Both media, The Wendigo and The Hitchhiker display relatable characters as well as everyday conflicts, like a long road trip and camping. On the other hand, there are small and unexplained things that partake in these scenarios, sticking out like a sore thumb. This addition of unexplained, disturbing entities displays the eerie mood. Such as in The Hitchhiker, where the protagonist, Adams, reacts to these encounters the same way any sane person would do, putting the reader into their shoes and subsequently affecting the mood. One such instance is when Adams stops at a stop sign, and the strange hitchhiker hails him. “Hall-ooo” he hails, Hall-ooo!” And Adams, being a sane, relatable protagonist quickly shoots down the street in a panicked frenzy.
