Comprehensive reading for an active young adult , who is a busy parent, full time employee, and extremely active can be time consuming. For these catagories of people, my advice is to set the goal, prioritize, plan accordingly and manage time effectively during the week.
If the goal is to comprehensively read 100 pages in a weeks worth, my advice is to consider reading in between the working hours, parent hours, and the other activities hours. This will allow for the reading material not to interfere with any other activities.
Prioritizing is putting the most important task at the top. For these categories of people, my advice is consider the full time job to be the top priority, since it is what he/she gets paid to do. Second, it will be parent time, third will be reading time, leaving the other activity time for last. Also, keep in mind that at times the unexpected can take priority. Factors to consider are taking a sick child to the doctor or perhaps he or she can become sick and requires medical attention.
Planning can help these categories of people accomplish more and feel more in control of their life. My advice to start is by taking several minutes to write down what he or she hopes to accomplish in a week. Using a weekly planner, he or she can begin by blocking the times he or she plans to use for work, parenting, and reading since these can be planned in advance and are not as flexible as the other activity hours.
Time management is using the time wisely to accomplish the goal. Before beginning to read, my advice is to choose a reading time where he or she plans to have minimal distractions and can concentrate to comprehend the reading material. My advice is to block the time when he or she feels most productive. But, to keep in mind to plan for a place that is well lit and is most comfortable. At the beginning of each week day, my advice is to consider reading at home, before going to work. Perhaps getting up an hour earlier to read may help. During work hours, my advice to consider reading while having a coffee break, and on the lunch break. Reading during a fifteen minutes coffee break and thirty minute lunch break can really add up. Parent time may involve using an hour to take the children to the park. My advice is to consider taking the reading material to the park and if possible do more reading. Before going to sleep my advice is to read for an hour, possibilities in where to read are perhaps in the bedroom or in the study room. If the reading material is difficult to comprehend, consider shortening the reading time, since this will allow him or her to take a break, relax, or otherwise refresh or re-energize.
In conclusion, if these categories of people set the goals, prioritize, plan, and use their time wisely during a week it will help him or her to achieve his or her purpose. I will also advice him or her to consider a healthy lifestyle since it can improve focus and concentration and help comprehend the reading material.

...asked or resurrected back in the back in the1980s. A gentleman by the name of Rudolf Flesh did a comprehensive and in debt study on this issue. Mr. Flesh realized that the United States had a very high illiteracy rate and major reading problem and how television had a major effect on an individual’s reading ability. He surmised that, television instilled learning of memorization by word association. Remember Sesame Street. His answer the issue was phonic or phonetics, with the understanding that comprehension would come later. Remember Hooked on Phonics. In America today, most children are beginning or trying to talk around the age of two years. This is a time when language skills are just starting to develop. Even though it usually too early of an age to expect a child to read, there is no reason why the parent cannot start the reading process by reading aloud to them. Instilling reading into a child’s life can prove to be one of the most valuable skills that they will ever learn. (http://www.mannmuseum.com n.d) William and Johnson conducted an experiment to test a hypothesis or theory as to whether perceptual skills training will enhance reading performance of adolescence in school age children. As a basis for their study these adolescence where placed into three experimental groups of different categories. They are as follows: 1st. Remedial reading instructions, 2nd Reading instructions with spatial skills training and 3rd untreated control group. The study infers that...

I did this by buying and collecting books to donate to the libraries that serve Turning Point Academy students in order to increase their reading opportunities and their learning environment. This project has reminded me that reading is a joy that belongs in every one’s life and should be considered a privilege more than as a right. Reading is amazing. In fact, amazing doesn’t even begin to describe how unbelievably valuable reading is in one’s life. The dictionary definition of reading is “the action or skill of reading written or printed matter silently or aloud,” (Webster’s Dictionary). This definition doesn’t adequately describe reading because it does not fully portray the valuable benefits...

Media Sources

...sources I used in the previous weeks of this course. The media sources I used for this week’s topics included the textbook, the online videos provided, and my wife. I used the text book for most of the assignments this week. I felt like the text book for week 2 and week 3 did a good job of explaining the meanings of the topics presented and did not require additional readings. Chapter thirteen introduced the concept of sustainable income, or “the most likely level of income to be obtained in the future.”(Kimmel, Weygandt, Kieso, 2011). Chapter thirteen also explains how irregular items are presented, comprehensive income, the horizontal analysis, vertical analysis, how to compute ratios, and the concept of quality of earnings. Another valuable media source was the online videos. The video “Balancing the Books: Understanding Financial Reporting” discusses accounting tools, how the balance sheet works, profit and loss, and other topics. Like the previous videos, this video directly relates to and supports the topics in the text. Also, like the videos in previous weeks, the video is a nice change of pace from reading long text. I actually liked the videos used in week two more than the video used in this week’s lesson. The “Jeopardy” style video was a little boring and the way the contestant flashed back to his experiences made it a little drawn out for my taste, however I understand the attempt to make the concepts more interesting. The other resource I used this week that I did...

