Following his favorable outcome, King organized one more March On Washington for poor people over the issue of poverty, but before he was able to reach the event he was assassinated in Tennessee (Kirk). King’s brutal death ignited riots across the country, and eventually a man by the name of James Ray pleaded guilt for the homicide. Following his accusation, Ray claimed that he was coerced into his cry of guilt, and from then on, King’s family defended the man and believed him for his honesty; thus, reopening the case. After gaining support from Martin Luther King’s family, the man who was first seen as King’s killer eventually turned out to NOT be guilty, and eventually died, leaving the questions concerning his death to remain unanswered (Carson). Despite his fatal ending, King was able to be brought up in a world where he was not seen as equal, and die in a world that he changed for the better. In conclusion, King continues to be a vital example of a leader who fought for what he believed in through the nonviolent method of civil disobedience, proving that disobeying unjust laws can and will make a difference.
