...Hayden Harvey MWF 9:00 AM Mrs. Edwards In my opinion, Anzaldua says "Wild tongues can't be tamed, they can only be cut out" for the purpose of expressing how she was treated. It was either, say it right, or get out, which seems to be a little harsh. Another possible meaning to this quote could be that if you are not afraid to speak up about what you believe in, you could be a very influential and threatening person, therefore the opposing party would take action to silence you. This is ultimately what many influential people fear the most, another person or group speaking out against them and challenging them. It makes me think of Suzanne Collin's Hunger Games trilogy, Katniss starts off as a little insignificant girl and blossoms into a star and the start of a revolution because she is not afraid to speak out and go against the system to pursue what she believes in. My goal in life is to achieve having a tongue that can't be tamed. Making a difference and seeing how many people you can positively affect in the process. That quote definitely makes you think about standing up for what you believe in. Defining some and not all of the Spanish phrases in this essay is an effective strategy to keep the essays spanish base. Anzaldua was limited by the things she could say and she decided to limit some of the parts that English speaking people could understand as a sort of payback. Why not serve up what she got dished out? I may not even be right about this, but this is what...

...Exploratory Paper: As Technology grows, there are more and more virtual schools popping up around the country. With this happening there are a few questions that you must ask yourselves. Is the education that you get from an online school as good or equal to the traditional school system? Can all students succeed in the online environment? Will students learn as much from an online course as they would in a face-to-face classroom setting? Are the degree’s that you may receive from these schools as good or treated as equal to an actual physically attended college degree? Some students feel different about this subject. Taking online classes makes more sense to them in their lifestyle or family situation. The students who take online classes may not be able to attend a traditional college, they may have concerning issues that will not allow this, whether it be having to raise a child and not being able to find adequate child care, or maybe just the cost of the actual school. There are students that do a mixture of both online and traditional classes. They take the classes that they can at a traditional college then take classes online as well. The mostly do this all at the same college that they attend. They may have some of the same issues in life and college but still find time to make it to a regular class room setting. This way they can choose and see what classes they can sign up for and take the rest online. So when comparing the degree’s that you get from...

...Over several years of living in the United States, there has always been a problem with illegal immigrants. The schools seem to be more over crowded because of all the extra immigrant students. Illegal immigrants reap some of the benefits that United States citizens have without having to do any of the work. Because of people, coming here and taking advantage of the excellent opportunities found within the United States. One attempt is the recent bill known as The Dream Act. Being a US citizen is a privilege, not a right and this action is trying to change that. The dream act should not be passed because of the burden it places on school systems, the strain it has on the economy, and they will end up enjoying the rights legal citizens are given. Illegal immigrants do pay taxes inside the United States indirectly but being as how they do not pay income and personal property taxes legally. The social security administration says that around 75% of illegal immigrants are on a payroll and paid by a check like legal citizens. But these immigrants get onto that payroll by using stolen social security numbers of legal citizens or the deceased. In the end, this will cause citizens to have to pay more. Did you know that as American taxpayers we pay over $113 million a year for illegal immigrants? The dream act should not be a law that should pass for the reasons following. Claim 1: Taxes The extra money that we will need for these children of the illegal immigrants to...

...Introduction to Speech M/W 1:30 Listening Activity Paper 4/27/2015 First allow me to say that I was truly dreading this assignment. I thought to myself, “How am I going to devote 12 hours of any given day to this?” I am just so busy. However, I learned a lot in a short period of time about myself. I realize I was wrong about myself. I truly thought that I was, at all times, a kind and gracious listener. God knows I have preached to my children enough about how important it is to really listen to people. Now I wonder if they take me seriously when I say that. I did not realize how focused I get about our structure and routine. Being a single mom with two honor roll students who are very involved requires structure. I did not realize that when I am in that zone I am literally tuning them out and dismissing what they are expressing to me. This must make them feel pretty unimportant. It also begs the question, will they feel justified tuning me out. I am not aggravated when I am focused on getting things done but I fear I come across that way in my direct and impersonal responses and lack of listening. I also did not realize that I was prioritizing listening to one child over the other according to the time I have with each. I have literally subconsciously been scheduling time to listen to each of them. That means that if the Sienna feels it is important to tell me something during Aidan’s primary time in the car, I may or may not dismiss her. How awful...

...The Gun Debacle, How to Reduce Gun Violence Without Losing Your Rights Gregory Guyer ITT Technical Institute. "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... only disarm those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." Are Thomas JeffersonThomas JeffersonThomas Jefferson thoughts about gun control during his era who he quoted from an article written by Cesare Bonesana, Marchese Beccaria “essay on crimes and punishments”. (1764) Such remarks from a prominent member of our founding fathers suggest that not only has this debate been going on for a long time but also how important to Americans it is. The second amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America says, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This must have been thought important by our forefathers to have listed this one second, yet we are on the verge of losing yet another one of our rights as Americans in the name of safety. Will we really be safer, or is it simply a play of political control? According to the National Institute of Justice (2013), there are fewer gun related incidents nationwide than there were in the early 1990’s. Not only do we see fewer actual gun related...

...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...

A logo printed lightly behind a letter or the word "Confidential" printed lightly on a contract are other examples of watermarks. The rotated “Draft” watermark on this page was created using the Word Art feature. You can insert pictures (such as a logo) from a file or using Clip Art.
