Have you thought about Joshua Chamberlain’s speech to the mutineers? In the book “Killer Angels” by Michael Shaara, and the movie Gettysburg, He was a bit new to the Army but was still given the responsibility of one hundred and twenty men. He had to persuade them to fight with him.
In Joshua Chamberlain’s speech, many of his character traits were revealed. One of them being Responsible. “I’ve been ordered to take you men with me.” (Shaara 8). Another trait is that he’s humble. “I’m told that is you men (laughs quietly) don’t come I can shoot you. Well you know I won’t do that, maybe someone else will but I won’t.” (Shaara 8). Which you can’t see in the book. Lastly you can see the emotions of Chamberlain and the mutineers. When he was giving his speech his emotion and there's changed. It shows how angry the mutineers looked at first and that softened when Chamberlain was being nice and asked if they were hungry. You can also see the disgust in Chamberlain's face when he talked about certain topics. There many advantages and disadvantages between the movie and book. For the book one advantage is that the text is easily cited, on the contrary, you can not cite text with the movie. An advantage to the movie is that you can hear the changes in voice and tone. On the other hand in the book you can’t hear it change. In the book you can hear the characters thoughts. To contrast in the movie you can’t really hear a person's thoughts. In the movie you can see the characters expression. Variance, you can not see the expressions of the characters in book. In conclusion Chamberlain’s speech to the mutineers brings up many topics.
