is controversial enough that the effects of this privatization have garnered the title of the Prison-Industrial Complex. The complex is a scholarly attempt to explain the intertwining of the profit-driven agendas of private prison companies and the correlated expansion of the US inmate population. Although cost savings for the government...
