Compass and torch

The story is written by, the English writer Elisabeth Baines. Elisabeth lives in Manchester and have been a teacher for some years back. The story was published in 2003 in a book, with many other stories that she has written.
The story is about a boy, who is going on a camping trip with his father, which he has not seen in 4 years. Which parents are divorced. His mother has gotten a new boyfriend who’s name is Jim. And he has moved in with them. But the boys’ father also wants to spend some time with his son. So the boy and his father are going on a camping trip on a mountain. But when the father comes to get his son, he starts to discuss with the boys’ mother, she don’t want her son to go, she think it is too dangerous. And the boy is searching for his torch. And he hears them when he goes down the stairs. But then they are going to camping. And when they start to walk on the mountain, they find’s out that they forgot their compass. And the boy freaks out, but then there is a man who has a compass. And then they continue to walk with the man. And they then reach the top of the mountain. And after that they keep walking. And then they are setting their tent up.
In the story we don’t get many details about the boy. We don’t even know his name. What we do know is that he is 8 years old, and that he haven not seen his father for four months. The rest of the characterization is made by reading between the lines, because there are a lot of indirect impressions and emotions in the text. For example is it pretty clear that the boy likes his father better that his stepdad, Jim. Already in the first lines it becomes clear just how much the boy appreciates his father, that he is amazed by every little thing his father does. Just how
