...competitor’s composite blade that has a higher quality, a longer lifespan, and developed from a cheaper material than their own carbide blade. There has always existed competition from European, American, and Asian firms; but, the composite blade is the newest technology for the industry that caught Leeds unprepared. Several of the company’s divisions will be affected by the decision on how to transfer over to the new blade. The demand is immediate, though the product will take at least six months to reach the market. Barry Sullivan must closely consider the irrelevant and relevant costs that are involved in his decision to switch from carbide blades to composite blades. Assumptions Leedsworks can produce and sell 10,000 carbide blades per week based on the fact that the company averages 10,000 in sales weekly. Currently, there are 400,000 finished units of carbide blades in inventory; plus, another 300,000 additional units of carbide blades can be made from the...

...Literature, Vol. 2, No. 3. 2010 Introduction The role of grammar in language instruction has been an issue of great controversy. In the early parts of the twentieth century grammar teaching was so fundamental in language instruction that the other aspects of language learning were either overlooked or de-mphasized. In the past, grammar teaching was considered as the presentation and practice of discrete grammatical structures. The present study investigated the effects of three types of dictation practice (standard dictation, dicto-comp, and dictogloss) on elementary EFL learners' immediate and delayed performance on tests of present tense to be verbs and indefinite articles in English. A. Statement of the Problem: * Will the effects of the standard type of dictation between its immediate and delayed effects on acquisition of grammatical knowledge be different to that of the effects of dicto-comp dictation and dicto-gloss dictation when it is measured by performance on multiple-choice tests? B. Hypothesis: * Empirical Hypothesis: * If students score higher when subjected to the standard type of dictation than that of those under dicto-comp dictation, than those under dictogloss type of dictation then the Standard Dictation has a different immediate and delayed effect to the other types of dictation. * Null Hypothesis: * There is no significant difference between the immediate and delayed effects of Standard Dictation, Dicto-comp dictation...

...one thing, you forgo the choice of another. Eg – type of lunch, recreational activities. (From slide) “Although we have boundless needs and wants, the resources are limited → having more of one thing usually means having less of another” Resources – land, labour, capital, enterprise. * Define the cost benefit principle and apply it to simple economic decisions “An individual/firm/society should take an action, if the extra benefits> or = to extra costs.” Going out for pizza/study for test choice → explicit cost of pizza ($10) and Implicit cost of worse test mark (5/10 marks) *Opportunity cost=cost forgone=real cost – value of the next-best alternative to taking an action. Eg- pizza →$10 and 10 marks is opportunity cost. *Economic surplus is the benefit of taking any action minus its cost. The goal is to maximize its surplus. Eg- walk into town to save $10 on video games. Walking costs $5 → surplus =$5 *Reservation Price – highest price one is willing to pay; can be different from market commodity price. * List four common pitfalls that people encounter when...

...information regarding critical weedcrop competition period is lacking. We investigated the critical weed-crop competition period in sesame at the Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad Pakistan during summer season (July-November) 2005. Treatments were weed-crop competition periods (WCCP) of 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 weeks after emergence in addition to full season competition and full season weedy check as negative and positive controls, respectively. A gradual decrease from 6.88 to 12.40 % in seed yield was recorded with 6 weeks to full season weed-crop competition. Non significant reduction in seed yield was observed up to 5 weeks WCCP. Weed crop competition for a period of 3 weeks did not show significant decrease in straw yield, number of capsules plant-1, number of seeds capsule-1 and 1000 seed weight, whereas a significant decline in all these parameters was noted as WCCP exceeded 3 weeks. Weed density and dry weight did not increase significantly until WCCP was prolonged up to 3 and 4 weeks, respectively. This study led to conclude that although growth decline was started after 3rd week, however significant yield decline was noticed from 6th week after crop emergence. ...(“Public Comps”) – this analysis indicates how the stock markets are valuing companies that are similar to the target Precedent Comparable Transaction analysis (“Transaction Comps”) – this analysis indicates the valuations at which prior M&A transactions have been done in the same industry as that of the target. DCF analysis – is one of the most important valuation techniques Sum-of-the-parts analysis – If a target has more than one lines of business, the financial advisor will value each business separately. Therefore, each “part” might have its own Public Comps, Transaction comps and DCF (with different WACCs for each part). The total value is the sum of the parts Other –depending on the unique characteristics of the transaction, financial advisors will perform a number of other analyses to arrive at fair value like Leveraged Buyout (“LBO”) Analysis, Historical Exchange Ration analyses etc. PUBLIC COMPS Compare the current trading level of a Company to its peer group of companies The peer group is a set of 5 to 10 companies that are most similar to the target in terms of business mix and strategy, geographic risks(same country), margins and size. (i.e. processed meats and raw meats are different). To find a good peer group start broad (all companies in the SIC code) and then narrow the list to the most comparable peers. Also refer to equity research reports, industry reports, the company’s 10K where its discusses competitors and Bloomberg (Quote 2) to identify...
