...Computer Concepts Introduction Computer systems are extremely complex objects. Even the smallest systems consist of millions of individual parts. Each part is relatively simple in its function and easy to understand. It is only when these millions of simple parts interact with each other that we develop the complex structures that comprise our modern computing systems. In this lesson, we take a brief look at the major components of a computing system. In subsequent lessons, we will study each component in more detail. Many people have tried to classify computing systems in different ways, always with difficulty. We will look at some of the terminology used to describe different types of computing systems, from the ubiquitous micro to the extremely powerful supercomputer. Common terms, such as hardware and software, will be discussed. Different methods of processing data and information will be explained. After this brief survey, we will come back, in later lessons, and explore in greater detail the topics introduced here. Data and information processing have been previously defined as the transformation of unorganised raw material or data into useful information. This processing may be done manually or with the help of mechanical and electronic devices. It is common to refer to the collection of personnel, equipment, software, and procedures that perform the data and information processing functions as an information processing system. Very often, when a computer is...

...Face recognition is a biometric technique that uses computer software to determine the identity of a person. It is used to verify a person from a digital image or video frame. In facial recognition the selected facial features from the image are compared with a facial database. It is used in security systems. Recognition is important in human beings as it helps in identification of people, and acts as a social tool. It helps in identification of people to socialize with in the society (Rakover &Cahlon, 2001). Using facial recognition people are able to identify who to socialize with, or who not to socialize with in the society. This is because people use facial recognition skills to socialize, and survive in the society. For example, men are able to identify the women to socialize with, or establish relationship with. This helps in increasing population in the society. Facial recognition is also shown by the relationship between the mother, and the child (Rakover &Cahlon, 2001). The bond is strengthened through facial recognition. Facial recognition also helps in communication. This is because through facial recognition one is able to portray his emotional status. ... Running Head: INVESTIGATING YOUR OWN MENTAL MODELS 1. 1. Describe the mental model thoroughly, including its origins, how long it has been established, conversations you have heard about it, etc. According to Hrepic (2011), “wider studies of mental model definitions show that no consensus exists about the definition of the term mental model and “some definitions of the concept are even contradictory.” “Canas and Antol”, believe the main reason for disagreements in the definition of the mental model is that the term has been used by researchers who work in different fields and who focused on its different aspects. However, “Van der Veer” believes that although there is no agreement about the exact definition of the concept, in general, “mental model” refers to the internal representations that people form of the environment through their interaction with it”(p. 1). In other words, mental models are believed to be assumptions, beliefs, generalizations even stereotypes of a person’s belief system that is often generated by their experiences. According to Senge (2006), “our mental models determine not only how we make sense of the world, but how we take action. Philosophers have discussed mental models for centuries, going back at least to Plato’s parable of the cave; “The...

...Facility Planning Part 2 Pamela Jackson HCS/446 September 28, 2015 Rachel Rivera Facility Planning – Part II Facility planning for a health care organization or outpatient clinic takes on its own unique regulatory requirements. Regulatory requirements are requirements that have been mandated by various federal, states, and local municipalities regarding the operation and safety of business operations as well as services provided. They are the legal fence between education and catastrophe.”The basic regulatory frameworks and acts that govern the present business operations include Sarbanes Oxley Act ([SOX], 2002), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (1999), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ([HIPAA], 1996).” (Ezinearticles.com 2012) The main purpose of these regulatory requirements and tools is to ensure that society as a whole reap the benefits through accountability, integrity and confidentiality. The impact on regulatory requirements is based on how they are implemented. Regulatory Requirements Effect on the Design and Equipment Many times when planning a facility for use in an outpatient clinic it is important to research the regulatory requirements for equipment utilized in the care of patients and how it will impact the over all care, safety and wellness of the organization. The design of health care facilities is governed by many regulations and technical requirements. It is also affected by many less defined needs and pressures. The facility must...

...Case 70 Computer Concepts/CompuTech Merger Analysis QUESTIONS Question 1 Several factors have been proposed as providing a rationale for mergers. Among the more prominent ones are (1) tax considerations, (2) diversification, (3) control, (4) purchase of assets below replacement cost, and (5) synergy. From the standpoint of society, which of these reasons are justifiable? Which are not? Why is such a question relevant to a company like CompuTech, which is considering a specific acquisition? Explain your answers. Answer: Synergy is by far the most socially justifiable reason for mergers. Synergy occurs when the value of the combined enterprise exceeds the sum of the values of the pre-merger firms. (If synergy exists, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, hence, synergy is often described as "2 + 2 = 5.") A synergistic merger creates value, which must be allocated between the shareholders of the acquiring and the acquired firms. Synergy can arise from many sources, the most prominent being (1) operating economies of scale in management, production, marketing, or distribution; (2) financial economies, which could include higher debt capacity, lower transactions costs, or better coverage by securities' analysts which can lead to higher demand for the combined company's stock, and hence to higher stock prices; (3) differential managerial efficiency, which implies that a new management can increase the value of the firm's operating assets; and (4) increased market...

While there are other companies working on space travel, there are no other companies with the goals of commercialized space travel. The way this company is approaching such a concept is through their unique approach to research and development and their reusable rocket system. The technologies used in the company along with the flat organizational structure strengthen the flow of innovative ideas. Additionally, the company uses strong competitive prices.
