It is a big step taking when young adults move from mandatory high school to the option of going to college. High school and college are two very important stages in a person’s life to get an education. These two stages are for the same purpose, but then yet very different. Young adults attend high school as mandatory and usually free, while college is an option to the person. Like any school, both high school and college are very dependent of one another. There has to be a high school diploma or a GED to get into college. Just like how a person does in high school, it’s the placement of classes in college. Both these stage are like two different worlds. High school is in my own opinion the easiest, but yet the most tempting stage. Starting high school for a young adult seems like life its just beginning, not knowing that they have a lot to accomplish before it actually starts. There is a lot more to high school besides football games, homecoming, and prom. Time in high school is always instructed by teachers, coaches, and councilors, they are behind young adults to keep up with what they are doing to get classes completed and doing what they are suppose to do. At the beginning of each year each schedule is made for each student individually so each of students’ classes and arranged depending on their academic level. If they students counselor feels he or she is falling behind in certain areas, the counselor will approach the student letting know what are going to be the consequences. If the student does not fall behind and is doing everything there is to be done and completing classes with D or better the student graduates. Students have it easy when they are attending high school because they have mostly everything done for them, all they have to do is decide whether they want to do it or not to be able to

...Compare and Contrast Paper Introduction We have all struggled with situations such as grief, loss, or stress at some time in our lives. When we seek counseling to help us overcome the feelings that are associated with these hardships it is good to know the best way to approach them. We usually just want the problem to go away and we want to feel happy and rejuvenated again. However, there are steps we must take in order to experience freedom and true happiness. Most counselors are using techniques that involve cognitive and behavioral therapy and pharmacological intervention. It isn’t that anything is wrong with these approaches; however this won’t take care of the problem. We must take a biblical approach and seek the Lord when we are faced with struggles. Goal of Christian Counseling When reading through Crabb’s book Effective Christian Counseling, it is clear that the goal of Christian counseling is to not just make a client happy but to bring them closer to God by helping them mature in their faith. This would include using biblical methods of dealing with their problems rather than relying upon secular methods. Crabb specifically states that “the goal is to free people to better worship and serve God by helping them become more like the Lord.” We want to help mature our clients spiritually and psychologically. (Crabb, 1977) There are steps to maturity which includes immediate obedience and long-range character growth. (Crabb, 1977) We need to be able to understand...

...Online Schools vs. Traditional Schools The popularity of online schools has greatly increased in popularity (perc-schwabfdn.org). The majority of the population has not been introduced to it yet. According to I. Elaine Allen and Jeff Seaman, over 5.1 percent of college students are enrolled in at least one online course (2). An online education will benefit anyone who is open to the idea of not actually being in the presence of the “normal” or traditional real life classroom setting that we are all so used to, mainly to low income families (Vander Ark). Traditional schools differ from online schools in many ways. Nonetheless, they have many similarities at the same time. While people have the misconceptions of what an online school offers, other people are aware of the many entities that these schools offer such as other students, classrooms, teachers and degrees. We all know what a traditional school looks like; we have all been to one at one point whether it has been high school or even a college campus. There is a main office, lockers, classrooms, a cafeteria, a parking lot and a library. Additionally, desks and white or chalk boards are found in these classrooms. Teachers are always helpful; they have “office hours” where a student can get extra help with the subject they are struggling with. The classes which are offered by the college are only accessible during certain hours of the day. Their definition of night classes is anytime from five in the evening to nine...

They are French, American, Chinese, Japanese … restaurants. Vietnamese have more changes for eating more strange and unique foods that we have ever eaten. And I really enjoy in the Italian food. In Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, there are two biggest Italian restaurants that have people usually talk about when they want to have the best Italian food. They are Espresso with friendly and hospitable service and Pepperonis with the appetizing and blazing hot entrees of Pepperonis; they are really the Italian heritage. Before deciding which restaurant leaves a better impression in my mind, a comparison and contrast between location, taste, service and cost must be considered. For me, choosing which restaurant to recommend to family members or friends is as hard as choosing clothes for the first dating. Someone said that having a best meal is not only eating and drinking but also enjoying food in a special space. Pepperonis locates at a beautiful place, it’s near the Saigon River, the most beautiful river in the city. From there, you can enjoy the fresh air, the romantic scene without the noisy of this busy city. It’s a good place for the lovers or a family that wants to relax after a hard day. Opposite to Pepperonis, Espresso locates in the largest, busiest street of Ho Chi Minh City. This place is suitable for business and young persons that want...

