Human and nature simultaneously exist, and nature provides food, water, and habitation for humans. However, humans, sometimes, have to struggle with the power of nature to obtain those necessities. According to “Edward’s Rocks” and “Sea Devil”, the men in the stories fought against the lurking risks from the surroundings, the sea specifically, such as the pointed rocks hiding from the mist or the giant sea monster skulking in the obscure moon. The characters were in scalding danger scenes. Nevertheless, they used their advantages, which was experience from hunting and fishing for many years or the faculty of providing solutions and making decisions in deadly situations, to survive from the influence of nature.

A human might not have the biggest claws, the sharpest teeth, or a gigantic body, but the human had “ the one faculty that had carried man to his pre-eminence above all beasts, the faculty of reason” (Gordon, 1988, p. 5). The man in “Sea Devil”, at first, was inferior to giant ray, and he was on the verge of death and life. The character was tossed out of the skiff while being trapped by a rope from the net that encircled the ray, and he wriggled frantically but then realized that the efforts were vain. He was thinking about giving up because he was so exhausted from “[being] under the water perhaps fifteen second [then] … and he would be finished” (Gordon, 1988, p. 4). He was not a laborer and rarely encountered problems on the sea before, so he couldn’t react as fast as George did. Notwithstanding, the despairing thought stimulated his brain to offer him a solution, using the ancient stake to slash the string. Subsequently, he triumphed over the battle of himself and the battle with the ray. The protagonist’s faculty- the intelligence- allowed him to overcome the severe ordeal, facing the dilemma of being free from the capture of the rope and the giant ray or departing from this

Dubliners

...Dubliners Joyce, James Published: 1914 1 About Joyce: James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (Irish Séamus Seoighe; 2 February 1882 – 13 January 1941) was an Irish expatriate writer, widely considered to be one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. He is best known for his landmark novels Ulysses (1922) and Finnegans Wake (1939), the short story collection Dubliners (1914) and the semi-autobiographical novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916). Although his adult life was largely spent outside the country, Joyce's fictional universe is firmly rooted in Dublin and provide the settings and much of the subject matter for all his fiction. In particular, his tempestuous early relationship with the Irish Roman Catholic Church is reflected through a similar inner conflict in his recurrent alter ego Stephen Dedalus. As the result of his minute attentiveness to a personal locale and his self-imposed exile and influence throughout Europe, Joyce became simultaneously one of the most cosmopolitan and one of the most local of all the great English language writers. Source: Wikipedia 2 Chapter 1 The Sisters There was no hope for him this time: it was the third stroke. Night after night I had passed the house (it was vacation time) and studied the lighted square of window: and night after night I had found it lighted in the same way, faintly and evenly. If he was dead, I thought, I would see the reflection of candles on the darkened blind, for I knew that two candles...

Bloodlines of the Illuminati

...Bloodlines of Illuminati by: Fritz Springmeier, 1995 Introduction: I am pleased & honored to present this book to those in the world who love the truth. This is a book for lovers of the Truth. This is a book for those who are already familiar with my past writings. An Illuminati Grand Master once said that the world is a stage and we are all actors. Of course this was not an original thought, but it certainly is a way of describing the Illuminati view of how the world works. The people of the world are an audience to which the Illuminati entertain with propaganda. Just one of the thousands of recent examples of this type of acting done for the public was President Bill Clinton’s 1995 State of the Union address. The speech was designed to push all of the warm fuzzy buttons of his listening audience that he could. All the green lights for acceptance were systematically pushed by the President’s speech with the help of a controlled congressional audience. The truth on the other hand doesn’t always tickle the ear and warm the ego of its listeners. The light of truth in this book will be too bright for some people who will want to return to the safe comfort of their darkness. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I deal with real facts, not theory. Some of the people I write about, I have met. Some of the people I expose are alive and very dangerous. The darkness has never liked the light. Yet, many of the secrets of the Illuminati are locked up tightly simply because secrecy is a way...
