Women Fashion in 1900s and 1990s

Fashion is the indispensable part of women nowadays as well as the previous periods. Clothing is not only the stuff to cover or keep warm women’s bodies, but also the tool to display their characteristics. Choosing women’s outfits is based on their wearing purposes and personalities. So, there were many innovations in women fashion during the twentieth century. Even though they made a lot of diversities especially between the 1900s and 1990s, there were some related points in fashion to the first and last periods of the century.
The biggest difference in women fashion between two decades is appearance. Although, there were some revolutions in fashion industry in 1900s, women fashion was still influenced by the Victorianism. Thus, women clothes kept on containing a lot of complex details and accessories. According to the article “The 1900s: Fashion: Overview”, “The S-shaped silhouette formed by a corset, petticoats, and a small, heavy bustle, remained the dominant look for women.” On the other hand, the 1990s is a period of soften and less constructed garments. Knit tops, cotton khaki pants, T-shirt and bell-bottom jeans are the most common suits of women in this decade (“Overview”).
The next point is fashion trend. The reason of the discrepancy between two decades is the style in 1900s based on the Gibson Girl’s images. The Gibson Girl is a drawing of illustrator Charles Gibson which is a symbol of fragile and voluptuous lady with a tiny waist and hair piled high upon the head (“The Gibson Girl”). This image had a strong effect on the 1900s outlook. While, there were wide variety of trends in 1990s such as casual, retro, rock, and mixed style. Women in this decade focused on simple, elegant, active and romantic dressing purposes (“Overview”). In spite of several dissimilarities mentioned above, both followed the basic principle of fashion style. In fact, it is the circle in which the latest one is developed from the past foundation.
Third, there were a lot of changes in dressing rules between 1900 and 1990 decade; but some common formalities were long-lasting. Due to globalization, people in 1990s had the freedom rights to dress more comfortable than in 1900s. For instance, the offices adopted casual-dress at work and people can wear relaxed suit in public (“Overview”). In contrast, the women had to change their dress for dinner. They also weren’t allowed to go out of the house without girdles and petticoats (“The 1900s: Fashion: Overview”). In addition, dressing in office was also more formal in 1900s. According to “The 1900s: Fashion: Overview”, the shirtwaist was just acceptable for women who didn’t work outside the house, whereas women in 1990 decade wore it to go to the office commonly. Besides these differences, some formalities are similar until now. All people know that dressing in public and office is always stricter than at home because nobody want to be rude on the other people’s eyes.
The last compare and contrast aspect of two American decades is shopping ways. It’s parallel for women to shop their clothes during the twentieth century. They could buy dresses through the stores or mail. However, stores in 1900s weren’t distributed nearly as widely as shops in 1990s, especially in rural town (“The 1900s: Fashion: Overview”). Moreover, the ready-made clothes became popular from the beginning of the century. Therefore, women could buy ready-made clothes instead of going to the tailor shops (“The 1900s: Fashion: Overview”).
To sum up, some similar points especially in how women bought their attires still lasted throughout the century. However, the women looks, fashion trends and dressing rules in the 1900s and 1990s had wide variances. As the result, it’s easy to realize two historical periods through the women dressing. Fashionable differences combined with similarities between two decades have created a colorful painting of culture by which some people can recall their memories.

Comparing and Contrasting Declaration of Independence vs. Declaration of Man and Citizen

...World of History after 1500 July 5, 2015 Comparing and Contrasting the Declaration of Independence vs. Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen Throughout the course of the week we were asked to compare and contrast the two given documents titled, The Declaration of Independence & Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. Before we begin to discuss the difference and similarities, we must first understand what each Declaration stands for. The Declaration of Independence is defined as, “The formal statement written by Thomas Jefferson declaring the freedom of the thirteen American colonies from Great Britain.” (LoveToKnow, 2015). The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen is defined as, “One of the basic charters of human liberties, containing the principles that inspired the French Revolution. Its 17 articles, adopted between August 20 and August 26, 1789, by France’s National Assembly, served as the preamble to the Constitution of 1791.” (Britannica Inc., 2015). Now that we have a better understanding of both Declarations, we can begin to compare and contrast. After reading both Declarations I found various differences and similarities. These Declarations were both pushing the rights of freedom & equality within almost the same decade of the 1700’s. This is supported strongly through the Declaration of Independence; stating that the people of the United States will leave freely and will no longer live under a constitution where royalty (compared...

... The first is the importance of the Civil War and Reconstruction in setting the stage for the great industrial growth and development in the late 19th century. The second theme is the impact of industrialization in late 19th century America--economically, politically, socially, and culturally. A third theme centered on the emergence of an aggressive America foreign policy that in general sought to export American values and ideas so as to bring order to the international scene. The fourth major theme is the rise of progressivism in the first two decades of this century. Like the unions and Populists before them, the Progressives responded to the tremendous impact of industrialization and corporate capitalism on American society, however with much more success. A fifth theme centers on the American entrance into World War I and the war's impact on American society and politics. A sixth theme is the conflict over values and power in American society. Different groups (African-Americans, KKK, nativist/anti-immigrant, socialists, women, etc) with their own unique visions of what American society should be came into conflict over whose vision should predominate. A final theme is emergence of a powerful, welfare state in the form of the New Deal which finally addressed in a large-scale and systematic effort the negative consequences inherent in capitalism and industrialization. Below are some questions that should help you prepare for the first midterm. These are not the actual questions...

In actuality, there are many different types of essays, each of which has a unique purpose, form, and style. We call these different types of essays “modes of discourse,” and they include expository, persuasive, and comparecontrast essays to name just a few. This section of the Guide has a dual purpose. First, various types of essays are described and suggestions are included about how to approach each particular type of writing. Second, the sample essays are good tools for you to see how these different essays look in their final form. These are not templates (no essay can be a carbon copy of another even in form), but they will give you a good idea of what a final piece of writing for each mode of discourse looks like. Cause and Outcome of War 1754 to 1815

...Cause and Outcome of War 1754-1815 Abstract This paper will compare and contrast the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and the War of 1812. All three wars were fought over land or expansion in one form or another. The French and Indian War was fought because both countries believed they had the right to the Ohio River Valley. This caused Britain to tax the colonist and place restrictions that led to the American Revolution. The American Revolution gave the colonies their freedom from British rule and the ability to form their nation and laws. Great Britain never respected the United States as a sovereign nation. Due to the conflict with France both France and Britain restricted U.S. imports because of the belief that the U.S. was supplying the enemy. The embargoes on American shipments along with the Native American attacks on colonist caused the War of 1812. The greatest accomplishment of the War of 1812 was the era of good feelings. Cause and Outcome of War 1754-1815 The cause and outcome of the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and the War of 1812 had many similarities. The wars started with the French and Indian war that was fought over the Ohio River Valley, which began in 1754 ending with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The American Revolutionary War was fought over the colonist not given the same rights as Englishmen along with the taxation of the colonist that began 1775 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The War of 1812 was fought because...