When comparing the two control models their opinions differ completely in reference to the causes of crime. Additionally when comparing crime control and due process models one needs to remember, “Proponents of both models embrace constitutional values which are necessary to the kind of society in which American wish to live” (Zalman, 2008, p. 4). In addition answers will be given to questions about the effects on law enforcement, courts, and differences between federal, and state polices, and distinguishes these values. Nine Inch Nails Compare and Contrast Paper

...Critical Thinking Worksheet Teresa Horton Com / 170 April 8, 2012 Dr. Laura Wilson Which Version Of “Hurt” Would You Prefer? Nine Inch Nails versus Johnny Cash The song “Hurt” written by Trent Reznor and originally performed by his band Nine Inch Nails is a melancholy, haunting song. Nine Inch Nails’ version was recorded in 1994 and rerecorded and released by Johnny Cash in 2002. Each of the performers has a style, which some people would argue is at opposite ends of the spectrum of popular music; one is what is referred to as “Industrial Rock”, the other is country. Indeed, the musical genres are diverse; however, the song “Hurt” transcends the boundaries between old and new, hard and soft, and especially the differences and similarities between these men. Nine Inch Nails is known for their industrial rock sound which combines synthesizers and percussion to produce sounds that remind you of a steel yard in Pennsylvania. This is probably a testament to the fact that the bands’ lead singer, Trent Reznor was born and raised near those steel yards (“The Nine Inch Nails Wiki,” 2012). Johnny Cash’s version speaks to those familiar with growing up during a rough time or not having much; people considered the down-trodden. Growing up in a religious family in Arkansas seems ingrained in the way Cash performs the song. Johnny lived a hard life on a cotton farm (“Johnny Cash,” 2012). Reznor and Cash both graduated from high school...

Effective Christian Counseling by Larry Crabb/ Compare and Contrast Paper

...DB Forum 3: Working with Individuals Clinton & Ohlschlager, 2002 identify five concepts/approaches in working with individuals. They are as follows: (1) Circular over Linear Causality; (2) Family Homeostasis and the Identified Problem; (3) Family Roles; (4) Family Secrets, Myths, and Lies; (5) Family Triangles According to Clinton & Ohlschlager, 2002, the importance of a system approach began in the 1930’ and 1940’s when “mathematicians and engineers developed systems concepts to apply to the increasing complexity and demand of their work. Then in the 1950’s and 1960’s, general systems theory became the basis for computer development and caused that technological field to mushroom. Interdisciplinary thinkers and scientists in the 1960’s and 1970’s began to transfer these concepts to the living world. In 1968, a biologist named von Bertalanffy and in 1972 an anthropologist-ethnologist named Bateson took systems concepts and applied them for the first time to human interaction process. Now instead of looking only at the historical facts and inner dynamics related to a person’s problems, we look at the pattern of transactions going on among family members and the world around them” (p.522-523). Clinton & Ohlschlager, 2002 identify six schools of thought regarding family therapy (p.529-533). The school of thought that I closely align myself with regarding family therapy is the Behavioral approach. It “is among the more recent approaches to family therapy, due...

...be asked to write papers in which you compare and contrast two things: two texts, two theories, two historical figures, two scientific processes, and so on. "Classic" compare-and-contrast papers, in which you weight A and B equally, may be about two similar things that have crucial differences (two pesticides with different effects on the environment) or two similar things that have crucial differences, yet turn out to have surprising commonalities (two politicians with vastly different world views who voice unexpectedly similar perspectives on sexual harassment). In the "lens" (or "keyhole") comparison, in which you weight A less heavily than B, you use A as a lens through which to view B. Just as looking through a pair of glasses changes the way you see an object, using A as a framework for understanding B changes the way you see B. Lens comparisons are useful for illuminating, critiquing, or challenging the stability of a thing that, before the analysis, seemed perfectly understood. Often, lens comparisons take time into account: earlier texts, events, or historical figures may illuminate later ones, and vice versa. Faced with a daunting list of seemingly unrelated similarities and differences, you may feel confused about how to construct a paper that isn't just a mechanical exercise in which you first state all the features that A and B have in common, and then state all the ways in which A and B are different. Predictably, the thesis of such a paper is usually an assertion...

...asking for comparison/contrast and then to generate a list of similarities and differences, decide which similarities and differences to focus on, and organize your paper so that it will be clear and effective. It will also explain how you can (and why you should) develop a thesis that goes beyond “Thing A and Thing B are similar in many ways but different in others.” INTRODUCTION In your career as a student, you’ll encounter many different kinds of writing assignments, each with its own requirements. One of the most common is the comparison/contrast essay, in which you focus on the ways in which certain things or ideas—usually two of them—are similar to (this is the comparison) and/or different from (this is the contrast) one another. By assigning such essays, your instructors are encouraging you to make connections between texts or ideas, engage in critical thinking, and go beyond mere description or summary to generate interesting analysis: when you reflect on similarities and differences, you gain a deeper understanding of the items you are comparing, their relationship to each other, and what is most important about them. RECOGNIZING COMPARISON/CONTRAST IN ASSIGNMENTS Some assignments use words—like compare, contrast, similarities, and differences—that make it easy for you to see that they are asking you to compare and/or contrast. Here are a few hypothetical examples: * Compare and contrast Frye’s and Bartky’s accounts of oppression. * Compare WWI to WWII, identifying...
