During the Pre-Cambrian era more specifically the Proterozoic period there was numerous orogenic events that were crucial in shaping the Pre-Cambrian craton of North America. Starting with the early Proterozoic which spans 1800-2400 Mya it is broken down into two periods: Penokean and the Huronian. During Penokean period, which is shown by major deformations, which were caused by plutonism in North-Central United States. During the Huronian period was highlighted by deformations and high-grade metamorphisms due to intrusions. In the Middle Proterozoic (1200-1800 Mya) there was some thermal metamorphism.
