Comparison Paper Although, public health and community health entities deal with many of the same issues, the terms cannot be used interchangeably. Research must be performed on the various levels of public and community health in order to understand these differences. This paper will discuss the research that was conducted on county, state and national public resources and discuss the differences that were noted.
Public Health Resources
There are many different public and community health resources and programs provided at the county, state and national levels. Nurses across all facets of the profession should be aware of what programs are available to them and their patients. This knowledge can help guide the nurse in providing appropriate resources and care to those who need them.
County Public Health Resources The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) has many different programs and services available to the residents of the county. Depending of the program sought by the individual, there are various services that meet financial, cultural and medical needs of the client. In order to qualify for these programs patients must meet certain criteria. For example, the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a nutritional program for women with children. WIC provides nutritional education in individual and group settings, breast feeding support and education, and financial support to buy healthy foods. To qualify for this program you must be a woman that is pregnant, recently had a baby, or has a child less than 5 years of age. The client must also meet certain income requirements as well (Women, Infants & Children, 2014). Erin Condor is a social worker who works within the community health system. In an interview, she described programs that cater to the

...be asked to write papers in which you compare and contrast two things: two texts, two theories, two historical figures, two scientific processes, and so on. "Classic" compare-and-contrast papers, in which you weight A and B equally, may be about two similar things that have crucial differences (two pesticides with different effects on the environment) or two similar things that have crucial differences, yet turn out to have surprising commonalities (two politicians with vastly different world views who voice unexpectedly similar perspectives on sexual harassment). In the "lens" (or "keyhole") comparison, in which you weight A less heavily than B, you use A as a lens through which to view B. Just as looking through a pair of glasses changes the way you see an object, using A as a framework for understanding B changes the way you see B. Lens comparisons are useful for illuminating, critiquing, or challenging the stability of a thing that, before the analysis, seemed perfectly understood. Often, lens comparisons take time into account: earlier texts, events, or historical figures may illuminate later ones, and vice versa. Faced with a daunting list of seemingly unrelated similarities and differences, you may feel confused about how to construct a paper that isn't just a mechanical exercise in which you first state all the features that A and B have in common, and then state all the ways in which A and B are different. Predictably, the thesis of such a paper is usually an assertion...

...structure, making any ingenuity to fall by the wayside. Go over the rules on how to write a general essay, and then structure your compare/contrast essay in one of the following two formats: 1. Introduction Your introduction — like the five-paragraph-essay, should open generally (with a quotation, anecdote, generalization), and lead into the thesis statement. 2. Topic 1 This next portion of your essay (which may consist of one paragraph or several) should cover only the first topic of the comparison and contrast. Compare/Contrast essays take two topics and illustrate how they are similar and dissimilar. Do not mention topic 2 in this first portion. 3. Topic 2 This next portion of your essay (which may also consist of one or more paragraphs) should cover the second of the two topics. Do not discuss Topic 1 in this section. Since you have already gone into great detail about it, you may allude to Topic 1 briefly; however, do not analyze Topic 1 in this section. This portion of the paper is to discuss Topic 2 in great detail. 4. Topics 1 and 2 Together Now that you have analyzed both Topic 1 and Topic 2 independently, now it is time to analyze them together. This section may also be one or several paragraphs. 5. Conclusion The conclusion — like the introduction — should be a generalization of the thesis. This paragraph should express your certainty and absolute knowledge on the subject matter. You should reaffirm your thesis (essentially restate it in new words) and show...

Comparing Online Shopping with Traditional Shopping

...shopping has grown to new heights over the last decade and shows no signs of slowing down. The internet has brought practically every store in the world to the fingertips of anyone with internet access. Shopping online gives the user the opportunity to search for the product they want through endless avenues. Online shopping has grown so large that many companies are not investing in buildings and mall space, rather in online websites and web advertising. Through this paper I will discuss the reasons why shopping online is a better alternative to traditional shopping. The first benefit of online shopping is the convenience. While others are out fighting traffic and waiting in lines, online shoppers are home relaxing. Online shoppers can go from store to store with a flick of a mouse, while traditional shoppers have to walk, drive or can’t get to the stores they want. Online shoppers also benefit when it comes to comparison shopping. Traditional shoppers have to put a lot of work into comparison shopping. They have to drive from place to place find items and price and go onto the next place. This can be exhausting and stressful. The online shopper can do this from his or her couch. Online shoppers can search the planet for the product they are looking for, while traditional shoppers are limited to a small area. When it comes to seeing, touching, and trying out a new product, there is no substitute for actually going to the mall and examining the item in...

