What is Important, Magnesium, Chromium or Nitrogen? When Democritus first discovered atoms, he had questioned, “If you break a piece of matter in half, and then break it in half again, how many breaks will you have to make before you can break it no further?” All atoms compose elements in which have uses currently in our domain. These elements, have economical values, environmental influences, as well as generate a service within our society. Through the fragments of history we have learned the purposes and prominence of certain elements in our world. When he discovered the Epsom salt, he was able to use it as a medicinal substance. Epsom’s salt’s reputation ranged across the globe. Epsom salt became retitled into magnesium sulphate. Joseph Black was a Scottish physician and chemist who soon accepted magnesium as an element. Magnesium is typically in the solid state of form. Magnesium is a silvery, white metal. This element has a hexagonal structure. Magnesium can be revolved into thin sheets of metal, and is able to be flexible and can be moulded into different shapes. It has high lustre (very shiny). This substance is very lenient, with a melting point of 651 degrees Celsius and a freezing point of 1,100 degrees Celsius. Magnesium’s chemical formula is mg, and is an alloy as well as a compound. This substance burns in air, and reacts with heat applied to it. This substance bonds with oxygen to form a thin sheet of magnesium oxide. “Magnesium is compulsory for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body”. It keeps in contact/balances movement of muscles, nerves, and creates a durable immune system. Nitrogen makes up 78% of the earth’s atmosphere while oxygen makes up 22% of the rest. Nitrogen is obtained from a process called fractional distillation. “Nitrogen is a non-metallic gas”. Nitrogen has the atomic number 7 and is an element with the letter N to label the substance within the periodic table. Nitrogen is colorless, odourless, and tasteless. This substance is acknowledged as a diatomic gas. Nitrogen is known to have a melting point of 63.15K as well as well as 77.36K. Nitrogen compounds were well-known of during the Middle Ages. Alchemists called this substance aqua fortis another word known as durable water. It was renowned for its action of dissolving gold. During the earliest times of military and agriculture, nitrogen compound named potassium nitrate was used as gun powder for the military. Afterward this substance was used as a fertilizer in agriculture. Nitrogen is known as a seventh of the total wealth within our society. Nitrogen is known to be a very rare element in earth, and is never found within the rocky planets of the solar system. Nitrogen is found within living organisms such examples would include DNA and RNA. The human body is made up of 3% nitrogen. “Nitrogen resides in the chemical structure of almost all neurotransmitters and is a defining component of alkaloids, biological molecules produced as secondary metabolites by many organisms.”

...EXPERIMENT 1  DETERMINATION OF DISSOLVED OXYGEN IN WATER    INTRODUCTION    The dissolved oxygen content is an important index when considering its suitability for town  supply.  A good clean potable water will give dissolved oxygen value close to the theoretical value for  the saturated solution of oxygen in water.  When there is pollution from organic matter and other  trade effluents, the dissolved oxygen is up in various biochemical oxidation processes and its is only  slowly replaced through surface absorption.  Such water will give a low dissolved oxygen content  until oxidation is completed.  Adequate dissolved oxygen is necessary for the life of fish and other  aquatic organisms.    The methods described below for the determination of oxygen in water is based on that  devised by Winkler.  When manganese hydroxide is precipitated in the water sample it is quickly  oxidized to higher hydrated oxides (probably in the four valent state) by the dissolve oxygen.  Iodine,  equivalent to the dissolved oxygen content, is then liberated on acidification in the presence of  iodine, and it may be titrated with standard thio‐sulphate.    INTERFERENCES AND PRE – TREATMENT    Most oxidising and reducing substances e.g dissolved organic substances, nitrite ions,  higher‐valency manganese compounds, active chlorine, sulphide and sulphite ions, iron (II) and irons  interfere.    The influence of the dissolved organic substances can be excluded by conversion of the  manganese hydroxides...

Brewing begins with malted barley that is milled and mixed with hot water to form a mash. During mashing, the malt starches are converted to sugars. The sugar rich water is then strained through the bottom of the mash and is now called wort. The wort then goes to the brew kettle where it is brought to a boil. During this stage, hops are added at different times during the boil for either bitterness or aroma. The wort is then cooled and aerated, and brewers' yeast is added for fermentation. The yeast produces alcohol and carbon dioxide and other byproducts from the sweet wort. After fermentation the "green beer" undergoes maturation. The last step in the brewing process is filtration, and then carbonation. Next the beer is moved to a holding tank where it stays until it is bottled or kegged.
