So me and my brother decided to prove them wrong. We increased how much we read. We started to improve our pronunciation, we knew we had no disabilty. During middle school and high school we excelled in our remedial courses. During 10th grade we were exit the remedial program and placed in standard class, but we were in 9th grade class I was allowed to have a teacher aid present in class. I did not know what to do, I was too afraid to ask for help in any of my class. I failed majority of my classes. I was kicked out of my mother's house. So I joined the army, two years into my contract I wanted to go back to school. This time I knew what I wanted to study and it was math. During the rest of my active time I researched everything about mathematics. I started to become obsess with it and soon the same fuel that ignited the flame in me during high school reignited again. This time I'm proving to myself and only myself what I can do as a person. This determination or obsession for knowledge has led me to my passion for math, to teaching myself another language, to learning to play the violin, to rock climbing. These are my accomplishments. 2 years ago I never knew french. Now I travel to France to build upon what I know and improve my communication skills. I can play violon in an intermediate orchestra or chamber music after three years of dedicated studying. When I set my mind to anything I will

Proffessional Development

...defined as an attempt to help the individual analyse their abilities and interests to guide their placement, progression, and development through various assessment activities (Gunnigle & Flood, 1990, p. 172). Literature suggests that the effectiveness of several management and professional development activities can be enhanced by paying attention to managerial self-awareness and variables related to self-awareness like self-efficacy (McCarthy & Garavan, 1999). Admundson (1995), argues that the two key variables that moderate career decisions are the individual’s self-awareness and self-efficacy which are essential because high levels of self-awareness and self-efficacy enables the individual to exert more control over long term effects and are in a better posistion to respond proactively to situations. Q1. Understanding Human Behavior Is Critical to Organizations – Discuss the Benefits of Self Evaluation/Self Assessment as It Relates to Leaders Today

...discuss the benefits of self evaluation/self assessment as it relates to leaders today. Understanding human behavior is critical to managers at all levels inside any organization. Individual managers within the organization can especially benefit from conducting self-evaluations. It is essential for managers to be self -ware and understand how their own behavior and personality can give them a better perspective while working with others. Being self-aware allows one to recognize and improve their strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize their leadership potential. In Organizational Behavior, Robins & Judge (13th Edition) tell us that organizational behavior is the knowledge gained about individuals, groups and the effect of structure on behavior in order to make organizations work more effectively. A major goal for any organization should be to work more effectively and to continuously make improvements, this is summarized by the Japanese Philosophy of Kaizen. For an organization to strive to continuously improve the leadership and management must adapt and learn. There are many ways in which a manager can strive to improve and one of those is through self-evaluation. What is a self-assessment or evaluation? Daniel Goleman (2000. Page 80) tells us that an accurate self-assessment is a “realistic evaluation of your strengths and limitations” . A manager conducting a self-evaluation can evaluate and...

Research Paper

...Over the past 10 years, human resource and organizational development professionals have generated a lot of interest in the notion of competencies as a key element and measure of human performance. Competencies are becoming a frequently-used and written-about vehicle for organizational applications such as: * Defining the factors for success in jobs (i.e., work) and work roles within the organization * Assessing the current performance and future development needs of persons holding jobs and roles * Mapping succession possibilities for employees within the organization * Assigning compensation grades and levels to particular jobs and roles * Selecting applicants for open positions, using competency-based interviewing techniques Competencies include the collection of success factors necessary for achieving important results in a specific job or work role in a particular organization. Success factors are combinations of knowledge, skills, and attributes (more historically called "KSA's") that are described in terms of specific behaviors, and are demonstrated by superior performers in those jobs or work roles. Attributes include: personal characteristics, traits, motives, values or ways of thinking that impact an individual's behavior.