Compare and Contrast

...Keiyonna young Ms. Herzog Communications 27 July 2015 Literary Comparison: Deception at its greatest All it takes is a beautiful fake smile to hide an injured soul and they will never notice how broken you really are! -Unknown In this paper I will briefly compare two pieces of literature and their authors. The first is “We Wear the Mask (1896)” by Paul Laurence Dunbar and "Richard Cory (1897)" by Edward Arlington Robinson. I really enjoy poetry and was amazed at the similarities found in these two pieces despite the very noticeable difference in the authors. I started of my paper with a quote from an unknown author which will help set the tone for the two poems I will be comparing. This quote describes something we all have at one time or another. We all have at some point in our lives encountered (or will encounter) a time where we have to do or go through something that we did not want to do or experience. A time where we cannot let on to others what we are truly feeling inside. Whether it is at work or staying strong for family or friends or just putting on a front for the world. These two authors wrote poems about this very thing. Paul L Dunbar was born in Dayton Ohio on June 22, 1872 to parents who had been enslaved prior to the civil war. Just about 3 years earlier Edward Arlington Robinson was born on December 22, 1869. His parents were very well off. There is so much to be said about the lives of these two great men and the things that they...

...com/grammar/writerworkshops/GFW8_WM_compare.pdf WHAT THIS HANDOUT IS ABOUT This handout will help you first to determine whether a particular assignment is asking for comparison/contrast and then to generate a list of similarities and differences, decide which similarities and differences to focus on, and organize your paper so that it will be clear and effective. It will also explain how you can (and why you should) develop a thesis that goes beyond “Thing A and Thing B are similar in many ways but different in others.” INTRODUCTION In your career as a student, you’ll encounter many different kinds of writing assignments, each with its own requirements. One of the most common is the comparison/contrast essay, in which you focus on the ways in which certain things or ideas—usually two of them—are similar to (this is the comparison) and/or different from (this is the contrast) one another. By assigning such essays, your instructors are encouraging you to make connections between texts or ideas, engage in critical thinking, and go beyond mere description or summary to generate interesting analysis: when you reflect on similarities and differences, you gain a deeper understanding of the items you are comparing, their relationship to each other, and what is most important about them. RECOGNIZING COMPARISON/CONTRAST IN ASSIGNMENTS Some assignments use words—like compare, contrast, similarities, and differences—that make it easy for you to see that they are asking you to compare...

Personal Reflection Paper

...Personal Reflection Paper Personal Reflection Paper In this paper, I am going to identify a point of time in which I experienced invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization. While identifying theses to aspects, I am also going to address how to stop invidious comparison. As well as identifying strategies that I use to avoid vicarious traumatization in my own personal life. I will also go in to depth to show how to avoid vicarious traumatization as a human service worker. Lastly, I am going to address the strategies that can be considered or developed to avoid vicarious traumatization. What is invidious comparison? Invidious comparison is the comparing yourself to others. It can be through race, sexual orientation, and religion. Invidious comparison can make a person feel that their self-worth is not wanted and even take its toll on the person doing the comparison themselves. It can send you into a depressive state where you develop levels of stress. To stop invidious comparison, we must first get an understanding on others and accept the different views that other may possess. Everyone is different in their own way. There will also be an individual that may excel in different things that you may have thought you were good in. Some may be incapable of abilities that one may have. By understanding these aspects we must acknowledge the strengths that we have and do not have without dwelling on the weaknesses of others. Everywhere we go there are comparisons, it is important...

Comparing/Contrasting

...Your goal is to write an essay showing how two subjects are either similar or different (not both). When comparing subjects, show how they are similar. When contrasting them, show how they are different. In a comparison/contrast paper, be sure to develop a thesis that includes words that signal comparisons, such as “although,” “even though,” “in spite of,” “except for,” “not withstanding,” or “but.” Also, use appropriate transitions to signal comparisons and link paragraphs within the body of your paper, such as “on the other hand,” “in contrast,” “similarly,” “also,” “both,” “even though,” and “in the same way.” In order for two things to be worth comparing, the two things should initially appear to be different. In order for two things to be worth contrasting, the two things should initially appear to be similar. Comparing and contrasting are ways of exploring the similarities and differences between two things. 'Compare and contrast' is often used as a development strategy for essay assignments but it's a helpful strategy for any important decisions you have to make. Generally speaking, comparing is showing the similarities, and contrasting is showing differences between two things that are related in some way. For example, you wouldn't compare/contrast reading a book to driving a car, but you would compare reading a book to reading with an e-reader. COMPARING com·pare (kəm-pâr′) v. com·pared, com·par·ing, com·pares v.tr. 1. To consider or describe as similar, equal...

