Pickens vs Pepperell
The Pickens Dragons football team traveled to Berry College last Friday to take on the Pepperell Dragons for their second game of the season. Pepperell won the toss and elected to defer giving the ball to Pickens first, and they didn’t take long to turn that first drive into points. On a drive that consisted of five passes, including two long passes to Zach Goss who would catch the last one for a 27 yard touchdown and an early 7-0 lead for Pickens.
Pepperell thought would answer on their first drive going on a 10 play drive that ended with a four yard touchdown run. They followed that up with a little trickery on the PAT and managed to convert for an 8-7 lead still in the first quarter. Pickens would not be deterred…show more content… Pickens, trying to answer would drive the ball deep into Pepperell territory where they were faced with a 4th and 2 form the 5 yard line. The defense came up big and got the stop giving the ball back to their offense with 95 yards to go, and that’s exactly what they did, it took 12 plays to cover the 95 yards and they pushed their lead to 32-21 in the third quarter.
Pickens would get the ball back and needing to score to stay in the game, they pushed the ball into Pepperell territory but were stopped on a 4th down interception that put the ball back in the hands of the Pepperell offense. It would be short lived though as the defense came away with a fumble on the first play of the drive when Jay Jones fell on the loose ball putting Pickens back in control on offense Brumby connected with Goss for their second score of the game and cutting the lead to 32-28 in favor of Pepperell.
The teams would trade the ball back and forth through Punts and turnover on downs on their next two possessions before Pepperell would take control for good. On their next possession they found the end zone for what proved to be the deciding points and put the game out of reach at 39-28 with just over two minutes left to
