Compare and Contrast Essay The contrasts among Red Badge of Courage and Soldier’s Heart are noticeable, however the comparisons concerning the two cannot be missed. There are a number of differences between the two, but a few stood out beyond than others. The similarities between the novellas are apparent and effortlessly recognizable. There are various comparisons and contractions that can be made between these two novellas, but overall there are more comparisons that can be drawn from the two stories. There are quite a few similarities between these stories, both told from different points of view, but a few were more noticeable than others. Both Soldier’s Heart and Red Badge of Courage demonstrate how ironic it is that nature does not stop, even while a bloody war among men of the same country is occurring. In their first battles, both Charlie and Henry are petrified at the thought of being at war just minutes after the battle begins. Both main characters miraculously convert into incredible fighters and patriots in their second battles. Both main characters undergo the transition of wanting to fight, experiencing battle and wishing they were not a part of the fighting, and subsequently becoming excellent soldiers after seeing battle a few times. Henry and Charlie are both fighting for the Union and dislike the Rebels. Charlie has a friendly conversation with a Rebel and even trades tobacco and coffee with him, even though they were on opposing sides of the war; Henry holds a friendly conversation with a Rebel as well.