Reflection Paper

...Personal Reflection Paper By: Heather Bennett Course: BSHS/345 Due: 9/7/2015 Instructor: Rina Wallace Invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization are two things that everyone will experience in their lifetime. I can personally say that I have experienced both of them many times in my lifetime and still struggle with them to this day. In this paper I am going to explain how both of these can be damaging not only to you but to everyone who is involved. I’m going to talk about an event in my life that I have experienced, ways to stop invidious comparison, strategies that I personally use to avoid vicarious traumatization in my own life, and if those strategies will work to ensure that I will avoid vicarious traumatization as a human service worker, and what other strategies I could develop that would be helpful to avoid vicarious traumatization. In my lifetime I have compared myself to others so much that it has damaged my confidence, one instance that stands out to me was when I was going into Jr. high school. My family didn’t have a lot of money to buy me those nice clothes that everyone else wearing and I found myself comparing what I wore to what everyone else had. I was so hard on myself I would pretend to be sick just so I didn’t have to go to school. I got so self conscious about it that every time I heard anyone laugh or seen someone whispering I thought it was about me. I was so busy focusing on the fact that everyone had better things then I did...

Hair Fiber

...characteristics of hair differ in different parts of the body. If a person tries to compare head hair to pubic hair, for instance, a match will probably not be made. Most hair comparisons deal with either head or pubic hair. If collecting head hair, a typical sampling can usually by obtained with about 50 full-length hairs. Approximately two dozen full-length pubic hairs are needed for a good sample. It is necessary to collect the entire length of each strand of hair, because a hair can show variation in color or other physical characteristics throughout the strand. If the size or the length of each piece of hair falls below the minimum, it can be very difficult to form any connections based on the evidence. When collecting fibers, careful examination of all fiber carriers is imperative. It is important to have somebody at the scene to specifically look for fiber clues because this kind of evidence cannot be seen with the naked eye. Clothing that could contain fibers should be bagged separately in paper bags. Every item must be bagged separately to avoid the chance of cross-contaminating the evidence. Also all items such as carpets and bedding should be individually folded and packaged to protect fiber evidence. If a fiber must be removed, it should be removed with tongs and placed in a small sheet of paper. Once that has been folded and labeled, it should be put in another container for safekeeping. Failure...

Personal Reflection Paper

...Personal Reflection Paper Nikia Crump BSHS 345 Seanee Alexander July 6, 2015 Introduction This paper will focus on a personal experience with vicarious traumatization as well as invidious comparison. Will focus on how to avoid vicarious traumatization in your personal/ work life and ways to strategize to avoid this. These will also be strategies that I use as a Human Service professional to avoid traumatiztion as well. How to Stop Invidious Comparison We have to realize that we are all different and no two people are the same in any way, but as humans we have a natural tendency to constantly compare ourselves to others that we may see on a daily basis or those that we see on television. It is normal to do this to merely evaluate the similarities and differences between yourself and others. In today’s society we have turned in to comparison junkies and this is something that starts at birth with comparing babies on who’s the cutest and then it just carries over throughout the years into adulthood. * We have to learn that comparing ourselves with others is a bad habit and is a sign of low self esteem. Today’s society does project flawlessness within everyone nowadays and that is an untruth, because no one is perfect. *Understanding that everybody is different because that’s just how we are and how we were meant to be. Everyone is born different even with twins, they may look alike, but they have different mindsets, different experiences, and...

With advent of IT and shift of focus toward Financial Banks & Institutions, a need is felt to have some faster & feasible way to compare records with high volume. That is the starting point for this paper under which an Automation Framework for Comparison Phase of Regression Testing is built in Perl, that could easily cover records of any volume. Use of Industry Compliant Methodology, named Best Match, made the framework even more flexible for scenarios having duplicate records on either of the two parallel sides. Best practice Data Structures like Hash are being used in the implementation that have fasten up the parsing & key pattern filtering, hence lowering down the overall comparison & summary generation time. Use of programming language Perl has made the framework platform or operating system independent as the implementation code can easily be run on any OS, like Unix, Sun,...

Make sure you know the basis for comparison The assignment sheet may say exactly what you need to compare, or it may ask you to come up with a basis for comparison yourself. • Provided by the question: The question may ask that you consider the gradual loss of morals by major characters in Yann Martel’s Life of Pi and George Orwell’s Animal Farm. The basis for comparison will be the loss of morals by central figures in each text. • Developed by you: The question may simply ask that you compare the two novels. If so, you will need to develop a basis for comparison, that is, a theme, concern, or device common to both works from which you can draw similarities and differences. Develop a list of similarities and differences Once you know your basis for comparison, think critically about the similarities and differences between the items you are comparing, and compile a list of them. For example, you might decide that in Life of Pi, Pi simultaneously experiences a gradual loss of morals as his chances of survival are put more and more at risk, whereas in Animal Farm, Napoleon always possessed questionable morals which become further...