... JPPSS ELA COURSE GUIDE 2011-2012 ENGLISH I The JPPSS Instructional Sequence Guides are aligned with the LA Comprehensive Curriculum. JPPSS Implementation of Activities in the Classroom Incorporation of activities into lesson plans is critical to the successful implementation of the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum. The Comprehensive Curriculum indicates one way to align instruction with Louisiana standards, benchmarks, and grade-level expectations. The curriculum is aligned with state content standards, as defined by grade-level expectations (GLEs), and organized into coherent, time-bound units with sample activities and classroom assessments to guide teaching and learning. The units in the curriculum have been arranged so that the content to be assessed will be taught before the state testing dates. While teachers may substitute equivalent activities and assessments based on the instructional needs, learning styles, and interests of their students, the Comprehensive Curriculum should be a primary resource when planning instruction. Grade level expectations—not the textbook—should determine the content to be taught. Textbooks and other instructional materials should be used as resource in teaching the grade level expectations...

Nt1310 Unit 1 Case Study

According to Vacca et al. (2015) basal reading programs are the most popular materials used for reading instruction in the country (p. 372). In literature based programs the teacher uses model language for the students. “Literature based instruction approaches accommodate individual student differences in reading abilities and at the same time focus on meaning, interest, and enjoyment” (Vacca et al., 2015, p. 46). I believe that there are different methods of research that I can do to evaluate the effectiveness of a basal reading program and a literature-based program....

Research Paper On Dyslexia

...These articles talk all about dyslexia, what the symptoms or signs are as well as professional diagnosis and current research. From reading one of the articles I found what dyslexia is not. It is not in anyway a form of low intelligence or laziness. It also does not occur because of poor vision. It simply happens because the brain is wired differently. Dyslexia occurs because of a common condition that affects the way that the child’s brain processes written and spoken language. Children who have dyslexia can still understand complex concepts. They just may need a little more time to work through the information given to them. In another article it talked about how dyslexia is known as a failure to learn how to read words and sentences and it affects students in anywhere from 5-20%....

Early Reading Strategy

...Early Reading Strategy - Help for Children With Reading Difficulties This report opens with a firm conviction: "A child's success in school and throughout life depends in large part on the ability to read. Educators in Ontario have the profound challenge of making reading a reality for all children." Many young children experience some kind of difficulty learning to read. For many children, reading difficulties can be identified in Kindergarten or Grade 1 and can be prevented or substantially reduced, but often they are not. Research findings on early reading difficulties are very clear: children who continue to experience difficulties in Grade 3 seldom catch up in later grades. The consequences are well documented. These children are at risk of failing school and dropping out, and they may have limited career opportunities in adulthood. Therefore, it is important to have the conditions and resources – including time, manageable class size, materials, and learning opportunities – that enable teachers to meet the challenges of ensuring that all children learn to read. The Nature of Reading Difficulties The foundations of good reading are the same for all children. All readers, regardless of their age, gender, or aptitude, need to develop fluency, comprehension, and the motivation to read in order to become successful readers. Children who experience reading difficulties are no exception. They too must develop the basic foundations for reading, and they require the same types...

National Early Literacy Panel

...literacy acquisition, but there are several important pieces to the puzzle that remain to be addressed. The charge to the NELP was to determine what instructional practices promote the development of children’s early literacy skills. Toward that end, the panel posed four questions: 1. What are the skills and abilities of young children (birth through 5 years or kindergarten) that predict later reading, writing, or spelling outcomes? 2. Which instructional approaches or procedures contribute to gains in children’s skills and abilities that are linked to later outcomes in reading, writing, or spelling? 3. What environments and settings are related to improvements in children’s skills and abilities that are linked to later literacy outcomes? 4. What child characteristics are related to gains in children’s skills and abilities that are linked to later literacy outcomes? To set the foundations for their study, the researchers looked at different measurements of pre-reading skills and identified six domains of early literacy that can serve as valid indicators of later reading skills. * Knowing the names and sounds associated with printed letters (known as "alphabet awareness") * Ability to detect and manipulate the auditory aspects of spoken language ("phonological awareness") * Rapid...

Independent Reading

...CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION 1.1 Reading Reading is a multifaceted process involving word recognition, comprehension, fluency and motivation. It is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning (reading comprehension). It is a means of language acquisition of communication, and of sharing information and ideas. Like all language, it is a complex interaction between the text and the reader which is shaped by the reader’s prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and language community which is culturally and socially situated. The reading process requires continuous practice, development and refinement. Reading is making meaning from print, it requires that we: i. Identify the words in print – a process called word recognition. ii. Construct an understanding from them – a process called comprehension. iii. Coordinate identifying words and making meaning so that reading is automatic and accurate – an achievement called fluency. Sometimes you can make meaning from print without being able to identify all the words. Sometimes you can identify words without being able to construct much meaning from them. Sometimes you can identify words and comprehend them, but if the processes don’t come together smoothly, reading will still be a labored process. Reading in its fullest sense involves weaving together word recognition and comprehension in a fluent manner. These three processes are complex and each is important. i. To develop word recognition...

Reading is considered one of the most important skills that children require to successfully access the school curriculum as well as it is the foundation for future progress and success in virtually all other facets of life. Children who achieve reading in early age, they are better prepared to be successful in life than children with a history of reading deficits (Alberto et al., 2007). Although the importance of reading, not all children develop adequate reading, with children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) being one group identified at risk of reading difficulty.
